      Trick is you throw down all them THICC Harbours (I can't stand not spelling it "Harbors") and just spam Fire Ships/Demo Ships and wreck everything they ever control.
      Harbours are also amazing for defense. They're 125 wood mini-castles. The trick is, you throw up LOADS of them. As in, at least 50 per Fishing Ship.

    • @TheHaighus
      @TheHaighus 6 років тому +15

      The wood-only cost combined with infinite fish traps means you can really spam harbours. I like to play them offensively too- if at least 50% of the available coastline doesn't have a harbour, I consider it vulnerable... :D

Three of them being that Teutonic Knights are now a bit faster, Mangudai get their original anti-seige bonus, and the Japanese get Treadmill Crane.

    I think you are missing the potential of an Anti-Goth Civ here.
    For one, the Battle Elephants have Trample and are both extremely thick and powerful in comparison to most units, and for the Malay, even without the armour/health bonuses, the cheapness makes them easier to pump out.
    Second, they have infinite food if there is any body of water, and almost every game, including Arabia and Black Forest, always has a pond or so, so a Malay player can always get an infinite amount of food even when wood is lacking.
    Third, they get near infinite Two-Handed Swordsmen, that has all of the upgrades even if they are not champions, and when against Goths where they still depend on Gold, Goth's also lack a single armour upgrade.
    Four, the Goth Infantry is their main go of being better than most Civs once they reach that point, yet Malay pretty much removes the threat of the three infantry: Huskarls the anti-archers, Halberdiers then anti-calvary, and Champions the bomb. Both the Huskarls and Champions cost gold, and the Malay can easily outspam them with infinite Two-Handed Swordsmen and Pirates that are cheaper than Champions by half and less population.
    Throw in some Battle Elephants, and the generic Goth player is eaten up. Not to mention Malay still have better defenses, monks, and archers in comparison to the Goths.

      i know sometimes both are good against each other, maybe because of a different situation or maps.

    The availability of Heresy might be reflecting about how the Malays are known to be strong with their religion/belief. According to Marmaduke Dodsworth in his research about Christianity and the Malays, The Malays are the hardest of all races to be converted, especially the Malays in the Malay peninsula.
    And even now, in Malaysia it is illegal for one of another religion to propagate among the Malays, and the Malays are specifically defined as Muslims in the Federal Constitution.
    It's a very interesting addition for them to add, very small detail yet for the Malays, they know about this.

The Elite Karambits have been triple nerfed (-1 pierce armour, which really sucks when trying to swarm castles or tcs, and -1 attack twice), and the Harbors were also nerfed (significantly slower fire rate). The fish traps were also originally free, and the age advancement was originally 100% faster. And all that was given as compensation was slightly cheaper shitty elephants with no bloodlines or armour and +1 attack for the non-elite Karambits.

      It is actually basically also what happened in the siege in Malacca. According to historians, the Portuguese' greatest ships were not able to defeat the Malaccan navy. And how they defeated us was by finding a traitor in the Malaccan sultanate and destroy it from the inside. As what the old Malay people always say, a grand tree cannot be cut down just by using the head of an axe, but requires a branch from that tree which shall be inserted into the head of the axe as the handle, and only then the tree can fall. A great empire cannot fall, unless if the people inside the empire bring it down.

    BIG MENTION: (malay is my favorite civ - fishships my favorite unit) you can place usually 9 fish traps around a dock right next to it. it works. and it has instant drop off. i didnt do the numbers but its better than 29 f/min i think after gillnets. Though!!! there is a bug problem. there is usualy one of the ships which bug out and must be retasked (it stops when having 4 food. allso it can bug out if you build 2 fishtraps side by side. even worse with 3. i usually build 1 on each side wait for them to finish up then i build again. else you risk the old boat blocking the building. But its manageble. but yes you can build docks with 2 tiles between and fill up a littel pond with many fishing ships. Usually i get 40+ fishships on bf - especially on teamgames if there is a medium pond. there is higher chance for that in teamgames. with more than that i find it a bit hard to manage the bugs but i think i have tried 60 some times. my advice is: dock as usual. (allso if you have to walk vill far - guard with scout if not on easiest mode. then keed creating fish boats. i think you should wait making 2. dock you need for space. to keep castle time good and gain acces to gillnets. - a musthave. after you click castle focus on geting the fish ships out to manage the bugs before you need to micro elsewhere. On open maps i havent tested a lot. maybe dont build them close because of bug. build 9 still but with 1 tile between. it makes far lesser bugs, but less good. and ofc get the harbor upgrade. on nomad the fishtrap bonus is very good because you can justify making tons of fishships because its ok to go fishtraps afterwards

