No need to thank me man, always great to see another guy enjoy this song. One thing to correctly though, the series is Bravely Default, not Braverly Default xD. Probably mentioned this before but Marty Friedman did actually tour with this band for this concert a several times back in 2014. He plays during the boss medley in the concert video.
@@lastverse9598 on a technical level perhaps because synthesized music plays perfect notes but its still a spectacle to see such a vast array of instruments performing a rollercoaster of a song live. Also no lyrics for most of the songs that have them in the live performance, though since I don't speak Japanese I kinda prefer that most of the time.

Fun fact, that man in the accordion with the luxurious looking hair is actually the OST's composer! You can find a fascinating video essay called Bravely Default's Empowering Music that goes over the leitmotifs in this track, and how the entire OST sets up for THIS one.
@@JessesAuditorium The game has an interesting mechanic where when a character uses a limit burst, the battle music changes to that characters theme song. Your party get large stat boosts for the duration of the song, meaning that the faster you can input commands, etc, the more turns you get at that boosted power level, etc. This song is the music that plays during the final boss encounter, and at 5:48 it goes into the 4 main character themes. Mid-battle. Really gets you pumped up that the boss music changes to YOUR music, mid fight. Which is also why the style of the music changes so much back and forth right there.
As an RPG fanatic this is my favorite final boss theme that even beats out all final boss themes in Final Fantasy games and I played through that whole series so that's saying a lot!!
One thing to note about Japanese concerts held in Japan is that the audience are VERY respectful towards the artists and tend to not cheer mid performance with some exceptions but its generally very silent from the crowd.
Another cool note about the song: when each of the individual instruments get their solos, those are the themes for when a character enters a "powered up" state, and they overwrite the combat theme, so throughout the game, the player has come to associate those themes with a final push towards victory, which makes it all the cooler to hear those themes come in one after another to "duel" the final boss's music as the player progresses further into the fight. That's also why the first part of the song loops. :)
As a few people have mentioned, the solos are the main themes of each character. But one fun thing I haven't seen anyone mention is that the dude playing the accordion is the composer of this masterpiece. Oh, and if you want to check out just the main themes they are called "You're my hope" for Tiz, "Windward" for Agnès, "Baby Bird" for Edea and "Love's Vagrat" for Ringabel. They all have purely instrumental and lyrical versions.
6:19 - “Accordion? Let’s go!” Fun fact - that’s the fourth character leitmotif in this sequence, but an even funner fact - the accordion’s player is REVO himself, the man behind Sound Horizon.
My favorite part of _Serpant Devouring the Horizon_ is that it's broken up into sections when it plays in game, with different sections being looped for different phases in the fight. The really dark middle section plays for when your party is backs against the wall struggling against the boss. So the section everybody's talking about in the comments, the character themes of Tiz, Agnes, Edea, and Ringabel playing in sequence, cues the section where your party makes their comeback. The Character themes generally play in battle when you activate a Special Move, a sort of limit break that deals massive damage while also giving the party a buff while the music plays - the player associates the character themes with kicking ass! Which then gets followed from the main melody of one of the game's boss themes, _That Person's Name Is...,_ as if to say "you've won in battle many times before, and this is no different, go win!" and even the opening notes of the game's _victory jingle,_ just to tell the player they're on the home stretch.
_This_ is "preventing the end of the world"-tier final boss music. First the boss theme, dark and ominous. Then a sting of the world map theme... and then it's all replaced by the characters' themes - and then by the game's main theme. When someone says anything like that, music fitting for heroes saving the world, they mean _this._ Holy crap.
If you want to try some songs from the main project by Revo, Sound Horizon. It's not videogame music, but you may still enjoy it privately. Sound Horizon is "narrative" music, essentially Rock Opera but designed to be listened from a CD instead of performed on a stage (although they absolutely nail live performances too! It's just not the main goal). Each CD is a separate storyline, though there are connections between the different CDs' plots. For Revo, Horizon refers to each "narrative" or "world." The CDs are referred as Horizons with the big ones being numbered (The First Horizon, Chronicle; the Fourth Horizon, Elysion....), so the "Serpent Eating the Horizon" essentially translates to the "Serpent Eating the Story/World" in his own metaphorical language. ua-cam.com/video/FdWGxYApAhY/v-deo.html Sharing this interpretation of "Mythos" from the 6th Horizon, Moira, and the "Message of 11 Letters" from Roman, the Fifth Horizon.
