Just finished (and posted) an African wildlife video with vlogging and everything in it with the S5, essentially flawless for the job, in some very tough conditions too. Completely agree with your choice.
In terms of build quality the S5 is exceptional whereas the R6 really let me down in very critical work in Fiji during their summer heat. The R6 lcd display in very cold temperatures just like my 5D mk IV goes very dullish. I’m surprised how far behind Canon has fallen behind other players. Kinda sad as I have invested a lot in Canon glass (EF) lenses which are way behind in every aspect to like offerings from Sigma.
It’s a shame isn’t it. I love Canon. They just need to step up the game a bit without over charging. That’s interesting. I’m looking into trying my first sigma lens. They’re good then? Thanks for watching and commenting 🤩🎥
Awesome! Great to see another UA-cam content creator going for the S5! I’ve had the S5 for a while and it is actually amazing, for all the reasons you mentioned + the possibility to shoot RAW (which is borderline incredible for such an affordable camera). Funnily enough, I use Sony cinema cameras for most of my higher end jobs (FX9, FX6 and FX3), and I do use my trusty A7C for a lot of my UA-cam content and anything where I don’t want to worry about autofocus… yet I’m very impressed with my S5’s autofocus performances, and I got to a point where I can really trust it quite a lot. I’ve actually shot the talking head portion of a couple of my upcoming YT videos with it and it’s mostly very good. Tbh, the S5 got very little love from the day it was launched, probably partly due to a lot of us self filming content creators deeming it’s autofocus borderline unusable at launch (and it was indeed a lot worse before firmware updates), but it is generally much better now to the point that it is totally usable. However, if you look at this camera from a filmmakers perspective, this camera offers so much that it’s pretty complicated to dismiss it. I’m most certainly still gonna hold on to one Sony hybrid body (because… UA-cam), but man… the S5 is defo my camera of choice for anything where I’m not required to work with those (lovely) Sony cinema cameras.
Thanks Chris. I totally agree with everything you’ve said there. Ah I love the FX-6. My second fav camera after the S5 😂 or first because of the built in auto ND etc. what great features! Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻🎥🤩

Panasonic has really nice colors and way more dynamic range for sure! Since I rely on autofocus a lot, since I often record myself, the R6 is my weapon of choice. I am so glad we got clog3 and dual card video recording.
Had s5 but got rid of it only because of autofocus. At the moment using R6 and r5. Very happy with both. S5 and R6 both have their advantages and disadvantages, it all comes to what your priorities are. For me autofocus come first, especially animals eye detect.
I never knew lumix had focus problems and thought I needed to learn how to use it better. Then I realized it wasn't me and I practically mastered using it on the GX85
Again - I love your british English :) and of course, the content of your videos is of very high quality! Thank you for the comparison, I´ve been using my R6 for 20 months (photos and videos) and I am considering to buy S5 just for shooting videos. Thumbs up Sam, as always. Regards from Czech Republic ;)
The S5 is a really good choice. But you can get more dynamic range in the R6 if you shoot in clog3 in cinema gamut profile vs clog in 709. That’s a much flatter log, not as much contrast and saturation. Either way you gotta use the tools that are better for you and make your work easier. Great video!
Great video! I’ve been searching for a new body that I can expand my videography skills on (previously a Nikon shooter) and your videos have helped so much! Proud new S5 owner with the incredible Black Friday deals!
I’ve just bought a brand new S5 for £670. A local camera shop had an extra £200 off last weekend, over and above the Panasonic offer. So it was an S5 body, 20-60 and the 50 f1.8 for £1299. Just incredible value.
