Dude, I love your enthusiasm for these badass fish, im with you, they are legit! I managed to get one on a figure eight the other day from my kayak! I really don't understand why ppl hate them, they fight better than any bass out there! Any day I get even one doggie in the yak is a winning day in my book!
Chetek Wisconsin in the 715 has a lot of them, at least when I lived there. As I a kid I'd wade below the dam in the winter and catch them by hand in the grass.
I sit on the end of a pier starting about 2 hours before sunset and bait a hook with hard salami. I always catch a few along with a couple catfish I keep when I'm in the mood for beer batter fish and hush puppies. They hit hard so I sit on the rod. 5 feet of water and its toe to toe action with lots of splashing and drag pulling when I get a nice one. Total blast to catch. Thanks for the video.
I love bowfin, I used to catch them in a spillway by my house on cutbait. They just don’t give up. Haven’t caught one in 15 years or so. I’m hooked on 24”+ brown trout now. That’s all I hunt. Great video Robbie, hope to see Lee soon in a video
Jordon Pratt. I have caught some giant brown's and rainbow's in the Great Lake's. But I recently moved to SW Wisconsin and have started fishing all the Class 1trout stream's. This year i have caught 15 brown's over 22in with my biggest being 24.75in and I lost one twice that is right around 30in and I am also on a giant quest this year. Hope you get a giant. Good luck.
They are really prevalent in Green Bay, especially the east shore where its marshy. And all the tributaries that flow into that side. I grow tired of all the Yuppies crowding the walleye and musky here that I started fishing for anything else native that others dont. Bowfin, whitefish and Burbot have been a fun challenge figuring out during the summer.
Thanks Robbie: I watch and wish I was in the boat with you. Serious fishing with a fun side. Beautiful scenery and sunsets. Good for a world weary soul. Stay safe. God Bless!
lamprey actually leave pretty recognizable and relatively clean marks, THAT looked like someone glued some raw beef to its side lol! i would say it looks like bites, but most fish don’t have red meat. i think that’s some kind of crazy lesion, or infection, or something.
You also don’t set the hook with a circle hook. Circle hooks are designed to work there way in to the corner of the fishes mouth. Next time just reeldown to him and start reeling.
Robbie you guys seriously need to try powerpro maxcuatro, it’s not even comparable how much better it is than super slick. I know you guys gotta deal with shimano so it won’t cost much to try it on one of your rods, it’s the best braid on the market by so much. I’ve got it on 15 different setups of mine.
2 weeks ago on cutbait(bluegill head) I landed a 31in dogfish on the Mississippi and saw a few that were bigger. I know my spot has a new record, but even if I do catch one ill just take a picture and let it go. Hope you get your record this year..
Currently stationed in Texas and I really wish I could come back to Wisconsin to fish. Can’t because of the virus, all I want to do is catch some fish lol
I’ve never targeted bowfin, but I’ve caught a handful while targeting catfish and bass. They all put up a hell of a fight too. This video has inspired me to target them during my mid summer slump.
Yooo 715 area!? Thats me! Never new we had any. Ive caught some way up north but not in my area code. If you want some fun black river musky and sturgeon spots let me know bud
You have a ton of recording devices on the boat. Curious what all do you use, how do you set them up, do you use huge memory cards, batteries, etc? How long does it take you to edit a video with all that footage?
For poppers you should run a 15 or 20lb fluorocarbon leader, it won't sink and mess with action like wire but will you give youa good vit more tooth resistance than braid, i use a 12lb leader for chain pickerel, it isn't bite proof but its better than 20lb braid, and 20lb will do better than 50, could also try a heavier braid 65-80 good luck though with the monster hunt!
Dude I’ve been fishing for bowfin for 3 straight years and have caught nothing if you could tell me some good spots or tips it would be greatly appreciated
Cool vid Robbie. That was a fatty. I used to catch lots of bowfin when I lived in Virginia. Now I'm in N.Y. and I know lake Ontario has em. I'll have to try targeting them during the heat of summer
To me bowfin fishing is way better than bass fishing especially when you're catching record fish I went not to long ago bowfin fishing for the first time and I had the time of my life I was catching monsters any were from 10 to 12 pounds I caught more than everybody that went put together I caught so many I quit fishing and that alone should tell you something I never quit I did that day they wore me out.....
