The best part of Black Ices commitment to realism and authenticity is when they unleash the critical knowledge that apparently no military division ever, in the history of the war was ever fully equipped or supplied at any point ever.

They really do. I'd hesitate calling it the "most realistic mod", because like all of HoI, they have to make the Germans way more powerful to balance the game. In RL, the German attack on the Soviets was just delusional and the logistics officers in the Wehrmacht tasked with planning Barbarossa even warned their higher ups that this was basically a doomed endeavour based on mistaken assumptions.

    • @igorpipuk7754

@@olenickel6013 Germans could enter Moscow unopposed in October. Soviets literally had no divisions to put in front of Moscow. The mud season is the only reason Germans couldn't advance. It gave Soviets enough time to raise new armies.

I think many of these mods also give or even exacarbate many of the failings on the allied/soviet side (things like the great purges), while not modelling any of the fundamental shortcomings that in the long/median term absolutely doomed Germany, like the state of the economy, crippling lack of food and crippling lack of fuel. To the point where leadership of the Wehrmacht was pushing to de-motorise the already heavily horse-reliant force due to a lack of fuel that they had no real good idea on how to address. The whole Stalingrad campaign was meant to secure oil fields in the Caucasus, but was imo delusional as even if they got them, they would not find any infrastructure intact and anything left would be bombed into ruin, not to mention the difficulty of maintaining such a long supply line.
By late 1941, after the failure of the initial plan, a lot of figures in Germany already knew that the effort was pretty much doomed, and I believe they even expressed this directly to Hitler. And yeah some logisticians (like I believe Thomas?) probably knew from the get go that it was going to be a mess.@@olenickel6013

@@olenickel6013 What was delusional is the approach and preparations, the fight and the plan (as long as we stick to the Hitler and strategic side of things, which lost in favor of the other way) were fine and things were going perfectly normal. Both the germans and the soviets didn't have flaws as far as soldiers and warring went, just like the Allies.
Expecting success out of it? And this is mainly because of the presence of the Allies and their supplies, but no. They weren't going to make the soviets crumble for good or defeat them that significantly. Just like - for the Axis side - WW2 in general, many things had to go well for success to happen. A scenario with the UK backing down and signing peace would've been a huge step, but anyway just with very few certain scenarios you would've seen the UK actually do that, especially with Churchill being there and pushing.
In real life, from 1943 and on, the battle was still on (in 1945 it was mainly a struggle, although tough and energized to the end) but hopes of victory wouldn't have materialized regardless. Let alone with the Allies actually bringing new fronts wrought on, very close to Germany, european ground. You're right that they were simply doomed.

There's fun in overcoming a difficult challenge, that's not BI. BI is just repeatedly hitting your genitals with a sledgehammer to prove something.

People really let their biases run wild. The Soviet Union was a production nightmare, and had to be massively lend-leased to have any chance of survival. Germany is not "OP" in this mod. It's very bizarre that people want to say that Germany's production was minuscule, simply because people don't want to give credit to their brutal but effective methods. Their economy was set up similar to China's today. It clearly works, at least in terms of raw output. People also highly underestimate the level of incompetence that would be (and was) experienced in the military and economic hierarchy when you purge everyone experienced, intelligent, ambitious, etc.

@@iruleatgamesmy guy, lend lease had only begun arriving in large enough quantities during 1943 and still it wasn't that much total. You're making it as if USSR was fighting entirely with American weaponry and supplies, which isn't true.
Also have you actually read what was going on during 1941-42? Red Army conducted a successful winter counteroffensive and continued probing the front and planning offensive operations to hold onto the initiative. Sure, Mars, Polar Star and southern offensive ended up largely as failures, but they paved the way for Uranus and Small Saturn to be smash hit successes. Germans were not in the driving seat, they themselves desperately held into their positions and decided to risk it with Fall Blau which ultimately failed. The war was not turned at Stalingrad, it was already turning at Moscow, Stalingrad was a wake up call for Hitler.

All of this is made up so people wouldn't think about Stalin as a powerful yet good political figure and didn't adopt his views, so they associate Stalin and communism with paranoia, death and hunger. So basically propaganda. Why? Because socialist economy appeared too powerful and they couldn't fight it economically, so they started political disruption of workers' state and the movements in their own countries.
Knowing this, ask yourself, if Stalin was a paranoid dictator, why no one revolted? No one plotted against him except opportunists who destroyed the country after his demise and killing all the people who was faithful to the idea.

Other than this, it worth noting that there was actually a lot of betrayers and opportunists. His right hand at one point literally plotted to kill him.
On top of this, a lot of things were at stake. USSR genuinely improved people's lives, and there were a lot of internal and external threats, one of which, nazis, were going to literally colonize the USSR nations like America did to native Americans.