As a Canon R6 owner I absolutely love it Everything works the ONLY issue is the overheating which for past year has not happened to me but it’s a concern nevertheless BUT I always had a crush on the S5 especially at the current price point it’s just the autofocus is a major no no for someone that 100% relies on it. At some point I will own one just for the RAW capability tho
Hi. R6 is amazing. So reliable. I know what you mean. Good to have that open mind though and I’m sure they’ll fix it in the future 💪🏻 thanks for watching
An excellent comparison here Sam. I'm an EVA1/S5 owner and the combination of the two of them together is just fantastic. I went back and watched your S5 autofocus tips which made a huge amount of difference on a recent shoot, so thanks for all the S5 content recently 🙂
Thanks James. Ah I’m pleased those tips helped. I have another video coming out this week about setting up the S5 so I’ll be showing you how I use the camera etc. hopefully that gives some more ideas (IF you need). Thanks for watching James 🎥🙏🏻
There is no way I'm giving up the R6...I just got it lol...and coming from an APS-C canon camera that didn't have C log but instead had a third party Clog/Cinestyle, so the slightly more saturated Clog is just what I am use to at this point. Sony and Panasonics Logs are TOOO flat for me.
Correction tho at 5:34 the Lumix S5 actually records up to 180fps in 1080p, much slower than the R6 but very solid review mate. I've owned the Canon EOS R and I now have the Lumix S5 it was a big upgrade, especially for the price. The only downside is the lens availability for L-mount, but I just bought an adapter and now I'm good to go. The Lumix is a VERY SOLID and professional camera in my eyes both for stills and professional videos.
@@createpreneur806 For Photos and videos, the Lumix S5 quality is way better than the EOS R. The Auto focus on the EOS R is slightly better than the S5 with some lenses but with Lumix Native lenses on the S5 I don't see much of a difference. I mostly use manual focus though so my usecase might be different from someone else's.
Thanks for the comparison! The s5 is really the dark horse of the bunch. I keep eyeing it and will def follow your videos. Maybe when I have enough budget I’ll make the switch haha
Yeh you’re so right Jonathan! It really is underrated! What are you using at the mo? Yes and if you have any questions just let me know. Plenty more on the way so stay tuned. Thank YOU for watching 🤩🙏🏻🎥
I think R6 is an amazing camera for a hybrid shooter who is doing short-form social media and web content. Full frame 4K 60p, skin tones, clog3, stabilization, easy-to-use menu, a wide selection of lenses, ergonomics make it the absolute perfect camera for me. I have sooo many great memories with it 😄 I’m getting an S5 now as an addition to my kit for long form content, commercial and narrative work. Excited to see how it’ll perform.
Really love your videos! I bought the s5 with the 35mm 1.2 F-lens and it's so great I can't really say anything bad except for some autofocus problems when filming my dogs but I'm learning a lot by watching people like you and it's not a big problem to be honest. I'm even learning manual focus and seeing a lot of creative space using that instead but it's a learning curve for sure. No problems with AF photographing though at all! Much love from Sweden!
What a great video that I'm so glad I found! I've always been well behind the curve in tech (still regularly use a 15 year old Canon 1D III for stills on occasion), but wanted something more current that is hybrid, and am very close to going with the Lunix line now, esp since prices are so reasonable on the S5 and S1 bodies with the introduction of the S5 II. I will probably end up starting with either the S5 or S1 and then adding the S5 II, thanks for your help in making my decision!
Very good review. I knew seeing your previous videos the S5 would win! However, the Panasonic S5 has a 4K 50/60p crop. I have the S1 and R6 and the Panasonic is a country mile more video centric than the R6.. but the S1 stays in my bag 90% of the time except when I need 2 cameras for interviews. For the work I do the AF on the R6 is necessary. The S1 AF and 50p crop are the only things that bother me.
Hi Sam. Great, great video. Again! S5 beats R6 Wow! But that are exactly my findings. S5 even beats Sony A7IV in a lot of boxes. But NOT in AF, not the Canon and not the Sony. but you can live with it. But the S5 can shoot not only up to 120, but up to 180 frames/second to get a beautiful and impressive slowmo. And you can load up to 10 custom-functions to the C3-dial.
I was considering getting an R6. The S5 however does have the L-mount alliance (Lumix, Sigma and Leica) giving a large range of lenses including Leica M-mount (with an adapter), anamorphic lens options and a whole lot more. Hmmm.
