I question the 'The Real Book'-sourced chord sequence; Eb major 7, Gb major 7/Eb Bass, F major7/Eb Bass, E major 7/Eb Bass, Eb major 7 etc. etc. . For example, I have never heard nor encountered a major 7th or dominant 7th chord with it's 7th or b7 in the bass used satisfactorily in music. It certainly wouldn't ever be in Wynton Kelly's left hand. The bass is either the root or the 5th of those chord types. The actual chord passage is this: Eb major 7, Eb minor 7, Ab7/Eb Bass, Abm7/Eb Bass, Eb major 7 etc. etc.
Very clear case of a pedal bass with a descending structure on it, nothing crazy. It’s simply Eb, Gb/Eb (Ebmin7), F/Eb, Fb/Eb and Eb. And by the way the seventh in the bass is used all the time, for example in classical music it is a very common movement from G to G7/F to C/E. Your changes are wrong and you have superfluous and mistaken ideas about music in general
@@trevormckinnon6696 just two ways of doing the same thing. theres a lot of chord substitutions you could use there EG Eb, Ebmin, F7, E7... etc

Cmaj7Dm7/Em7Ebdim7/D7/D7/Dm7/
D#dim7/Em7/etc. etc. Interestingly, the first 8 bars are the same as the chords for The Very Thought Of You. Also, the B7#5 rather than B7 is so that that chord moves back to Cmaj7 rather than to an E-rooted chord or it's tri-tone substitute which it would want to if it was B7. The Cmaj7, B7#5, Cmaj7 progression is also used in I'll See You In My Dreams, It's A Sin To Tell A Lie and and Jobim's Meditation among other standards. I hope you enjoy.

@@trevormckinnon6696 I feel that it's really an essential part of the tradition to have "your own changes" to a tune. It's a more modern/dissonant sound to have that kind of parallel harmony to a bass pedal, not a wrong way to play. Of course you don't have to like that idea, but it's a valid sound.
I somewhat agree But I think having 'your own changes' to a tune is not an end itself but just a necessary creative step forward in composition and song writing. For example, most of Antonio Carlos Jobin's songs and compositions are derived from juxtaposing small chunks of chord progressions from master songwriters like George Gershwin and Cole Porter.
@@trevormckinnon6696 Coltrane's body and soul comes to mind here. Perfect example of making a standard song into pretty much like his own composition.
