Edit: There is no need to leave as much slack as I did in the stole loops when making the video.
Also, I now avoid the third knot when a microphone pack is clipped to the cincture because it too easily slackens.

Sort of complicated. I am grateful that , in my days as an Altar Server, the vestments were a simple black cassock and a spotless, crisply-ironed surplus. Perfect for all occasions. The Choir wore a similar dress, but their surpluses had sleeves that billowed heading toward the wrist. ending in a lace cuff. Most of my kind agreed that this little touch with the sleeves was not appropriate to the altar servers.

If it so happens that a deacon only has a priestly stole available, may he instead place the two loops from the front to his right hip, so that he can cross the stole diagonally?

I don't think that would work well. When I was a transitional deacon, I used two gator clips connected together to secure the stole to the side.