Nice fat dogfish. Next time don't set the hook when using a circle hook. Never lost one except to a snag since I started using circle hooks over twenty years ago. And don't use Mustad, use Gamakatsu.
Lympho Sarcoma i guess, we had alot of that in sweden on our pikes a few years ago.
Bowfin are largely an unexploited excellent quarry...Fine outing...thank you for sharing...
Love bowfin, it’s so spooky seeing one in the water with his fin waving
Noooo robbie. Don't swing with the circle hook! 😂. Nice vid!
I was screaming that when I saw him wind up to set haha. Ripped the circle hook right out of his mouth, I'm sure!
These boys are 100% right! with a circle hook you have to reel down to set the hook not bass swing set!
I was like noooooo don't set that hooo.... awe you set the hook 🤣

Hope to see some more dogfish vids! My grandfather always told me to try a bluegill for them.
Does anyone possibly know what the intro song is called?
I love the intro to the bowfin videos
You guys are awesome.... I’ve caught all of my dogfish fishing for muskies
They are really prevalent in Green Bay, especially the east shore where its marshy. And all the tributaries that flow into that side. I grow tired of all the Yuppies crowding the walleye and musky here that I started fishing for anything else native that others dont. Hey Robbie, they’re native to southern Ontario. Since the water temp is so high headed out Monday to hunt some dogfish. Musky is shut down here too.
Nice dogfish and great video Robbie.
Id suspect thoes wounds are from lamprey ?
Best drone shots I've seen from you! Bluegill trick was sweet
I love your videos you should do more pike fishing thought!!!
KVD Splash popper, got a 6.5# bowfin or dog on it a few weeks ago.
THATS the type of hype we all like to hear!!
I got a 26" Dog in Lemont illinois last month. Biggest one I ever caught. Smelled bad.
DesPlaines? The river by me is supposed to hold a small population, but I haven't been lucky enough to hook up with one yet. Congrats!
Green Lake up in your neighborhood has a good dog population
So are you done fishing with Lee because I sure miss seeing you in the boat fishing
We just fished together the last few days!
Bowfin are my favorite kind of ish! Good job dude! I've yet to catch one this year
My record dog fish was 36” 16lbs
Hey for dogfish I would use a back and orange spinnerbait they work great
My pb bowfin is 10 lbs which is close to my states record, not quite there but it was still a blast.
Where abouts in the 715?
Those marks on the fish are probably from lamprey. Norther Wisconsin has lots of them.
lamprey actually leave pretty recognizable and relatively clean marks, THAT looked like someone glued some raw beef to its side lol! i would say it looks like bites, but most fish don’t have red meat. i think that’s some kind of crazy lesion, or infection, or something.
Great video! Do you make your own music or have a source that you get songs from? I like the background music.
How bad are the "skitos"?
Where’s about in the 715 are you? I know of a lake with some dog fish out that way
great video Robbie keep up the great effort
Awesome video 👍 Becuase of the hot weather will we see any night time musky hunts?
Good work boys

Ahnapee river is pack full of them

you are such a beast
Currently stationed in Texas and I really wish I could come back to Wisconsin to fish. Can’t because of the virus, all I want to do is catch some fish lol
Jakobe Johnson: Thank you for your service and keeping us free! Be safe. Come home soon. God Bless!
lots of big bass in Texas
More dogfish videos please! Now I want to go catch one
Most of the bowfin I've caught in NY have been on a jig/ned rig. Few on topwater though. Good vid dude
Buddy cought one on the WI river 20yrs ago, 42 inches
Do u have any lake vermillion Muskie fishing tips btw love ur vids
Call living legends guide service. AJ is a beast.
need to develop a bluegill quick strike for walking the dog
I've never caught a bowfin. Great video Robbie.
love the dog vids. How far are you from hayward robbie?
Do you and Lee still film together?
I’ve never targeted bowfin, but I’ve caught a handful while targeting catfish and bass. They all put up a hell of a fight too. This video has inspired me to target them during my mid summer slump.
Yooo 715 area!? Thats me! Never new we had any. Ive caught some way up north but not in my area code. If you want some fun black river musky and sturgeon spots let me know bud
Looks like maybe a lamprey but not sure
Awesome video! What are you running for rod and line with your Curado DC?