Welcome to S5! - two things I noticed. For face tracking, u need to click and lock in for it to track faster / Imo the lock mode for stabilization is not for moving the camera but for being stationary. Anyways I enjoy channel a lot mate
please tell me which camera to buy for shooting video for UA-cam statically at home and what lens? I wish there was a high-quality picture and a well-blurred background, thank you
@@SamHolland ok thanks. I was wondering on the speed used in this video because the autofocus seems very slow compared to mine but we probably have different settings
Not fair video in some aspects 😆 he didn’t use ibis + lens stabilization in r6 for that extra stabilization, also not clog 3, also he said about overheating but not mentioned that if use a ninja v there is no overheating, and nothing about crop in 4K 😀🔨
We all know the IBIS wobble doesn’t look great. You don’t get that much extra dynamic range from C-log 3 (yes it is better) and I wanted to compare the cameras as they are without an external recorder for help. I love Canon. I’m pointing out the things I find important. Thanks for watching 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Hello great channel , +1 subscriber like 163 , I think I going to buy the LUMIX S5 . great job , I waiting the next video to explain about the autofocus .
I like to have the option of handholding the camera, panning slowly and getting smooth 4K video. The only cameras I've been able to do that with are Lumix. I have the GH5, just ordered the S5 yesterday.
Hi Sam, What a great video - thanks for the in depth comparison. I ended up buying the Lumix s5 and more than happy with:-) I just realized that everytime the camera is on, it makes a little sound like there's a harddisk inside running. Have you also noticed this or is it normal?
You got a subscribe from me. I have two gh5s’ and am looking to switch to another dual camera set-up and you answered every question I had. In my shoots I don’t use heavy Auto-Focus so this is a great option for what I need. Colors are great and the highlight roll off amazing. Great vid!! Keep it up.
This is exactly the video I was looking for! I’ve been going back and forth between these two powerhouses, and while the S5 is amazing especially for the price, I think I will be going with the R6 because of autofocus! Fits my needs more as a more photocentric hybrid shooter who likes to sneak in some videos here and there. Cheers, just subscribed 👍🏼
Honestly it makes sense for what you do the lumix is perfect! The lighter lenses are almost a win for me, but auto focus is super crucial for me. Also I have a bad experience with the lumix g7 the auto focus was terrible lol
Hi, I was wondering if you had considered the S1 as well, since you seem to do filming while walking quite frequently and the S1 does have much better stabilization.
I used to own the GH5 and GH5S and I've fully switched over to Canon R5 and R6, the AF and video features are just amazing, I shoot press and news events and the colors look great straight out of the camera without any need for heavy grading that the Panasonics so often needs. In terms of sheer quality you cant beat RF glass as well- Canon just makes fantastic lenses. No issues with overheating as I use an external recorder - you should have added that into your video to at least let folks watching know there's a proper workaround this issue.
@@Strategicxx you can get an Ninja V much cheaper these days. Anyway I was already using the Ninja when I was filming with my GH5s so it was a zero added cost for me. Just wanted to highlight to people that there is a proper workaround for the overheating issue, which personally I myself never experienced even when I was recording longform content without an external monitor so yeah just sharing my experience
@@Darth-TBAG I understand but to get the lost use out of the R5 atomos+ is necessary plus all the items needed to Mount, provide power, ssd etc. it’s a sizable cost.
@@Strategicxx you can try the R6 with the latest firmware, personally I never experienced overheating and I live in a relatively hot and humid climate with temperatures ranging around 30-36 degrees Celsius
S5 is great. I’ve owned the Canon RP, R & R6. But there’s just something about the quality of the pictures & video that come out of the S5 that just give it a different feel. I’m currently on the A7IV, but as I was looking at some S5 footage & pictures, I’m starting to regret buying the A7IV 🤦🏼♂️ By the way, don’t forget to tap on the tracking box around your subjects head on the screen to confirm. The AF will be locked on nicely!
Hey. All great cameras. And they all have something unique to offer from an image perspective. You’re right about the S5 image though. It just has that something I can’t put my finger on, but it’s what I’ve been looking for! The Sony a7IV is great though still from what I’ve seen! 💪🏻🎥 Thanks for watching
I waited for the a7iv for so long, and bought the s5 when it came out. Now I have both, and I like the s5 better, and it's only on the 20-60mm kit lense. Amazing.
