Grats to V and the team. I have to imagine every fighter going in there just wants all of the hard work they've put in behind the scenes to show through their performance. V did exactly that, there was no way to explain the fighter we were seeing other than a tremendous amount of work having taken place during her time away. I try to stay neutral with fighters but seeing V perform the way she did made me very happy for you two, all the best.

Pereira's whole gameplan was to take the fight to the later rounds, slow down Adesanya with legkicks, bodyshots and checks. Pereira knew going out headhunting from the getgo is not going to work. But when Adesanya's movement is compromised, and he's against the cage, then it was the time for Pereira to go for the kill.

@@hauntyoo yeah and no. I mean loads of people have had that plan against Izzy. Only constant is that those two men you mentioned both beat Izzy and are the same height. They at least weren’t on the wrong end of a 4+ reach disadvantage. Izzy’s defence is actually really sloppy from a fundamental POV. But it works perfectly against 99% of people he faces. It also forces them to eat 2 or 3 shots before they even get in range. Against someone who can respond immediately like Jan or Alex, Izzy gets scored on and looks diminutive.

I think Izzy really has to go in for the kill, he has nothing to lose, if Izzy wants to win he needs to be the one constantly pressuring Alex and maybe even take him to the ground and try to submit him. In the previous fights the one who was pressuring is the one winning the fight. You can see in their MMA fight that when Izzy was pressuring Alex he was winning until the last round where Alex was the one pressuring.
Alex has walk-through izzy s punches...izzy can't do the same...that's where the power factor comes into play
Izzy nearly finished him at the end of round 1. He can finish him for sure with the right game plan

I think the biggest mistake adesanya made was not stopping him in the earlier rounds when he was controlling him. Should have been able to submit him it was there.
Izzy will never be able to sub glovers training partner. He should look at finishing the fight striking instead of point fighting though
Izzy decided to become a boring decision machine, he's not willing to finish anyone.

Absolutely, izzy spend his entire mma career dwarfing, towering, and over reaching his opponents, but he couldn't do it in this one, that made him so uncomfortable.

Congrats to V on the win. Been a fan of hers ever since i saw an MMA Watch spotlight video on her some years ago. So its great to see her back and really tapping into her potential. And congrats and well done to you Dan and the whole team and anyone involved.
As for this fight, i figure Izzy may need to grapple him for real for real. Trying to out point Pireira has worked but been too risky every single time. Amd idk if Izzy has the power to drop him cold. I could see more likeliness of a win for Izzy with a TKO, a sub even, or dominant grappling.

I feel like all I hear people say about this fight is how much better Izzy is then Alex and that Alex just has too much power and too big. It’s crazy. How Izzy has to be perfect but Alex can do whatever. Izzy almost one shot Alex with one combo at the end of the first and Alex had to get up after one minute and come back with technique and solid striking. Izzy knocked out Brunson,Whittaker, and Costa. People don’t give Alex nearly enough credit for his skill IMO

Great breakdown. I wonder, if Izzy needs to be perfect for 25 minutes because of the power of Pereira, could his best bet be a complete surprise - aim to take him out in the first round? Kill or be killed. Izzy has actually had some great success with right overhands and crosses in both kickboxing and MMA against Pereira, and he nearly finished him at the end of the first round last time.

I think alot of people overlook the fact that Izzy had Pereira rocked in 2 of their fights, the only thing that saved Pereira was the bell both times. Izzy has the power to put him away

10:21 yes this. Everyone talks about how big Alex is. You have to imagine he’s been focused fully with glover now retired on grappling. Can you imagine if he gets dominant position with time left in a round? That’s terrifying. How much technical defense can be accrued as it relates to grappling in 6 months? Enough to mitigate the power of Alex? I’m not so sure.
But Izzy is not slouch in the punching department. Dan how much does it effect Alex getting rocked after the bell in round 1? Does he carry that into the fight you think to a point it’s noteworthy?

I love this next fight between them. The differences in skillsets, their size, their attributes, and of course the storyline of it all. I cannot wait for it and really hope Izzy can get it done.
He clearly looks like the overall better more complete MMA fighter imho, but he is 0-3 against him overall lol. Just so many 'nearly won until he didn't' moments against this nemesis of his.
One interesting thing I didn't hear you mention was Pereira's durability and recovery. He was nearly out at the end of the second round, and continued to get clipped by some good shots by Izzy, throughout the fight, but never went away. He has a history of this in his other fights too; of being able to absorb damage, sometimes getting rocked, but managing to recover and then find a way to just lights-out his opponent. I think Peirera's leg kicks and leg kick checks were integral in his previous victory as well, whoever wins the leg kick battle may win the fight again.
We have a really scary unique and fascinating fighter in middleweight Peirera. And we should enjoy it while it lasts, he will almost definitely go up in weight class at some point.
Dan- very glad you noticed how good Pereira’s takedown was AND that DC made fun of it.
If anyone else - especially Izzy - had landed that takedown, DC would have been raving about “running the pipe” and “turning the corner”/“changing the angle”.

Alex is going to have a Francis type turnaround and show some serious ground game. Texeira is a great strategist and Alex seems very disciplined enough to follow a game plan.

When I see Pereira brought Yousri Belgaroui for this camp I can tell he is taking this very seriously. And now he has Glover focusing on helping him. That first fight he didn't finish before because of the punches from first round. that ate his pace and confidence for a while. Glover said he watched that punch hundreds of time. If Adesanya does not figure something very clever blending wresting and running away , he will be ko'd right early. just one good punch anywhere will bring the 3x0 ghost immediately
He’s been sparring and training with Yousri for years now, they are friends and teammates. He doesn’t have to bring anyone in, he already beat him 3 times.

Its crazy how everyone just paints pereira like he is just a power puncher, he is a two divisions glory champion, he destroyed izzy body and legs, checked every single low kick, cutted the angles perfectly, but everyone just thinks the guy have a lucky to be strong.
