- From Babe Ruth to Mickey Mantle, there are legendary tales of 600-plus-foot home runs but no way to verify it. But in Belmar, NJ they want to recognize a 600-plus foot home run hit by Josh Gibson in 1936 in Belmar, NJ. Witnesses say Gibson hit a ball into the post office that day, and 86 years later the field and the post office haven't moved.
My Dad saw Josh play winter ball in Puerto Rico. And told me Gibson hit a HR with one hand. He called Josh the greatest hitter he ever saw. and he saw ( William's and joe D . mays)
Lol, my daddy said.
@@richarddean6735 that's right clown!
Why would someone hate on a man that not one but many said was an amazing baseball player! Hopefully your heart gets healed one day! And you lose that hate! Godbless Josh Gibson and the other players from the negro league who never got their glory !
@@stanhumble1897 thank you! My sentiments also but sadly it's already begun!
bob feller speeding bullet fastball, josh gibson three pitch strikeout for bob gibson
Thank you Belmar NJ. Much respect!! 🫡
Josh Gibson is the one reason I ever wish I was born in a different time. Not the opulence of Victorian age. Not you know watching the dawn of creation. None of that. I don't care. I care about. Josh Gibson. He's been my favorite ever since I could remember. Ever since I started paying attention to baseball so 40 something years ago I would give my last 10 years to go back and see him play
My son was in a meditation state and told me his past life's name was Josh gibson. I Google it and it was the josh gibson of the Grey's negro baseball league. We'll take it if it's true. He's 9 years old. A catcher, a pitcher, and a really good hitter. His name is Grayson ❤️
Sounds familiar .. keep me posted
Homestead Grays wow howd u know?
I like this idea for a movie. May I use it?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😮wooooow 😮
Josh Gibson invented the jet engine and the computer, when Einstein was stuck he'd call Josh Gibson.
Great story. Thanks for sharing the history.
Mantle hut one 565 feet in the 1950's. Richie Allen hit balls out of Connie Mack stadium in the 1960s. Josh Gibson HR is all speculation.
I'm a huge fan of Gibson and have been for a long time, but I will never believe he actually hit one that far or completely outside of the original Yankee Stadium. I don't believe Ruth ever called his shot either, but Baseball is about believing the false myth, and I accept that, so in the end, I have told my own children that Ruth called his shot and that Gibson hit one that far.
Amazing
Josh Gibson played many scrimmage games against MLB teams/pitchers. He hit .421 in those games.
Josh Gibson was the greatest power hitter ever.
Damn skippy
Really? Prove it.
No, Mantle was.
He may be one of the farthest HR hitters but his pace was usually almost hitting balls close to the back ground low seats before the ballpark sign !
Go and look at his forearms and you'll see how he could hit HRs so far
I remember a statement by the late John McGraw of the old New York Giants saying that he would take Josh Gibson over anyone in baseball, including the Babe. The Hall of Fame has a great tribute area for the past stars of the Negro Leagues.
Its not the only one josh ever hit he did it several times he was basically a line drive home run hitter so yeah i believe it.
💪
Next they will be telling us that Gibson hit the ball 1000 feet!
Well, maybe so, but one thing is a fact Joe DiMaggio never hit one that far
@@oldude979 No one has claimed that DiMaggio did.
@@joedimaggio3687 if Joe 'D' was forced to play in the Negro league YOU probably would say 'Next they will be saying he hit in 146 consecutive games'
I'm NOT saying that Mr. Gibson did not do this because I wasn't there, obviously. The sad thing about all of these stories about he and all of the Negro Leaguers is that there isn't anyone with us to verify any of it. It's the one great tragedy in the history of baseball. They claim he hit over 800 homers. CLAIM! We'll never really know.
Well Santchel said he'd pitch 3.games in one day 9 innings. He said he pitched 3 years straight, is he lying? He threw over 100 mph was they lying? If so, what color are you, then there's ur answer
'Santop" & George were at a pace but different of hrs distance or blows of high ones . And John Beckwith & etc...Hr leaders or AVG hard hitters who can hit a hr.......
They should call tht the belmar blast😊
You're funny. Baseball is way easier now. Smaller ballparks and pitchers don't throw greaseballs and spit balls. The ball also goes farther. Sports have all been diluted, not made more difficult.
Pitchers are better now. Hitters are better now. Everyone is fitter. Not that long ago you wouldn't believe what all was on the trainers tables inside the clubhouse. Read Ball Four by Jim Bouton
Oooh really
Josh Gibson never hit a homer 600 feet and likely never hit a homer 500 feet. 500 foot homers are extremely rare.
Story
Would have been cool to see him in the big leagues segregation was pointless
I can see him and babe Ruth go head to head.

Babe Ruth was the white Josh Gibson.
Segregation robbed us of recording his greatness ...
At least he has an X-files episode inspired by his accomplishments

Cork bats are nice for long drives.
So are 1970s era Cadillacs.
Josh gibson is a beast but 600 ft is near impossible, back in the day they exaggerated numbers. 600 would need 140mph exit velo and the perfect launch angle with no wind if wind is in your favor then maybe 230 mph exit velo. Ohtani hit one at like 119mph I believe was the hardest exit velo.
Stanton hardest exit velo ever. 122 mph
Only Joe Biden could have done it 😄😂😆😅