I've never played Bravely Default either but the first time I saw this video I was completely and utterly blown away. There are many many songs I absolutely love but as far as being blown away in the "what the heck is going on?" way, this is at the top for me.
If you play the game this song hits different because it is a massive remix of like at least 7 or 8 individual songs, maybe more, that occur throughout the game so it represents a lot of emotions you've experienced through your journey up until then. The final battle is very long so this song motivates you to keep going every time it switches up.
Someone mentioned that Marty Friedman shows up for other tracks in the concert, but there's another unexpected guest - there's a second keyboardist for some of the other tracks who is Motoi Sakuraba, a prolific video game composer who's responsible for most of the Tales, Mario Golf/Tennis and Golden Sun soundtracks, and many others.
I'm so happy to see you reacting to this one because Revo has always been my favorite composer and I've been following his original stuff (Sound Horizon) for such a long time. While collabing with other projects like here the Bravely Default series or the anime Attack on Titan, Revo uses the name Linked Horizon. And the more people find out about Revo, the happier I am, so thanks for this! :D
I was so happy when Attack on Titan came to the US with his music because suddenly other people around me knew his music and wanted to know more about who made it, and I HAVE SO MUCH INFORMATION AND LOVE TO SHARE ABOUT THAT MAN LAHGFJLKEHFASLIGHAJEOI

Oh wow, first time I've seen a reaction of the live version. Well, it is an amazing performance. The drummer (Jun-Ji) is really good indeed, he's been Revo's (the composer & accordionist) drummer of choice for 10 years now and it's pretty clear why. You mentioned Sound Horizon, so let me just say that there's more where that came from! A two-decade discography full of banger after banger. Criminally underrated.

I'm glad you chose to go with the live version. This whole concert is an absolute *feast* and I do recommend watching all of it if you have time. Marty Friedman makes a guest appearance too!
if it hasn't already been suggested, the final boss theme of Bravely Default 2 uses a bit of this in it. Eyes That Gaze Into the Nexus - The Ones Who Gather Stars in the Night
Idk if it's been requested yet but you should definitely slot some Bloodborne music into you journey, it's all great but specifically "Ludwig, the Accursed/Holy Blade" is fantastic.
If you loved the accordion here, I would really recommend you to listen to Love’s Vagrant for the same concert. It’s the theme that you briefly heard in this track. It is sooo good!
I always think that 'context' can help understand a song better, and this song, as amazing as it is, definitely hits harder when you know what the significance is. This song is the final boss theme of Bravely Default, against Oroboros, the demonic entity who has been consuming the world over and over again by having patsies like us reset the world and eating what's left. So we basically have been feeding him over and over until the heroes of the story break the mystery and confront him. The best part, too, is that the part near the end, where you have the flute, violin, accordion, and saxophone, are actually the songs that play when the 4 heroes of the game each use their unique super-attacks, causing the battle music to change to their own unique themes for a short time. I would recommend listening to the OST and then this song again. It uses a lot of leitmotif, like character themes, overworld theme and even the victory fanfare. There is a great video by Video Game Fanfare where he talks about this called "Bravely Default's Empowering Music". Also the man on the accordion is Revo, the leader of the project "Sound Horizon". All of his music is this good.
Probably my favorite videogame song ever, it was so perfect, they basically had the music change for each phase, when we're losing to the boss, then the characters themes when they rally again and big epic theme of the game when you do the final push to beat the boss. The music made it SO epic feeling.
Yeah the music evolves and changes according to your point of struggle within the final boss, it's really crazy to experience. First time I've felt like a game's music is affecting my performance in the game, it motivates you to not give up cuz the last battle is pretty long and challenging last I remember.
OOOOHHH MAN...! The 5:45 is such an amazing piece of music that you could make and entire FRANCHISE and world... dedicate your entirel lifes work for a fantasy world/story JUST based on that alone! It reminds me of every single FF, DnD, Fantasy novel and mythological folktale of yores BEUTIFUL hopeful ending theme/tune! I think i am gushing so much because ive never eard a SOUND before that so fully captpures the idyllic feel of "Ye old of magic world that never was but in our dreams and legends" before!
Bravely Default is one of my favorite games of all time, and this is my favorite final boss theme in anything. I still tear up when the leitmotifs and the main characters' themes kick in near the end.
Maybe top 5 final boss themes of all time, but part of that is the way it brings all of the main character themes, which you'd have been hearing throughout the game, into one medley. It feels AWESOME when it hits that particular part in-game.
