Sorry just catching up! I’ve been up in the Tetons, and then came back to the High Uintas! Finally home for a minute. Beautiful area! July is bug city! Upper Geer Lake is beautiful! I need a thru hike in your neck of the woods! Cheers! 🍻
Good to see Kimber still hitting the trail. Good to see you both. When you going to guide me through the Salmo-Priest Wilderness Area? Love to hike with you sometime
Thanks for more of that impressive Montana scenery and a bit of clear blue western skies! Small wonder nobody hung around the lake and you had all the campsites to yourself with that bugginess. Beer at the trailhead is a powerful motivator after all those insects. I'm 4 weeks out from my jump date to start road tripping to Colorado for the Fall. I'm at the point when doubt sets in and I start asking myself if I really want to commit to another 4-day, 1,200 mile road trip (one way!). And then I watch a video like this and decide "yep" gonna do it. Thanks for the inspiration! The music overlays really fit the segments they're paired with.
We did a loop in the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness two weeks ago and the bugs were still pretty bad. Not as bad with the mosquitoes (they were still there), but a lot of biting flies (deer, horse and stable flies).
People just dont understand how beautifil looking up that darinage to Wanless Lake is....its Jaw Dropping. Video and pics just never seem to do it justice. Love that view. Small.bear lake for the campsite is good intel. Hiking in golden hour looked amazing man. What an experience. However...lil disapointed you didnt hit your catch phrase..."the Cabinet Mountains do NOT dissapoint! "
That view is worth going back to! But you're right, pictures cannot do it justice. It is really hard to capture the scale of that drainage. It's massive!
Great Video!!! Wife & I chartered a plane for our honeymoon & flew over these amazing mountains. We talked about finding a trail there & you just gave it to us!!!
Really wonderful video!! Amazing views, it's wonderful to see you and Timber out having fun .. we'd love to mail you a bug net .. thank you as always for sharing 🙏
Thanks for the views that I've wondered about for years!Wanless right there! Beautiful!Bugs suck in the Cabinets in July, worse then other places. We've been chased out of Upper Geiger before. Little Ibex was the worst. We spent 15 minutes there, one of the most spectacular lakes in the Cabinets. I didn't even take any good pics of the lake. It was so overwhelming with bugs. So I feel you! You got me thinking, Wanless from Buck Lake. I've done it before, but not with a full pack. Great video! Thanks for sharing! Hike on!
I feel like I hit this one at peak bug season... but those views though! I heard of people going from Buck to Wanless, usually without packs though. I'm not sure why they never put in a trail there.
Bummer about the bugs, but great views! I've been to Geiger lakes, Lost Buck pass and Wanless Lake, but never did that ridge hike over to Bear lakes. Thats on my list now!! Thanks!!
Another great video Travis. Just love our "backyard" Well bug season is behind us and now it is smoke season. Bug nets help. But I still hate the buzzing in my face.
Thank you for a videoo of this beautiful section of the Cabinet Mountains. Sorry the bugs were so bad but you hung in there. Always a pleasure watching you and your buddy, Timber, hiking in the mountains
Incredible views along the ridge top. The light was just amazing at the different times of day on your hike, especially the in the morning. Sorry about the bugs. I was up in Castle Crags a few years ago and the yellow jackets were swarming. All I could do was to get in my tent.
Absolutely beautiful scenery. My lack of tolerance for bugs means I wait til later in the season for hikes like that otherwise I'm just too frustrated. I turned down a backpacking trip in Greenland after I read about the bugs there. What a gorgeous & mellow dog Timber is, a perfect backpacking companion.
Some really beautiful country but those bugs!!! Part of the experience I guess. Glad there was beer in the truck. Timber is looking good. Thanks for the video and take care, Al
I always love watching your videos. I miss the Cabinets, hope to get back up there sometime soon. Trying to get the wife to try backpacking with me lol. These views would be absolutely worth it! Keep on hiking sir!
@@mountainwanderer she loves the day hikes! Just working on getting her to camp overnight while hiking lol! She’s loves it up there just like I do. We’re definitely gonna make another trip!
Awesome!!! That's quite an adventure. You got a pretty close view of Wanless. Next time bring tea tree oil. It's great for keeping bugs away and it's natural.
Beautiful views 🤩 I live in Washington state and I've been to places that felt like I was in a giant mosquitoe war zone .. I had to get the heck outta there quick 😂
Beautiful. Headed that way soon and thinking on Geiger. Hopefully bugs won’t still be hanging around too much. Little factoid - the caribou migrations in the arctic are determined by the wind. Whichever way blows the mosquitoes away determines which direction the caribou migrate - just to get relief from the bugs! BTW, noticed you got a new pack.
I'm guessing that the bugs will be gone by the time you get there! That area is such a beautiful place and if you have a chance to hike that ridge I would take it! Good eye! Yeah, got a new pack. This was the maiden voyage for it.
I just got a wise owl hammock straps, after 7 years of Paracord tie, and a very convincing, tongue biting fall a few weeks ago. I haven't ever tried it out west, but I have invested a perimeter alarm system as well.😊❤🎉
Hammock straps are a great investment. There are so many parts of hammocking where there are a bunch of ways to do it, but there is probably some specialized piece of gear that would make you wonder how you ever did it without it!
Travis my sis and I were in your neck of the woods visiting from California. We were going to message you but not sure how or what your thoughts are about meeting your fans in-person 🌲
Another awesome video with breathtaking scenery and pretty lakes. Timber is a great hiking and camping buddy! Just wondering, do you put your fire dead out at night or does it depend on the location and time of year?
@@mountainwanderer That's really sad Travis. I thought you would have a least seen some scat with all the Huckleberrys this year. It's pretty much pristine Grizzly habitat.

July in the high country is what I call, bug season!
We have to battle a few buggy situations ourselves. It can be a struggle trying to deal with them. Keep adventuring.

The bugs made this one a struggle!
Beautiful trip. Speaking as an old Northwest hiker, I always advise folks that peak flowers means peak bugs. It's just the price you pay. 😁
I've never thought of it that way, but it is absolutely true!
Amazing views but not sorry I missed out on those bugs. I'll bet that beer tasted real good back at the truck!

Have you ever seen grizzlies in the cabinets?
No, never run into a griz, though I have seen black bears
The bugs were particularly bad this year in Montana, maybe the high temps. The biting flies were horrendous in July so many bites on any exposed skin.
Luckily I didn't have biting flies! That sounds horrible!
Another awesome video with breathtaking scenery and pretty lakes. Timber is a great hiking and camping buddy!
Just wondering, do you put your fire dead out at night or does it depend on the location and time of year?
99% of the time I put water on the fire at night. When we camp in the winter we'll let it go just so it is easier to start in the morning
