The Yugo was not an American car, it was from former Yugoslavia, the only reason it was sold here was to help that country not break up as it did anyway.
The ONLY problem that the Pinto ever had was because Ford didn't want to pay to fix it, and the First Mustang had the EXACT SAME problem. Yes it was small and not very fast, it was a point a to point b dependable car after you fixed it's problem and you could fix it yourself, but everyone here DISSING the Pinto and The Mustang II HAS to give it an apology. WIthout the the Pinto being the platform for t he Mustang in it's Second Generation the LAST Big Block Mustang would have been built in 1973 and ALL Muscle cars would have followed suit because they were there to compete against the Mustang and Cougar. Not only F-Body cars but A-Body cars as well, NOTHING, not a SINGLE car would have gotten a big motor after '73 and the First Age of Musclcars as you know it would not exist. And then what about the Second one? WIthout the Pinto, there would not have been a Mustang for Carrol Shelby to fix when he was finished with Dodge/Chrysler. He would have just retired and this would have happened. No Mustang; The Camaro would not have been brought back because it was brought back from Chevy to battle the new Mustang. There are Gen Five and Six Trans/Ams that were built ON same gen Camaros that wouldn't exist or anything that was new that came from there like the retro 1970 Chevelle. Forget about the Brotherhood of Muscle too. The Challenger and Charger were brought back because D/C want a piece of the the new Musclecar pie that was because the Mustang and Camaro came back. Note: The Camaro was originally killed off the make the SSR "truck". And what is wrong with the Pacer or the Aspen?
I disagree with you the Pacer was one of the best cars I ever owned I had one for 10 years never had a problem with it and then I had a Concorde never had a problem with it neither bought a GM brand new day after I bought it it fell apart I have to say my AMC's were better than GM

Aspen i had ran great 225 slant 6 with scat pack with 4 barrel carburetor
The mustang 2 rack and pinion steering was used in a lot of hotrods.
What's even more worse about the '74 Mustang II?: it shared a platform with the Pinto(but luckily not the design for the gas tank)
I presently own both an aspen and a Volar'e they are good cars also drove one when new as taxi cab very reliable not like today garbage!

Truth be told the whole Ford exploding Pinto was a lie, it never happened. However, the problem with the pinto was it's poor build quality.