7'7" Heavy Curado with 50lb Super Slick V2.
You and your wicked wayyysss!!!!
Y’all wanna catch some massive bowfin come down here in the central Florida there’s so many here it’s ridiculous
What’s the water temp up there Robbie?
water temps in western MN are in the low 80s right now
Bro, if the bluegill dies cut it in half to get the scent in the water. Bowfin are like catfish and seem to scent food very well.
Where the heck is Lee ?
Cool vid, where is Lee?
Damn man that was something seriously wrong with it because it was bleeding pretty bad out of the wound it's gonna be a leech/parasite magnet :(
You have a ton of recording devices on the boat. Curious what all do you use, how do you set them up, do you use huge memory cards, batteries, etc? How long does it take you to edit a video with all that footage?
Love the bowfin vids
I caught a 30 inch monster bowfin on the lake x mini bastard last night!
Where’s lee
robbie moved 5 hours away to a cabin to live with his new wife.
Rob Grubb I believe I read a comment that we’re getting together this week though. Hopefully they’ll film a few videos then.
Gosh your videos are awesome!
For a second I thought you were chasing Coelacanths! 😆🤣
It didn’t get a stimulus check 😪
I live around that area and if you want a big doggy throw shrimp
If you make it over to Central Minnesota shoot me a DM. You're the only person I've ever seen that gets as excited as I do over dogs
Woof-Woof Good Dog! Too bad about the lesions but it seems healthy otherwise
Maybe try some shiner or chubs. Split shot and a hook. Or leaches I have caught a lot on them. Seems like if it’s stinkier bait seems to work
That looks like a cancer, I saw something similar on a small pike in Minneapolis. I never figured out the exact disease, but it is probably fatal...
Maby a Sealamprey did that to the chunky dog
Dude I’ve been fishing for bowfin for 3 straight years and have caught nothing if you could tell me some good spots or tips it would be greatly appreciated
where do you live
When Robbie nets the first fish.. never heard him like that 😂 nice fish!
why cant you musky fish?
TheDruxlol water temps are too hot to catch Muskies.
Use cut bait, they take it down way faster
Why not weigh that monster?
Didn't have scale with, was in Lee's box
Cool vid Robbie. That was a fatty. I used to catch lots of bowfin when I lived in Virginia. Now I'm in N.Y. and I know lake Ontario has em. I'll have to try targeting them during the heat of summer
Who is lee I get confused because people say it’s your dad and some people say it’s not???
He definitely isn't his dad because his dad has been on a few videos. Lee and Robbie make musky baits together.
Did anyone else see that dragonfly on his hand at 13:45
You set the hook like a bass guy, but you were using a circle hook. Next time you’ll get em
Next vid should be titled searchin the bogs 4 dogs 🤣🤣🤣
92 degree musky fishing is no go even if i troll. going to have to wait a month it looks like.
You sounded like bubbles from trailer park boys.
DOGFISH!!!!!!!!!!
Doooooooooooooooogggggggggggssssss!
Switch to a jitterbug.
My biggest dog fish is 10 pounds
Drink eveytime he says dog, dogfish, dogs, doggy’s, doggos.... yea you get what I mean lol
Try night time for dogs
To much fun!
As a young boy we would catch bluegill, stomp on them, get them all mangled and treble hook them. Would catch Dogfish AKA Bowfin all day long.
Awesome
Pike are real disappointed that snakehead beat them on Robbies list
My biggest fish is a 8 pound bowfin😂
What is sad is some people throw these on the bank because they think they are snakehead
No doubt
To me bowfin fishing is way better than bass fishing especially when you're catching record fish I went not to long ago bowfin fishing for the first time and I had the time of my life I was catching monsters any were from 10 to 12 pounds I caught more than everybody that went put together I caught so many I quit fishing and that alone should tell you something I never quit I did that day they wore me out.....
👍
Nice fat dogfish. Next time don't set the hook when using a circle hook. Never lost one except to a snag since I started using circle hooks over twenty years ago. And don't use Mustad, use Gamakatsu.
Robbie brain farted
You seriously need better line cutters😂😂😂😂
