quick question, why do they start doing combos on their knockdowned-opponent before they get up? Because doesnt that mean the opponent will just wakeup?
There can be multiple reasons. 1) they might just throw one punch and then block, so if you wake up you'll be blocked and full combo punished. 2) certain attacks or combo strings on block leave you at frame advantage so if they get up blocking, now they have to deal with your next attack, and they're taking chip damage.
