just want to point out there is 2021 12 episodes anime name Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood that takes heavy influenced from the Beauty of Lady Snowblood movies
The answer is Jean Clavivere who played Joan of Arc back in 1900. Grace Cunard and Ruth Roland soon followed and sparked a whole wave of female action stars. After Barbara Stanwyck portrayed Annie Oakley back in 1935 and Jean Arthur played Calamity Jane a year later, female action stars became quite common in cinema a few years down the line both as heroes and villains as the famed femme fatale craze of the 1940s. Most of them were either WW2 spies such as Marlene Dietritch or old west gunfighters Jane Russel but some such as Rosalind Russel were female pilots. Heck in 1942 Joan Alexander became the first voice actress to play an female action lead firing a machine gun in Superman's The Bulleteers. After the war in 1952 Marie Windsor and Carla Balenda became the first female live action stars in color I believe. And by 1972 the main female action star was Pam Grier whon was also the. So yeah, there had been countless female action stars by that point albiet Meiko Kaji was probsbly the first Asian female action star to hit it big int he US which considering how popular Asian martial art films got in the US att was absolutely no easy task.
Meiko Kaji was already an action star before Shurayuki-hime, but with this movie she had a great heroine of japanese folk tale. The character is something mythical, born from the hate, with the revenge as the only path of her life. A big influence for many female characters of japanese cinema and even anime.
Blue Eye Samurai is clearly inspired by this. Yes it's probably more of Kill Bill but KB was inspired by Lady Snowblood soo...
Look up the King Hu films:
Come Drink With Me (1966)
Dragon Inn (1967)
A Touch of Zen (1971)
The Fate of Lee Khan (1973)
All female led, badass films.
Had a feeling there were more! Appreciate the recommendations 🙏🏻
@@TitanGoji Come Drink With Me has a sequel called Golden Swallow (1968) but had a different director (Cheng Cheh) and it's also great with Cheng Pei-pei returning.
I have no idea how many times I’ve seen the first movie. Both films are great.
I think bushido blade. Took some of this idea
lone wolf and cub was excellent !!!
Was The Blood Made of Tomato Sauce? I’m a Little Curious Wether The Blood in The Fight Scenes Were Made of Tomato Sauce or Not.
2:10 What about Pam Grier?
Bro no there were other female action stars before hee
This Movie is a MASSIVE Rip Off to Full Metal Jacket!
This Film is Mostly a Rip-Off to The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (Titled in Italy as “The Good, The Ugly, and The Bad)
