I believe there was a Japan-exclusive card game for Medabots before this one that looked really interesting. It tried to emulate the video games, so rather than each card being a different robot, they instead are a different robot body party. You’d have to “build” your own robot by joining different body parts together and you could even switch out the body parts mid-game if they got too damaged.
MegaMan Battle Network got a million sequels, an esports scene, and a fanmade spiritual successor called One Step From Eden. This idea works better when you've got a computer doing all the bookkeeping apparently.
The flow of gameplay when you see the game play itself makes it look fun because all 3 Medabots are moving around on both sides of the field and the Medafighter cards are being tapped and life is being paid there's a lot going on this feels like a game for Dueltainers who wanna put on a show and get fired up and say the names of the Medabots as they attack.
Like for a PowerPoint presentation a 3D render of the cards as 2D textures sliding around and moving around on their own as a calm voice explains how all the action happens at the same time.
the weirdest TCG for me was the german TCG/tabletop/RPG game BEHIND. You basically had 5 different clans (Vampires, Werewolfs, Amazones, Ghost and Templars). You played the game like a tabletop since you had several characters that started the game on the field and had character cards (with stats) and tokens (to move the token around and claim scenario goals). The cards in the deck either were used for effects or to measure distances since they had a "ruler" on one side and depending on the card the ruler was longer or shorter (cards with a big effect had a shorter "ruler") and that was then used to move your tokens on the field.
@@TheTestTable1 i played a demo version and one with the starter decks and the game was actually pretty easy. compared to Legend of the 5 rings or Magic
medabots were part of my childhood. had some good memories there. never heard of the card game but i had the Gameboy game. it was fun from what I remembered. just vibing and listening to you guys in the background unlocked core memories. thanks guy :,)
From what I just watched, it seems that the Medabots TCG does a decent job of emulating the mainline series of games. Nice to see that the franchise is still popular in Japan (such as having cross promotion with MMBN and Digimon) and totally understandable why it didn't catch on in the west.
Another game that had cards moving around a battlefield was Anachronism, the History Channel card game. It didn't catch on at all at my local shop at the time, so I never knew it went past the first set.
A computer or app aiding the speed turn order and handling the relevant timing would have done this game wonders. If I can find two different decks for cheap, I'd pick them up but this game feels like an absolute fustercluck to try and figure out on person with any friend that has more than two beers in them.
That does seem interesting. I'm a sucker for it because I loved Medabots as a kid, and I see how it could have a lot of issues, but I'd definitely give this game a try. Maybe go see how many cards actually got released and see if this is a worthy collecting adventure.
Yugioh was also out in 1999. It came to the states in 2002. The 1999 version is pretty different though and those version of cards are also massively expensive.
