I appreciate your process of identifying what art is and how to balance that with the practicalities of business and making a living. We have to be careful not to slip into the "sell-out" ideology. Just because something does appeal to a large audience and might not be that creator's "favorite topic" doesn't mean it's value-less from an art perspective or doesn't involve personal expression. At the same time, it seems like there is a line... I think Austin Kleon calls it "churn": pumping out stuff you don't like for the sake of an algorithm. This also seems related to a possibly highly privileged view of work: the idea that our work should "fulfill" us. Maybe we are putting our identity too much into what we do for work...? Two of my grandparents had blue color jobs, but they didn't define themselves by that. They defined themselves by what they did outside of work. Where do you think our perspectives on work fit into this discussion of art and/versus business? Kadabra. Also, I am so glad you added the "special prompt list" for 100 DoS. The 100 prompts are overwhelming and don't fit into my personal art goals. I'll be participating with the special prompts. I love how flexible DoS is!
This is a perspective I'm seriously thinking a lot about. On identity, work and my personal attachment towards it. Along with the ideas of business and art. I'm gonna reread this and we'll discuss this in one of the upcoming podcasts. Let's see of we can land on some solid principles. P.s a podcast I watched by Andrew huberman on Growth mindset is really helping me formulate thoughts on this. You can check that out as well!
kadabra..!! kesh.. I've been stuck in this level in between the beginner and moderate artist for over 5 years...please tell me what should i do inorder to get past this stage..?
Kadabra! been following you since 2018 and wanted to ask if you can explain how you kept steering through from all uncertainities in life (money, mental health, career, societal pressure etc) and kept moving ahead till you eventually had success as an artist and now can lead a stable life ?
Kadabra! if could talk about how to get better as a beginner(how to get better in fundamentals outside of practice) and then also marketing those skills as a beginner and these podcasts is one of my fav things among all the things you do man...really thought provoking
kadabra - where do I start - have been doodling and sketching on my own but want to have some directions. how do I start. is there any way I could speak to you.
Dear Kesh, if you don't know brian Eno, be sure to check it out . He's one of the most important , ambient musicians, full of really interesting insights about creative processes. As a fan of Austin Kleon, I really advice you to get to know more about the artists he presents... makes everything more interesting :)
Kadabara..... Is doing whatever comes to ur mind in terms of art good or is it just overworking yourself and then turning up discontinuing that thingy? While i do believe doing it is good tho
Good insight: don't ask us what we want to see; show us what you want us to see. If you're a real artist - which you clearly are - your vision will be more original that anything the 'Spirit of the Times' comes up with. It's an old truism, but worth repeating for all that: people don't know what they want until you show it to them.
#skeshbook.. HI lov ur vds. i would appreciate if you can share ur knowledge on how to create "manga", like how to draw and create story which satisfy what were trying to say. tq hope u respomd to this cmnt.🤞