    • @taendt
      @taendt 6 років тому

      could you maybe do some testing about how to get the least buggy way to make the fishtraps in addition to effficiency? - btw you can max get gillnets 4 times in 9x/256x tech mode. after that it starts bug out for real. actually making some really wierd bugs. Allso dont do wheelburrow more than i think it was 23 times, then your vills cant really build proberly

    I really like the Special Malay build order when the Starting TC is close to water.
    You can build so many docks and outpace the others by a large gap to fast imperial at 20:00.
    In case you have teammates to protect you because you still need to research 13 techs to fully train
    trash double handed swordsmen. Perfect!
    Spam those swordsmen as long as your opponent isn't using any Mongol like super Cav Archers or quick Mayan Archers.
    You can counter them with another trash - the Elite Skirmishers.
    Brilliant, I tried this on 1v1 and got killed when hitting castle age... Hate feudal rushes T_T

    Hey I'm gonna be real, I've played this game for years now as a casual player, and I've never been good at it, but like, watching your videos so much and getting back into the game, I'm actually steadily improving my performance thanks to your videos, so I just wanna say thank you for that! I used to play my favourite civ (Malay) so ineffectively but now I'm actually learning to really take advantage of the civ's strengths
    And also thanks to you I actually started using onagers. For a long time I've had reservations about the onager because of high cost and friendly fire damage, but after hearing you praise the onager so much, I actually try them out, pairing them with the Malay trash infantry, and holy crap am I happy I decided to give the onager another try. I can definitely say now that they're my favourite part of any army because of how strong they are against literally any unit, even ships, So yeah, thanks for being a huge inspiration to keep playing!

    • @ArawnOfAnnwn
      @ArawnOfAnnwn 6 років тому +2

      In most cases those things are so small that you can just kill them with archers or onagers instead. Also, they're randomly distributed around the map, so typically not in any safe area. Still, a bonus is a bonus - every bit helps.

    • @corvo1068
      @corvo1068 6 років тому +10

      I would say the latter...
      2:10 mins for the Feudal upgrade are 130 secs. 130/1.8 = 72. But it takes 78 sec for Malay. 130/78 = 1.67. So it's 1.67 or 67% faster progression.
      Same for Castle und Imperial Upgrade:
      160/1.67 = 96
      160/1.67 = 114

    • @willdbeast1523
      @willdbeast1523 6 років тому +3

      Corvo that's actually the opposite of what I expected, normally when it displays in increase in rate it gives a much larger increase (such as the Japanese attack rate) so I was expecting something like an actual 400% faster (aka 80% decrease in time) so that's really surprising and makes me wonder what they got wrong this time

    • @corvo1068
      @corvo1068 6 років тому +2

      Yes, it'S really confusing. I didn't find a way to get 1.8 or 0.8 or something with a calculation that is just a little bit different. I guess they just copied the wrong number or changed it later and forgot to update the info page.

    Hey Spirit, how do the Malay compare to the Goths? I love both civs, but Goths was my first love, and I’m afraid that the Malay are flat-out better due to a better economy, a more flexible tech tree, more unit options, better water abilities, and roughly equal and in some circumstances superior horde infantry (even against archers, based on your Karambit Warrior analysis).

    I don't understand the math about the malay bonus of "advancing to ages +80% faster", I know the amount of time it takes them to advance is 60% of the normal time it would take.
    I am no mathematician but I tried to approache it as an equation of motion since the malay TC should work +80% faster when advancing through ages, and I found that for it to be +80% faster they need to advance in 55.5% of the normal time.
    Can you please explain the math about thise bonus, maybe in a future video?

    I like them. A lot.

  • @Pr0manStream
    @Pr0manStream 4 роки тому +2

    9:00 - yes and no actually.
    The cheaper cost is in that regard a better value than the stats that are traded in. Given that a heavy war will end in attrition sooner rather than later, especially in a 1v1, the cheaper elephants make it surprisingly easy to hit population limit with a sizeable BE count. Doing something similar with the other RotR factions can be done, but will lead to a _much_ smaller window of opportunity, as you will burn through whatever resources you might have had quicker, leaving you open for a counter push that you will most definitely not last through. BEs are a power unit, but there is a theoretical upper ceiling at which point a couple more HP and pierce armor are just not as important as having a bigger mass of these power units in the first place.
    Long story short, this I reckon is one of the few moments where a heavy discount on a select unit will help in the late game due to their already high cost and thus implied limited availability.

    I think one civ they would be somewhat weak against would the Koreans on water maps. Their turtle ships are ideal for taking out fish nets and fishing ships since those are immobile. Their very high hp makes it that even if you have ships defending they still can do a lot of damage before you can take them all out.
    Also against the powerful units and defenses of the Koreans the weak units of the Malay will struggle as they bump into each other.