Great video as usual Sam. I have an R6 (and a 5DC, R, BMP4KCC, & a6400) and just picked up an A74. I could get by with what I had. But while I love the Canon's colors, even on the 5DC, I do enough video that having two Sony's with no video time limit is worth having the other body. I really like the BMP4KCC, but damn I love dependable autofocus! Now I'm wondering if the 33MP for some activities might make me pick up the A74 more often than my R6 for stills. Eventually, I might dump all my lens adapters and move to one system, but for now, variety is the spice of photography.
sam holland i am a photographer and i am planning to buy a mirrorless whether S5 or Sony A7R3 .I heard that s5 is good at videography but not good in photography and auto focusing is slow . I am confused please reply
I think Lumix color looks better than canon, canon is also comparable but Bmpcc color also looks so good.. Just the color talks than specs..what do you think about Bmpcc ,canon, lumix colour science when doing least or almost no colour matching at all?? Which one do you like the most ??
Nice. No intentions on leaving Canon personally but great comparison. I will say, seems you were using CLog instead of CLog3? Tad unfair but overall see your points and they all make sense. Personally, I still prefer the canon even with all these examples. Maybe naivety and inexperience, but mostly because I'm also a photographer and the lowlight performance for the R6 is amazing for me as I tend to shoot in darker situations.
Thanks so much Sam - Ive been looking at these two cameras and the A74 - this video hands down has been the most helpful video Ive watched. Thanks god I didn't have to watch someone running around a field or the inevitable vlog test (who the f*@k vlogs nowdays). Just watched the GH6 Video from Josh Cameron - you two are the only guys doing real usage videos. TOP MARKS TO YOU BOTH.
Hey mark. I’m pleased this video helped you. 😂 not me! 😶😂 Ah yeh Josh is a legend! Ah thank you! 🙏🏻🤩🎥 glad I can help. If you have any questions let me know.
Only 2 problems with Lumix: (a) autofocus, (b) lens selection. Otherwise, I love my s5 to death. And after I bought my Sony a7iv, I still love the s5 more.
@@SamHolland I use the Sony a lot especially when shooting videos of my kids who run around a lot. But s5 in good lighting is just more beautiful, better color and more filmic in its footage. I bought the s5 after watching many youtubers’ footage. They say its footage rivals midrange cinema cameras, and after using it for over 1 year, I agree. There is something very lovely about the footage.
I don't do vlogging or video. I am more interested in photography, but l still chose the S5 over the R6. I love it, although it is damn heavy when l fit my 150-600 DgDn Sigma onto it.
Would you say the r6 is more better for noobs which only want to turn on the camera and make movies in the livingroom without any worries about the colour, grading or af?
@@SamHolland its up ready to watch won't be changing now would as it cost so much sure I won't regret it plus that 30FPS for photos is a game changer for me and the photos i do for the surf rescue and car meets etc .... Still love the look of the S5
Great video! Seeing this makes me happy I got the S5 as I was also contemplating the R6. So many features that seem so normal to me that the R6 doesn't have! Will have to point out that the S5 does shoot up to 180fps in 1080p. Also Boost IS doesn't work well when walking as it's meant to create stable, tripod like stabilisation.
Hey, I see some small line glitches in your video in the right side of the screen at 15.49, it's a bug when recording to Ninja V, the firmware 2.3 should get rid of that bug. Text from the 2.3 update "There were cases where line-like noise appeared on the external monitor connected over HDMI. This bug has been fixed." I Use and enjoy two S5 cameras myself, love V-log!
Panasonic Lumix all day! I don’t need autofocus and for video work you should be shooting manual anyways. Great video. I use the GH4 and GH5 currently but have been wanting to upgrade for a while and the S1H would be my first choice but it’s just too expensive for me right now so I think the S1 or S5 is what I’ll go with
I tried the S5 and didn’t like it. I have always been a Sony user owning 2 A7SIII’s but recently got the R5 because they fixed the overheating issue. I love that camera and think it’s better then my A7SIII on the image side. The dynamic range is not as good but feel like I am shooting with a cinema camera. The photography is out this world too.