If you like choices between OST and Live-Performance, I can greatly recommend Ultima, played by the Eorzean Symphony. ua-cam.com/video/Tv_klDrSwMU/v-deo.html Compared to the regular OST, that version has actual fitting lyrics, while the OST version uses non-lexical Dog Latin. They are both still tremendously grand songs, and I greatly recommend both of them.
I'm working my way through all your reactions while doing some very boring work--this is making said work so much better, thank you! This is the second time now I've watched this video, love your awe and excitement for this. The whole concert is amazing and I've watched it a few times over the past few years. I can't imagine how much more awesome it was to see live. Bravely Default has a great soundtrack Clearly you just need to do a series of reacts to each song in this concert and see the whole thing that way :D (Teasing, mostly.)
this brings back memories, Bravely Default was such a good game with really only 1 glaring flaw, but the Music was so satisfying and the use of the 3DS camera for the final boss was great imo. also loved how Squenix hid major plot spoilers in the games Tag Line, I like to say that to uncover the spoilers, all you have to do is take the Final Fantasy out of Bravely Default, and it was stupidly clever
@@Nirual86 yeah, adding SP to End Layer to get send player, shame Revo didn’t do the music for bravely second, cause the story was solid, glad they came back for 2, though I still have to finish that one
Oh! Bravely default is one of my favorite series! I recommend the Ba'al Battle theme from Bravely Second! It has this sort of playfully creepy factor that I think is great!
The group in this concert is "Linked Horizon". They also did the ost for Bravely Default 2 and most of the intros for Attack on Titan with concert versions as well.
Loved the reaction, would definitely recommend "God shattering Star" from Fire emblem three houses. Absolutely enjoy games that make playing the game feel so grand.
This track is insane. But you should also play the game to better understand what happens in this tune: all the different instruments are reprising the themes for the 4 heroes during the final battle etc... So epic. \m/
Man, if you like epic live concerts, the Distant Worlds concerts for Final Fantasy are amazing! I have a special place in my heart for the Maria and Draco opera.
É tão bom ver que Bravely Default - Serpent Eating The Horizon sendo comentado, simplesmente é um dos meus favoritos do Revo, esse cara merece muito mais reconhecimento!!
Me a jrpg fan: Yeah , it's classic we have that all the time :D Tbh i love this kind of Metal symphonic orchestra it's really good to hear japanese composer are crazy good
Glad to see another person experience the Bravely Default concert lol. If you ever wanna do another Bravely Default song, I’d recommend That Person’s Name Is (specifically the version from the same concert as this one), Eyes that Gaze into the Nexus, or Battle of Providence
This song is amazing but to feel the real scale of it you need the game context, this is the final boss theme and it includes a lot of reference to other themes you find during the game. That’s really what elevate this song, how it’s linked to the game
i'm about a month late but holy shit, i remember playing this game back in 2012 and the nostalgia hit so hard just hearing the first 5 seconds of the song i'm on the verge of tears at 2 am LMFAO
Awesome song, and great reaction! I’ve never played the game or heard the music myself, but now I’m really tempted to hunt myself down a copy. Stay Gold!
Hope you make reactions to the rest of the OST, it has a lot of other outstanding songs, my favorite is Ba'al's Theme (mostly related to Bravely Second)
Fun fact the 4 heroes themes of this game happens within this final boss song. its why the theme changes. In the game it changes dynamically as you get better in the fight, showing the player is causing hope to burst through. 5:48 Tiz (You Are My Hope) 5:59 Anges (Windward 6:07 Edea (Baby Bird) and 6:17 Ringabell (Vagrant of Love) to mesh into the Asterisk Boss Theme (That Persons Name is): 6:29 The band btw is called "Linked Horizon" they did vocalized versions of the 4 heroes songs and the mentioned asterisk boss theme and, they are known mostly for the First Attack on Titan Opening.
Will you be reacting to bravely second or bravely default 2 ost? Bravely second has a different composer but bravely default 2 has the same composer as this
Do yourself a favor and just listen to the entire OST of Bravely Default. Every single track is perfection. I listen to it while I work and because of that I love my job.
funny enough they played the song pretty much as it is in game... sadly DS sound font its pretty subpar but there are some restored versions out there on youtube that sounds great
I haven't seen this live but this was a very cool video, I played Bravely Default (didn't finish it), the music is stellar (much to be expected from Square Enix as a publisher)
"That crowd is dead. Are they sitting?" Japanese culture has a different sense ooof... let's call it, "reverence and respect" for this kind of thing. People shut up and listen, and save the applause and cheering for afterwards.
