It might be your opinion nitro is better than poly , it would be mines too , nitro allows the top to breathe , poly seals it and does not , poly will dampen the tone , nitro is the way to go , the thinner the coat the better , you knocked it out the park
What is poly though? Polyester and polyurethane are very different. Polyester is thicker and has that strong effect on tone. If choosing between nitro and polyurethane however, I'll take the polyurethane because it's a small tone impact and it's a suitable finish, meaning it lasts and looks good. Nitro is technically unsuitable for finishing because it wears so severely, it alligators etc. Many people think that looks cool and that's totally fine but to my eyes/ears I'd rather a guitar maintain a newer, more uniform look over time. And polyurethane does yellow some, which I do like, whereas polyester stays pretty clear over time.
What a lovely intro!! I am learning some old time tunes and big RK fan so this video is right up my alley. I have a guitar UA-cam channel here is Australia if you want to check it out, ❤👋🫡🇦🇺

I like how you work, maybe not the oldschool way of taking your time but with a good eye and hand for getting a good result! Maybe next shaving the braces a tiny bit to take a little bit of weight off?
The 328 is what I own it has some amazing tone woods 30-year-old Adirondack top and East Indian rosewood back and sides I could definitely recommend it. 😊
Thanks for your great videos - lots of interesting facts paired with amazing play! You mentioned string action, what would u say is a good height that an acoustic should play without buzz?
I'm curious if you changed the neck any when you refinished your RO-328. I have one too. Based on your video I'm considering refinishing it like you did. But the neck has a very deep V to it that I don't like. I will consider shaving it down when I do the refinish work. Please let me know what you did. Really liked your video. Thanks, Bob
Wow thanx brother i was wondering about removing the poly off my recording King RD 328 and replacing it with nitro cellulose. Your input was VERY helpful! I'm gonna give it a shot... By the way thats some great picking!
Ok great tone great song singing but is there another video somewhere showing what the guitar sounded like before the poly finnish came off? Thanks if you can post a link would be interesting to hear that.
Your guitar sounds amazing! I just purchased a Recording King RD-328. It has decent power, but I'm not very impressed considering it's all solid. The china manufacturing was a bit sloppy too. I was thinking of selling it but after watching your videos it seems I can really bring out a lot more sound by removing the finish. I play with aggressive strumming and mine also buzzes whenever I add energy. Thanks for the great content! Just subscribed
Did you end up stripping and refinish? I have done the same on couple guitars and big difference. To the refined ear anyway. One I finished with Nitro and one Shellac. I'll do that to all guitars from now on.
I also have a recording king RD 328 it's a wonderful instrument Great tone woods. Try raising your saddle just a wee bit and I'd be willing to bet you'll get rid of that buzzing

It would be nice if Recording King made them all consistently good.
This video says it all, it really matters!
And what a great song you brought us man 💙
Ok, is this guitar still playing good and sounding good ??

What strings are you using here?
5:06 some magic happens with cold hands 👌🏼😄 💙
Sjysst! Är det Vintage very light amber, Vintage light amber eller den som bara heter Vintage amber från Gitarrdelar? Hur många lager körde du?
Vintage amber matt 👍🏻
Which do you like better and why - RO 328, RO T16 or RO 318. I can't decide and can't test them anywhere local.

Wow sounds amazing even better
Very bluegrass. As if Billy Strings was playing.
Thanks for your great videos - lots of interesting facts paired with amazing play! You mentioned string action, what would u say is a good height that an acoustic should play without buzz?
I play at 90-95thou , 6/64ths , you could go a little lower if your frets are good , prob 80+ thou would be my limit
7/64ths at the 12th fret will never buzz
Yes. Nitro every time.

Good playin
Great playing and singing, thanks for a lesson in tone as well.
Nice video! Ive just ordered an RO 328. How did you remove the poly finish?
