Six months ago, I started working on ventriloquism. I remember reading the comments and being semi-discouraged. At the time I couldn't do the "B" sound. I've been able to do it for months now. Keep working! It is possible! Give yourself some time, and keep practicing! You can do it. Thanks, Jeff for the tutorials. You helped me start out with ventriloquism! Hope to thank you in person some day. Good luck, everyone! You can totally do it.
@@novaisme1633 Sorry for the really late reply. Hopefully you've figured it out by now. I will attempt to explain it as best as I can. I was talking with a professional ventriloquist and telling him how I got the "b" sound finally and he said, "Oh yeah, I remember when I finally could feel what making that sound was like." So it's weird, unnatural, and hard to explain. I'll try my best. Think about what's happening with your mouth when you make the "b" sound normally moving your lips. It's essentially built up pressure in your mouth from closing it, and then saying the "ee" sound. So what you have to do is close the air off from inside your mouth rather than outside your mouth. To do that, make a "bottom lip" with your tongue. Curl up your tongue behind your teeth as if it was your bottom lip, and the roof of your mouth was your upper lip. Then, you can simulate the build up of pressure in your mouth without using your lips. Then, you almost flick the tip of your tongue down, releasing the pressure and making the "ee" sound. I honestly don't know how I came to be able to do it. I sat in front of a mirror like an idiot for 15 minutes a day talking to myself, and it finally clicked. Slowly. Each piece, "F" "B" "W", all of them. Some easier than others. Final thing. In my talk with the professional ventriloquist, he told me his difficulty in making one of the sounds. I found that sound to be one of the easier ones for me to learn, but I study Japanese and I found it similar to the Japanese sound "ra" ら. So, people have different experiences in it, and I am still a very early beginner in terms of my ability. I just want to encourage everyone, because I remember thinking how blasted impossible this whole thing felt, and then--all of a sudden--I could do it. Hope it helps. Sorry if it didn't. It's easier to do than it is to describe.

I have always found ventriloquism fascinating, partly because as a kid I used to sing quietly to myself on the school bus without moving my lips and there were always a few letters that never quite sounded right. Great video! Thank you for the information.
Jeff, thank you for the lesson. I don't see me ever being as good as you or getting into the profession. However, I always enjoy trying new things and having fun.
Well, it does take a long time with a lot of practice. Don't think Jeff didn't practice for a long time as a kid. He got better and better as he got older. It's the same with anything. And you can just do vent for fun. Not every vent wants to get up on stage and perform for others-they do it as a hobby. Or they do it in their profession, like a teacher sometimes may use vent figures for lessons.
I've been practicing a few minutes at a time for a couple days now. I'm able to get "basketball" to sound right, still working on "boy" and "bought". Don't get discouraged if you don't get it right away. As Jeff says, it's all about practice.
This was a great lesson. I am secretly working on my ventriloquism skills and hope to entertain my grandchildren soon. I have my ventriloquist character now and now I need to train him how to speak.
i kind of also use the v sound but that's because i know the v sound so when you know the v or w sound use it? i dunno i don't think that was helpful but i'm posting it anyway
Ok, I just came out of my bathroom, after standing in front of the mirror and doing this for about an hour. My daughter looks at me oddly and says " Is something wrong, Who were you talking to?"
What is so interesting to me is how to throw your voice. I once met Sherri Lewis and Lambchop, and she could make it sound like her voice was behind you. It amazed me as a youngster. Now I look and act like Walter. Another reason why you are so successful s that you are a great comedian. Some people are just naturally funny. You have such a talent for making people laugh. I lost it when Achmed got his legs duct taped down. It's amazing how you can take something that isn't planned and make it so funny. I wish I could see you live, or even go flying with you, but I just am not able to. Thank you so much for the joy you bring. Smiles.

I keep hearing myself pronouncing a strong « D », it doesn’t sound like a « B » at all. So difficult :(
It has to take time. Remember to think B while say D. Try saying other words with b substituting D in them.
Say it lightly so it sounds like a b