I'd love to see you do a first listen to some Sound Horizon songs, Revo heads it and Linked Horizon, though SH is his original stuff. Marchen, Moira and Roman are some of his most popular ones because of the story elements, but he pulls in so much from other inspirations like history and music of the countries he's setting each album in.
Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P), the producer/director for FFXIV wore a Children of Bodom Follow the Reaper t-shirt during a Letter From the Producer Live (patch notes, discussion of upcoming changes, just general communication with the player base. You know... stuff no other major companies really do anymore, if ever) back in... February I think. It was a hint at one of the new jobs - Reaper - being released in the upcoming expansion. He has done that many times, with a notable one from a while back being a Spider-Man movie t-shirt to hint at Samurai. How does Spidey equal Samurai you ask? The early 2000s movies were directed by Sam(u) Raimi...

Have a nice day :)
I love your genuine enthusiasm! Truly a surprising piece of music, it blindsided me so many times when I heard it for the first time
Maybe top 5 final boss themes of all time, but part of that is the way it brings all of the main character themes, which you'd have been hearing throughout the game, into one medley. It feels AWESOME when it hits that particular part in-game.
YESS THE LIVE VERSION! It has everything I love in a song I swear it makes me so happy.
The guy on the accordion is Revo, the composer himself
stylish looking mofo
If you like choices between OST and Live-Performance, I can greatly recommend Ultima, played by the Eorzean Symphony. ua-cam.com/video/Tv_klDrSwMU/v-deo.html
Compared to the regular OST, that version has actual fitting lyrics, while the OST version uses non-lexical Dog Latin. They are both still tremendously grand songs, and I greatly recommend both of them.
this song just kept getting better and better as it went along, so good!
Bravely Default has a great soundtrack
Clearly you just need to do a series of reacts to each song in this concert and see the whole thing that way :D (Teasing, mostly.)
Also the guy with the luscious locks shredding on the accordion. That's Revo the music writer for this game!
this brings back memories, Bravely Default was such a good game with really only 1 glaring flaw, but the Music was so satisfying and the use of the 3DS camera for the final boss was great imo. also loved how Squenix hid major plot spoilers in the games Tag Line, I like to say that to uncover the spoilers, all you have to do is take the Final Fantasy out of Bravely Default, and it was stupidly clever
I loved it so much until the ahem, repeating part.
Bravely Default FLying FAiry
they also did something similar for the sequel (Bravely Second) but not the third game (Bravely Default II), which is a new continuity.
@@Nirual86 yeah, adding SP to End Layer to get send player, shame Revo didn’t do the music for bravely second, cause the story was solid, glad they came back for 2, though I still have to finish that one
It's the live version?? Hell yes!
Maybe ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Oh! Bravely default is one of my favorite series! I recommend the Ba'al Battle theme from Bravely Second! It has this sort of playfully creepy factor that I think is great!
The group in this concert is "Linked Horizon". They also did the ost for Bravely Default 2 and most of the intros for Attack on Titan with concert versions as well.
the most badass final boss theme
Loved the reaction, would definitely recommend "God shattering Star" from Fire emblem three houses. Absolutely enjoy games that make playing the game feel so grand.
6:32 What is happening is you are experiencing for the first time the single best music track in all of video games in my humble opinion 😎
É tão bom ver que Bravely Default - Serpent Eating The Horizon sendo comentado, simplesmente é um dos meus favoritos do Revo, esse cara merece muito mais reconhecimento!!
this basically is the ost lol
Me a jrpg fan: Yeah , it's classic we have that all the time :D
Tbh i love this kind of Metal symphonic orchestra it's really good to hear
japanese composer are crazy good
True final boss theme!
Glad to see another person experience the Bravely Default concert lol. If you ever wanna do another Bravely Default song, I’d recommend That Person’s Name Is (specifically the version from the same concert as this one), Eyes that Gaze into the Nexus, or Battle of Providence
Now that one is off the list, I hope he gets around to The Nexus Gazes into the Darkness ~ Those Who Assemble Stars too
This is so over the top, it's perfect
Nothing beats Bravely Default's final boss theme.
This song is amazing but to feel the real scale of it you need the game context, this is the final boss theme and it includes a lot of reference to other themes you find during the game.
