Yes settling at the beginning of the river seems like a great spot, and the maybe a city in between the two later. Drew keep in mind that the Great Wall is supposedly better the longer it is without breaks, so China wants their cities to connect to each other. Also consider taking Preslav, they have access to Jade, mountains and the city connects to your farming circle and your Capital. You also take a Military City state away from the others and the war would get Gorgo of your back for being a pacifist.
It's very odd how when a tribal village gives you a unit it appears in your capital. Sometimes the village is on the other side of the map, which makes it even odder.

Something about war in this game makes me enjoy it more than in civ 5 where I have never gone for a domination victory. One thing was weird with how Greece never used a settler he had in his capital to make a 2nd city, even after I decided to allow for heaps of gold and a few lux to accept a temp peace in which time he could of settled. I did slow it with 1 warrior but it could of settled, even post war declaration since I didn't bother to track it

you need to rush religion as China. Because of Divine Inspiration which give you +4 faith per wonder you have. It will be picked by whichever AI that found the first religion so you need to be the first one. I usually rush Stonehenge after Pyramids

I decided to place my warrior on a tile in front of the barbarian because I literally didn't have the movement to kill them. Gorgo denounced me anyway (because of her Agenda) and declared war on me about 10-15 turns later. Long story short, I took both of their cities and beheaded Gorgo using my french powers. But yeah, the AI is definitely trigger-happy.
Bert Well, it was probably about turn 50-60 or so when they declared war on me. It's probably a lot more common for wars to be declared in the early game though since there are no warmonger penalties in the Ancient Era.

Play in hot or cold temperature, then build the Great Wall on desert or tundra tiles (There will be a lot of them).

may have been king difficulty but you can get rocketry by 1600 with china if you go the science root, gonna try it again on higher difficulties