👌🏻 it’s a nice camera. I also love the image that canon produces, besides the dynamic range. But the colours make up for it. Also the LCD screen image is the best in the game 🤩🎥
Nice review! Has there been any major firmware updates on the S5 since it came out? I’m mostly thinking about AF in video mode? Also, what lens (zoom) do you recommend for video? Thanks 😊👍🏻
Hi. Thank you 🙏🏻 yeh they updated the AF and it’s much better than before. They’re constantly updating things which is amazing for the users. 🎥 When it comes to lenses, it all depends on what shots you want. I guess the 20-60 is a good place to start. 🙏🏻
I did a S5 vS A7siii comparison video on the channel and you can see the low light tests there. OR check out my latest video about lenses and you’ll see the lowlight performance
The S5 is incredible value, especially with some of the deals around at the moment. I do disagree on the lens point as you can use EF glass too on the Canon, and that's a whole world of superb lens options. The big dealbreaker with the S5 wasn't mentioned though: 420 8-bit 50/60p. I just don't want to go back to that after enjoying 422 10-bit. I shoot a lot of wedding footage and 50p is my bread and butter.
Amazing option and great price. You can use 10bit 420 at 50/60fps but there’s still a crop. I know what you mean. It would be nice to have 10bit 422 full frame still 🙏🏻🎥
I messaged Canon about the clean HDMI output while recording internally. This is important to me because I do some work with rodeos where I send my feed to a big screen while recording. Canon responded with a claim that firmware cannot fix it because they say it is a hardware thing. I am not convinced though
@@SamHolland not quite. I also run it through a switcher so I record there. I love Canon too much but am disappointed in them for such a trivial thing they could have made better with very little effort. In fact it probably took more effort to restrict it than include it
I have a colour grading tutorial coming out tomorrow and you can see how natural the colours from the S5 can look. Hope this helps 🤩 I also did another video recently showing how you can get canon colours from the S5. ua-cam.com/video/WdcrWl18nag/v-deo.html
How is the S5 Autofocus for photography? I mainly shoot pics, and less video. That said I have been falling in love with the S5 (and A7mkIV) in regards to video. Same thing with the more modern sensor technology compared to canon. The S5 dynamic range and high ISO capabilities runs rings around the canon. But Canon's dual pixel AF is just amazing and I love canon's lenses and the great variety of them available. (Been shooting my whole life with Canon cams, but now want to upgrade to full frame) But if the S5 AF cant work properly... Please help me decide. 😆 And no, I can't afford an A7mkIV, otherwise it would be a no-brainer.
Which do you prefer, and why?

Exactly. You have to get what is most important to YOU. 💪🏻 thanks for watching 🤩🎥
I really wish the S5 had animal eye af instead of just placing a box around the subject.
I never knew lumix had focus problems and thought I needed to learn how to use it better. Then I realized it wasn't me and I practically mastered using it on the GX85
Man, This was an amazing video! Loved it:) subscribing
Thank you! 🤩🙏🏻🎥 hope you enjoy the channel.
Wow I was so close to going for the R6 and you’ve changed my mind in 16 minutes. Bravo 👏
Woah! 🤩 awesome. Both great cameras 🙏🏻🎥
Just bought the S5 20-60 kit for 1700 USD with change at a local sale in Malaysia. What an insane camera for the price!
Thank you Jan 🤩🙏🏻 you legend!
The R6 is an amazing camera. So is the S5. Very different but both very good 🤩🎥👌🏻
Sam love your channel. Wow I’m shocked you switched! I’m also a videographer with the R6. Love it. This video comparison was great.
Hey Ted. Thanks so much! 🙏🏻🤩 so pleased you’re enjoyed the videos. The R6 is an amazing camera! 🤩🎥
Thank you Lorenzo! Totally! 🤩🎥 I do really like the image from both. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Great video! I’ve been searching for a new body that I can expand my videography skills on (previously a Nikon shooter) and your videos have helped so much! Proud new S5 owner with the incredible Black Friday deals!
ive just bought my first DSLR and its the lumix S5. Thanks for the video. I'll roprt back with my findings being a complete newbee
Hey that’s exciting! I hope you enjoy it. Check this video out to help get you started - ua-cam.com/video/FwXEzWp-_ys/v-deo.html
I’ve just bought a brand new S5 for £670.
