Its a fine line between a giant tablet and an AIO PC. Its not like its even a new concept, 15 years ago Dell even made an AIO that had a TV tuner and HDMI input built in, so it doubled as a monitor. All that wireless streaming is also all very well, but reliability still is questionable. I was in a hotel 5 years ago that had a Samsung TV you could stream to from your phone. Lets just say it wasn't entirely seamless due to signal crosstalk from all the WiFi in the area. "why would you have to hit it?" it's part of the pairing process, similar to comparing a set of numbers, hitting creates a accelerometer sensor spike and they can compare the timestamps of two devices on the network and if the timestamps match they know those are the two devices to pair up
You don't actually have to hit it. Mine is against the wall shared with my bathroom, and my phone tries to connect whenever I go to the bathroom, or walk past my screen. It's a proximity sensor, but when you've been close for an extended time, the tap is like a refresh sort of deal.

After getting used to having two TVs running Android and my wife and I jokingly calling them the "two biggest tablets in the house", I figured a device like this was just a matter of time. Give them another 2-3 years and smart monitors with tablet/notebook functionality will be fairly unremarkable. Within 5+ years, it may well be a standard feature. Try buying a nice TV that *isn't* a smart TV these days so it just makes sense for monitors to also go down that road. Seems like a really nice device for a teen or college student or just someone with a cramped apartment or home office. I wouldn't be surprised if smart TVs are capable of basic home computing like running productivity suites by then too. It really doesn't seem much of a stretch to have a TV running Android TV, running Google Docs or GMail from a little wireless Logitech keyboard w/trackpad. Just pause your show and check your mail without even needing to reach for a phone or tablet. There's no reason a TV couldn't function as a basic chromebook in several years.
Just got this monitor about two weeks ago and love it. Great for small spaces. Functions just as good as my main, 55 inch TV. But, fair warning- you will not want to use a regular monitor once you start using this one.

its literally just the exact same remote that comes with the TVs, its not some special remote designed specifically for this monitor. my TU8000 has the IDENITCAL remote.
As someone who's used TVs as monitors for a VERY long time, and currently using a USB3 a/b switch to control my desktop and server.... I like that Keyboard/Mouse connectivity... I like that a LOT.
You don't ~need a toaster - you have an oven. You don''t ~need high density displays - 1080 is more than a human requires - and grandma cant see the detail beyond 720p anyway. You don't ~need keyboard and mouse support - most people play on console - and PC gamers have controllers these days anyway. You don't ~need larger batteries in mobile phones - powerpoints are everywhere - you can just charge the phone during the day... (Opinion) I'm personally sick and tired of TV getting all the preferential treatment. Likely because they have the higher volume of sales... 1440p should have been a mainstream monitor resolution half a decade ago. After 2009 I expected higher resolution displays to drop in price as demand picked up - but they didn't. The introduction of "HD" as a marketing term is one of my least favourite hindrances to display technology. If monitors are going to suffer due to TV marketing, they should at least have the extra features.
I find it funny that people make these privacy conscious comments on UA-cam of all places, like you are already giving your data to google does it really make that much of a difference if Samsung has it too?

Actually I can see a use case for me and many other people using Linux, as Netflix or Prime Video don't support 4K on Chrome/Chromium or Firefox and having a smart TV-like monitor, independently of the OS, could be very handy.

I prefer all of my devices to gather information on me and send them to the giant corporations and governments of the world. Just makes it easier for everyone :)
Germany got ahead of it by changing their tv licence to broadcast receiving licence and every household is required it regardless of equipment. It's basically a tax on having a home now.
This is why I have a TV in my room and not a monitor for work. My main device is a Tab S7, which I use to cast Dex on the TV. Zoom calls and classes go on the TV, while I can take notes on my tablet.
“It’s like a tiny smart TV”. Awesome, so all the apps will just stop working In 12 months and you’ll have to buy an external dongle or attach a regular pc to it to use those same sites/apps again? Sounds like a great idea.
@@0xf7c8 Yeah, Samsung tried to do a proprietary solution for this ages ago. Waiting on when a TV manufacturer gets the bright idea of integrating the smarts into a stand base and make it so you have to put a screw in each corner for holding it in place. _Why in Sam isn't this a standard??_
As someone who has his desk directly in front of his bed and a pretty small room to cram both a TV and a workstation, this is basically my dream. Using a TV as a monitor definitely has it's disadvantages so I only use a PC monitor with one input for my PC and another one for a streamer. Switching between them with the built in monitor controls is kind of a pain and I really wish that I could control my monitor with a remote control.
(just to note this is a positive comment)if and when you guys eventually say goodbye to youtube you should let the full intro play will all the credits and where everyone started(first appearence) to their where they are now(final goodbye to everyone). love your videos keep making more
I don't understand why people keep spamming this stuff on videos still when they don't really change the title much now , just add the product name a few days later
This is actually timely. I was having trouble finding a *good* 32 or so sized TV with Dex and Chromecast integration. It would be nice to have 120 but 🤷🏼
I just ordered this monitor, I am really excited to do away with a USB-C dock I have been using and run everything through the built in hub, they really thought of everything!
If they made 42” or 50” versions of this, they’d sell like hot cakes in my country. TV licenses are a process and are quite expensive. They somewhat act as a barrier to entry to new buying TV’s.

(Opinion)
I'm personally sick and tired of TV getting all the preferential treatment.
Effectively Samsung's just saving development and money by putting their Smart TV OS onto their Monitors, and marketing it as an 'upgrade'.
