Between your channel and Jean's, I think I need to find some books by Juliet Marillier ....yesterday! I'm reading 'The Dutch House' by Ann Patchett right now and am really enjoying her take on some 'fairy tale but not quite' story elements. :)
I'd be really interested to read supper club, even the name draws me in!! I love when a book absolutely engrosses you, like the JM book had for you. It's so lovely to get that escapism when needed 🙂 x
My favourite books in February were The Half-God of Rainfall by Inua Ellams. It’s short but it packs a punch. The best way to read it is listening to the audiobook. It’s written in verse and the author, a talented poet, reads and performs it. The other was Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde, what a gem!
I bought Dreamer’s Pool by Juliet Marillier ages ago because of Jean and forgot I had it on my shelves until now! Thanks for the reminder to check out this author 😀
Supper Club sounds really interesting - I'll be adding that to my TBR. The Juliet Marillier book also sounds great. I have not read much fantasy but have mostly enjoyed books I have read from that genre so perhaps I will give that one a try too!
I am an average reader with average speed, comprehension, retention and recall. However, like many people, I am interested in reading improvement. At one point, I took a DVD based Speed Reading course. I was happy with the results. However, my results were not anything like the results "implied" in the materials promoting the course. An interesting series of UA-cam videos would be you completing one or more of these courses, and reviewing them along the way. I imagine the providers of these products would be glad to sponsor you as to the courses, and likewise the UA-cam videos of you providing an honest review of them. Your consideration of this idea for future videos would be appreciated.
Supper Club sounds great, I've just reserved it at my library. I read a great book called At the Pond: Swimming at the Hampstead Ladies' Pond which is a collection of 12 women writers writing about the pond through the seasons. I think you'd really like it.
That Juliet Marillier sounds really interesting, I remember reading an adaptation of that same fairytale when I was about 11 or 12 but I don't think it was that one. My favourite book I read in February was probably The Shadow King by Maaza Mengiste. It's about Ethiopia during the Italian invasion in the 1930s, and the women warriors and the role of women during the fight for independence. it's so beautiful and deals with topics of power and violence and who gets to be a hero and who gets there story told, and also the dangers of duty and tradition. It's so beautifully written and I loved it so much!
I also read supper club this month and was going to recommend to you before I saw you read it 😂 it was amazing wasnt it, I was so engrossed it was the quickest I've finished a book so far this year
@@LaurenWade It's less long than Daughter of the Forest, so I thought I would begin my journey with Juliet Marillier with that one... we'll see ! And the story seems really nice too.
Best books I’ve read in February are Actress by Ann Enright ☘️📚 The Other Americans The Idea of Perfection by Kate Grenville Such a Fun Age Say Nothing The Beekeeper of Aleppo The Foundling How We Fight for Our Lives Currently reading along with the booktube prize and trying to do the Irish readathon. Awaiting the long list for the Women’s Prize.
I wanted to love Supper Club but couldn't even finish it. It felt like an endless series of strange dinners. I love the idea but the execution left me bored.

I bought supper club last autumn but never got around picking it up! You bumped it up to top of my TBR !

I have not read any of those books but, despite your misgivings, I'm intrigued by Strange Hotel.
It is very intriguing! I think a lot of the reviews on Goodreads are either 5* or 2*, so I would definitely give it a go if it sounds up your street
@@LaurenWade Now, I'm even more intrigued. I love divisive books! :)
So glad you loved Daughter of the Forest. It's one of my all time favourite books 😊
yes! Daughter of the Forest is such a wonderful book 🥰

Bummed to hear that about Strange Hotel - I was so looking forward to it.

My favourite book is Lesser bohemians so I waited for this one too but now after hearing all the reviews I've lost this aspiration.
Well I’ve just received another book by Juliet Marillier called « Wildwood Dancing ». I hope it will be great ! Have you read it ?
I haven’t!

Yeah, weirdly I found the food/dinners the least interesting part considering the book is built around that!