That’s really what elevate this song, how it’s linked to the game
this is more of a musical story about the game, its not meant to be cheered to like a rock concert, this is cheering after the performance
Evil Flight is my favorite by far, but Serpent Eating the Horizon is dope as hell too.
i'm about a month late but holy shit, i remember playing this game back in 2012 and the nostalgia hit so hard just hearing the first 5 seconds of the song
i'm on the verge of tears at 2 am LMFAO
Awesome song, and great reaction! I’ve never played the game or heard the music myself, but now I’m really tempted to hunt myself down a copy.
Stay Gold!
Definitely do it before 3ds stuff shoots up now its diacontinued
it feels really satisfying to see a video on a recomendation you made :D
Hope you make reactions to the rest of the OST, it has a lot of other outstanding songs, my favorite is Ba'al's Theme (mostly related to Bravely Second)
This song is the most Uematsu non Uematsu song I have ever heard.
Fun fact the 4 heroes themes of this game happens within this final boss song. its why the theme changes. In the game it changes dynamically as you get better in the fight, showing the player is causing hope to burst through.
5:48 Tiz (You Are My Hope)
5:59 Anges (Windward
6:07 Edea (Baby Bird)
and 6:17 Ringabell (Vagrant of Love)
to mesh into the Asterisk Boss Theme (That Persons Name is): 6:29
The band btw is called "Linked Horizon" they did vocalized versions of the 4 heroes songs and the mentioned asterisk boss theme
and, they are known mostly for the First Attack on Titan Opening.
The section with the flute, violin, accordion, and tenor saxophone solos are actually the themes of the four main characters mashed together.
One of my favorite videogame music
-Composer-san, how many instruments and genres do you want in this piece?
-Yes
Will you be reacting to bravely second or bravely default 2 ost? Bravely second has a different composer but bravely default 2 has the same composer as this
I love that the special themes for all four characters made their way in the song!
HAHAHA I literally \m/ at the same time as you jesse when the accordion showed up ! Awesome suggestion, now its time to get the game !
Do yourself a favor and just listen to the entire OST of Bravely Default. Every single track is perfection. I listen to it while I work and because of that I love my job.
I did a react to BD this week, and another coming next week!
My God, this got my blood pumping...!
The only song played live that hypes me up like that is from the video "MOTOI SAKURABA LIVE CONCERT/Cutting Edge of Notion", such a classic.
This song makes me feel like I'm clinging to the edge of my seat.
funny enough they played the song pretty much as it is in game... sadly DS sound font its pretty subpar but there are some restored versions out there on youtube that sounds great
I haven't seen this live but this was a very cool video, I played Bravely Default (didn't finish it), the music is stellar (much to be expected from Square Enix as a publisher)
No clue what this game is but OH MY GOD IT'S SOOOO GOOD
Castlevania: Bloody Tears: ua-cam.com/video/GQc92nHJtWU/v-deo.html
Oh hell yes I love hearing what people think of this one because they always look like they saw a ghost and because the song is just insane
Never played thoe games but sountrack is a banger.
"That crowd is dead. Are they sitting?"
Japanese culture has a different sense ooof... let's call it, "reverence and respect" for this kind of thing. People shut up and listen, and save the applause and cheering for afterwards.
REVO truly is godlike
I'd love to see you do a first listen to some Sound Horizon songs, Revo heads it and Linked Horizon, though SH is his original stuff. Marchen, Moira and Roman are some of his most popular ones because of the story elements, but he pulls in so much from other inspirations like history and music of the countries he's setting each album in.
i finally beat the game so im watching this
And the game is even better.
You're killing me
Glad to hear you drop the Dream Theater name. I was wondering if you was familiar with them.
Loving these videos dude! Would love to hear your feedback on some Destiny music. Journey and Regicide are two of my faves!
Also here is the full video of Bravely Defaults live preformance so you can eigher react to whle then chop it in several parts or just watch it on your own. its like 2h live epic preformance./
ua-cam.com/video/ZDrp0k-11lM-/v-deo.html Bravely Default Live Concert - Linked Horizon Luxendarc Rukusendaruku Kiko (1080p)
This sounded to me like Nightwish meets Final Fantasy. Pretty cool stuff
bravely default games has amazing songs indeed, maybe a game and a song that hasn't been requested is kingdom hearts 3: vector to the heavens (data battle theme) it's a more fast paced rock/metal version of the originall vector to the heavens but it's just so good
