    “I think u have to be willing to get beaten up a lot” no sentence has ever summed up my start in Jiujitsu better. I’m a 1 stripe white belt and I earned a black belt in karate when I was younger and played semi pro hockey and D1 baseball and hockey and I normally do really well against all other white belts bc of my athleticism (REALLY WELL Actually) but the amounts of whoopins I’ve gotten from higher belts is actually quite hilarious. 😂 it takes a special kind of person to be able to persist through those beatings and come out the other side. 💪

    Zuckerberg is doing something new right now with his public persona and it is really working. You could tell that he sometimes went into corporate mode in the interview but a lot more of his personality came through (probably thanks to lex:s interview style) where you got a sense of who he is that at least I haven't seen before. It's the same with these small posts about his physical journey with Murphy/jiu jutsu where people get surprised and impressed (myself included), that I think hints at something bigger going on. Find it interesting, comparing to for example Elon who I think is starting to "hide" more (behind jokes, political outbursts etc) it feels Zuckerberg is rather coming forward. Interesting.

      lol it’s always been clear that he is a highly intelligent and somewhat socially awkward guy who was thrust into extreme fame and had to make choices with massive implications on a daily basis. The scare/hate campaign against him on the internet was always just people with little brains who can’t accept or understand a normal person started something as large and influential as Facebook.

      Agreed. Especially about your comment about Elon. Elon with his halo effect and original "good human" vibes and the cred he built with Tesla and SpaceX, could have really spiralled his persona and his public image into a crazy positive stratosphere. But instead like an absolute idiot he started to act all "cool dude-y" running his mouth against so many different types of people...and now most people look at him like a fool.

When you're trying to problem solve and basically wrestle at the same time, you aren't thinking of VR or world domination. You're thinking, how tf do I survive right now in this moment?

If you really like to challenge yourself and be the best you can be, then jiu jitsu is something you'll almost definitely enjoy. I can understand why jiu jitstu attracts successful and capable people. Many get obsessed with it.

      That's not an accurate way of looking at jiu jitsu or life. It's probably not for you if you lack confidence. It's fun, but be confident in your ability to learn, persevere, and defeat your opponents over a long period of time. Everyone get dominated at the start of learning it, but you need to keep practicing and believe you'll get to a point where you'll beat them. It's a good metaphor for life too. Mark can get better trainers than you, but that's not enough. With enough determination, work ethic, intelligence, and skill you can likely beat him and others better than him. It depends on his genetic and natural talent, but it's certainly possible you can be a beast. Go get it man, you can do it.

    I gave up on JJ because I felt it was not structured: i.e. you spend 50min learning new move and then spar. Following class a new set of moves. I didn’t feel it was the optimal structure to develop proper motor memory patterns.
    After many JJ podcasts I was surprised to learn that is the norm for all JJ academies. You build over time of “getting beat up”.
    I just felt at the time that would lead to many incorrect motor patterns cemented (you do whatever works during spar as a beginner lol). I feel motivated to begin again with the mindset that not enough time to cement repetition is the norm. 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @sarahsevern354
      @sarahsevern354 Рік тому

      Each lesson you collect (or sometimes don't depending on how you learn/your body type) a jigsaw piece in the form of a new move or concept.
      As time goes on you start to put these pieces together in your own "game" in how you roll and spa. Sometimes the pieces don't fit the puzzle right away, sometimes they don't fit at all but the longer you train, the bigger your jigsaw becomes and the more move options, counters, traps etc you have to play with.