A local camera shop had an extra £200 off last weekend, over and above the Panasonic offer. So it was an S5 body, 20-60 and the 50 f1.8 for £1299. Just incredible value.
That’s amazing!!!! Such a great price for an amazing camera. I hope you enjoy it 🤩🙏🏻🎥 thanks for commenting
As a Canon R6 owner I absolutely love it
Everything works the ONLY issue is the overheating which for past year has not happened to me but it’s a concern nevertheless
BUT I always had a crush on the S5 especially at the current price point it’s just the autofocus is a major no no for someone that 100% relies on it.
Hey, I have the Eva too and look for b cam. I am thinking about S5 and S1H. How do you like the S5? Is it hard to match it with the Eva?
There is no way I'm giving up the R6...I just got it lol...and coming from an APS-C canon camera that didn't have C log but instead had a third party Clog/Cinestyle, so the slightly more saturated Clog is just what I am use to at this point. Sony and Panasonics Logs are TOOO flat for me.
C Log is great! I love it! I’m pleased you like the R6. It’s incredible! 🤩🎥🙏🏻
about the autofocus.. you have try to lock on the face to track? when you did it you have another 4 lines on track focus
@ChevaughnBeckford, how does the EOS R's image quality and autofocus compare with the S5's?
I have sooo many great memories with it 😄
I’m getting an S5 now as an addition to my kit for long form content, commercial and narrative work. Excited to see how it’ll perform.
R6 is an amazing camera!!! I too have great memories with it. Glad you’re giving the S5 a go. It’s a superb image and camera. Thanks for watching 🎥🙏🏻
Excellent content!!
Should I go with Sony A7C or Lumix S5??
S5 all day long. Much more professional camera 🙏🏻🤩🎥 thank you
Really love your videos!
Thanks David. I’m pleased the videos help and you’re enjoying your camera 🤩🎥
Thank you. The S1H is a great option cos that doesn’t have the crop at 50/60 does it? But then we’re talking more cost. Glad you like both 🤩🎥
@@SamHolland unfortunately every S series camera from Panasonic has the 50p/60p crop :/
@@SamHolland best one chose
It’s amazing! 🤩🎥 thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I was considering getting an R6. The S5 however does have the L-mount alliance (Lumix, Sigma and Leica) giving a large range of lenses including Leica M-mount (with an adapter), anamorphic lens options and a whole lot more. Hmmm.
GREAT CHOICE SAM! Good video!
Thank you Chad! 🙏🏻🎥
Welcome to S5! - two things I noticed. For face tracking, u need to click and lock in for it to track faster / Imo the lock mode for stabilization is not for moving the camera but for being stationary. Anyways I enjoy channel a lot mate
Thanks Paul! 🙏🏻 🎥
please tell me which camera to buy for shooting video for UA-cam statically at home and what lens? I wish there was a high-quality picture and a well-blurred background, thank you
Really great comparison! Hands down S5 is better for video. I own 2 R6s but only use them for photo. It’s definitely a stronger photography camera 📸
Thank you. Both great cameras in their own right. Thanks for watching 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Great video.
What were you settings for s5 autofocus speed and sensibility?
Hey thanks. I go through all my settings in this video ua-cam.com/video/FwXEzWp-_ys/v-deo.html
Hope it helps and thanks for watching 🤩🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland ok thanks.
I was wondering on the speed used in this video because the autofocus seems very slow compared to mine but we probably have different settings
Not fair you didn't use Clog3 on the R6 for dynamic range comparaison :P Haha great video man!
Cheers brother 🙏🏻🎥
Where is Sony A7iv? ;)
Hello great channel , +1 subscriber like 163 , I think I going to buy the LUMIX S5 . great job , I waiting the next video to explain about the autofocus .
Hi. Thank you so much! 🤩🙏🏻 the new video is out now so I have explained my settings in there. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching 🎥🙏🏻
I like to have the option of handholding the camera, panning slowly and getting smooth 4K video. The only cameras I've been able to do that with are Lumix. I have the GH5, just ordered the S5 yesterday.
Hi Sam,
What a great video - thanks for the in depth comparison. I ended up buying the Lumix s5 and more than happy with:-)
I just realized that everytime the camera is on, it makes a little sound like there's a harddisk inside running. Have you also noticed this or is it normal?
a question..do you using gimbal right? why i need ibis for stabilizer if i have a gimbal? So the function of ibis is only to replace monopod...
Hi. You don’t need to turn IS on if you’re using a gimbal or on a tripod. Only if you want to go handheld 🙏🏻 hope this helps. Thank you
I have both. The R6 for autofocus and S5 for longer recording sessions (cooking videos). I don't think I can keep only one 😀
Haha you’re right. It was a tough decision to lose the Canon 😢
You got a subscribe from me. I have two gh5s’ and am looking to switch to another dual camera set-up and you answered every question I had. In my shoots I don’t use heavy Auto-Focus so this is a great option for what I need. Colors are great and the highlight roll off amazing. Great vid!! Keep it up.
Hey. So pleased this video helped 🤩 I have a video on how to set up the S5 for when you get it. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥
Great review. Well appreciated 👏👏👏
Thank you! 🤩🙏🏻🎥
What's with the bright horizontal lines flashing in the last section of the video? (15m) is it the sensor or video rendering?
It’s my HDMI cable. It wasn’t plugged in properly
Honestly it makes sense for what you do the lumix is perfect! The lighter lenses are almost a win for me, but auto focus is super crucial for me. Also I have a bad experience with the lumix g7 the auto focus was terrible lol
Thanks man. Yeh that G7 wasn’t great for AF. I tried one a while back and wasn’t pleased at all. Was crazy! Thanks brother 🙏🏻🎥
Hi, I was wondering if you had considered the S1 as well, since you seem to do filming while walking quite frequently and the S1 does have much better stabilization.
Yeh I had but the price of the S5 is unbeatable. I also loved using the S1H too. 🤩 I love cameras 😂🎥 thanks for watching
I have both and I love them! I use my lumix for cinematic purposes since I can shoot 6k ProRes Raw and I use my canon for photography/ youtube
A proper yet albeit expensive work around. Imagine spending 4K on a camera that needs a 1k monitor to work.
I’m currently on the A7IV, but as I was looking at some S5 footage & pictures, I’m starting to regret buying the A7IV 🤦🏼♂️
By the way, don’t forget to tap on the tracking box around your subjects head on the screen to confirm.
Thanks for watching
I think it's the look of V-log, it does have a nice organic feel and highlight rolloff way out of it's price class lol
Totally! 💪🏻🎥🤩🎉
I waited for the a7iv for so long, and bought the s5 when it came out. Now I have both, and I like the s5 better, and it's only on the 20-60mm kit lense. Amazing.
@@CO8848_2 this 20 to 60mm is really amazing, so small and yet so good from edge to edge.
how are you plugging into the mains with the S5?
Hi. The USB cable it comes with can be plugged into the camera from the mains adapter 🎥
😂 yes! All cameras are so great. Thanks for watching and commenting! 🎥🙏🏻
Do you think Panasonic will shift to pdaf in the mark 2 version of S5?
So glad to own an S5. Hits way above its weight.
Woo! 🤩🎉🙏🏻🎥 such a great camera.
Was it shot on Lumix S5 entirely?
This video,? Yes!
sam holland i am a photographer and i am planning to buy a mirrorless whether S5 or Sony A7R3 .I heard that s5 is good at videography but not good in photography and auto focusing is slow .
Great review and thoughts, I didn't the same choice, sold the R6 and bought the S5, it is just a mind blowing camera for the price.
Oh nice! 🤩 yeh it’s amazing isn’t it. 🎥🙏🏻
Hey Arnold! There’s no doubt the Canon R6 is still a phenomenal camera. I still love it 🤩🙏🏻🎥 thanks for watching and also sharing your thoughts!

Only 2 problems with Lumix: (a) autofocus, (b) lens selection. Otherwise, I love my s5 to death. And after I bought my Sony a7iv, I still love the s5 more.
Oh you still went for the Sony as well in the end. What do you not like about the Sony that makes the S5 better?
@@SamHolland I use the Sony a lot especially when shooting videos of my kids who run around a lot. But s5 in good lighting is just more beautiful, better color and more filmic in its footage. I bought the s5 after watching many youtubers’ footage. They say its footage rivals midrange cinema cameras, and after using it for over 1 year, I agree. There is something very lovely about the footage.
Totally right there! 🤩🎥
Leica L mount is one of the only mounts I seen that can take Sony E mount lenses....... sooo.. lens selection.....
@@CO8848_2 hey! How does the S5 fare while shooting running kids ? I’m contemplating on an S5 and I have a child whom I would like to film :)

isnt the overheting solved with the c log 3?
Would you say the r6 is more better for noobs which only want to turn on the camera and make movies in the livingroom without any worries about the colour, grading or af?

3 minutes in and guessing it is the Lumix 😪 but will you like my R3 ... havevi made a mistake as I could buy 3 or 4 Lumixs for the price of the R3

why buy the r6 if the codec really hard to edit with an over heating issues
Great video! Seeing this makes me happy I got the S5 as I was also contemplating the R6. So many features that seem so normal to me that the R6 doesn't have! Will have to point out that the S5 does shoot up to 180fps in 1080p. Also Boost IS doesn't work well when walking as it's meant to create stable, tripod like stabilisation.
Thank you. Glad you like the S5 🎥
I have a Canon R6. I recently bought a Lumix S5.
Choose one. This is a very difficult problem. I am very worried. I will refer to this video.
Hope this helps 🙏🏻🤩🎥
Hey, I see some small line glitches in your video in the right side of the screen at 15.49, it's a bug when recording to Ninja V, the firmware 2.3 should get rid of that bug. Text from the 2.3 update "There were cases where line-like noise appeared on the external monitor connected over HDMI. This bug has been fixed." I Use and enjoy two S5 cameras myself, love V-log!
Thank you Roger. I swapped the cable out and it seems fine now but I’ll check for another update. Thanks again 🙏🏻🎥🤩
Any overheat for 6k?
Should I get the A7iv or the R6? Could get the R6 second hand for 1500 USD but the lenses are more expensive than on Sony.
the lumix just looks beautiful in all the side by side shots. one of the only easy decision in these comparison tests.
I love the S5

Yeh I know. Good isn’t it 🤩🎥
Nice review!
When it comes to lenses, it all depends on what shots you want. I guess the 20-60 is a good place to start. 🙏🏻

I did a S5 vS A7siii comparison video on the channel and you can see the low light tests there. OR check out my latest video about lenses and you’ll see the lowlight performance
having a gh5 and not really done anything with it yet. My dream is to make up the money with the gh5 and buy an s5 somehow :(
The S5 is incredible value, especially with some of the deals around at the moment.
It would be nice to have 10bit 422 full frame still 🙏🏻🎥
4K50/60p is 10bit 420. Still 10bit color so you have the flexibility and can use V-log
@@Aviciiz Only with the APS-C mode though. It's 1080p/60 FF or 4K/60 APS-C.

I messaged Canon about the clean HDMI output while recording internally. This is important to me because I do some work with rodeos where I send my feed to a big screen while recording. Canon responded with a claim that firmware cannot fix it because they say it is a hardware thing. I am not convinced though
Oh no! 😬 S5 it is then 😛🎥
@@SamHolland not quite. I also run it through a switcher so I record there. I love Canon too much but am disappointed in them for such a trivial thing they could have made better with very little effort. In fact it probably took more effort to restrict it than include it
I know what you mean. What about the R5c? 🎥
@@SamHolland that would be great if the budget supported it. I think it is slack of Canon to make the R support the clean output but not the R6

(Been shooting my whole life with Canon cams, but now want to upgrade to full frame)
But if the S5 AF cant work properly... Please help me decide. 😆 And no, I can't afford an A7mkIV, otherwise it would be a no-brainer.
on the S5 tap on the autofocus box and it locks on a little quicker onto your subject
As a photographer I couldn't justify the price of the R6/5 one or two + their stupidly priced RFs.
