I remember rody selling me this album at a show when they just released it cuz I was so blown away by them having no idea that they would become one of the top bands I still love to this day
From a search for the truth all the way to palimpsest, these guys are one of the best to ever bless the world of music. Every song and every album are pure gold and I could not be more happy to experience perfection in the form of music
By the first 10 seconds of palimpsest I was thinking the same thing. I thought they would have this on Spotify or something but it doesn’t look like it. I looked it up because it reminded me so much of this.
All around amazing music, considering they were still in high school when they made this. Kezia is my all time favorite album from them, and any metal head would appreciate this and their later work. Listening to a lot of this, you can tell that they are all about changing the world.
These Colors Don't Run is one of the most incredible guitar driven songs I've ever heard. I don't even know how old I was when I heard it, and I used to play it CONSTANTLY but it's been at least 8 years since I last heard it. Fuck such an AMAZING album from start to finish
I remember being younger and hearing about some band playing music on main intersections… we now know this band to be Protest The Hero! Absolute underrated Canadian nation treasure! 🇨🇦
+Piergiovanni Gianpollo Protest never considered themselves post-hardcore but I feel it. They just considered it punk back in the day. Definitely one of my favorite albums!
HC punk Protest The Hero was a brief but amazing fling. Still one of my favourite. HC punk is usually pretty bland to my tastes but somehow this really strikes. Thank you for posting.
You could remove the entirety of the instrumentals and vocals from this EP, turn this into spoken work poetry and it would still easily be one of my favorite works of art. I'm yet to find an Album/EP with lyrics this meaningful, articulate and well constructed, while still covering such a broad base of topics. And that's without even taking into account this was written by kids in high school.
@@drumsno actually rody said he still likes some of this ep, he was talking about it on stream the other night, hence why I'm here listening to it again after 3 years lmao
@@drumsnothis is still one of their best it’s so pure it’s messed up I remember downloading this on limewire and going to a show and being fully converted
These colours don’t run is one of the best songs of all time for me this whole album is amazing fear and loathing in Laramie red star over the battle of cowshed it’s fd up how good this is
Thank you for posting this. Been looking for it for a good while. Big fan of these guys. I love hearing the progress this guys have made through the years. Can't wait for their new album.
Most of their albums tackle social/political topics, however they proceed to tell a broader story to deliver the message instead of straight forward punk styles.
I cannot help not to say that stuff like "their only good work" or "ABBA destroys Bee Gees" or any kind of ready-made comparison is kinda pointless. Kill me, coz I didn't knew this album. Always thought Kezya was their first. I love every single album... but I guess I'll have a new favorite very soon after a couple plays of this one. In a first glance, it's sad for those who love political hardcore (like me) that they strayed so far from it with the years. But a complete new and criative band came from this process. Bands are like this. Can't please you forever, coz they have to please themselves first. Suggestion for the "this is the best/only good album": grab a guitar, learn to play it and give humanity something worth sending the aliens in a box on the next stupid intergalatic vessel. jk but I wish this album was more influential... so many bands could have followed this influence and taken stuff from here, although PtH took it to other direction. If I'm just ignorant of bands that have done this, I need names, or it didn't happened.
This is the only PTH album I like. This Era of underground ops was so good. Bombs Over Providence, Closet Monster, Hostage Life. Political punk bands.. now look at the trash they sign and put out. It's a damned shame.
***** I wasn't calling Protest "trash". Underground Operations was known for being a Punk label and jumped on the emo/screamo wave hard, abandoming what the label used to stand for. These Silhouettes, Stereos.. Those are shitty bands. I respect PTH, but they lost my interest ten years ago. You cannot call UO a punk label, let alone one of the best independent punk labels. NOTHING will ever top Fat Wreck Chords, which has been releasing the best and most influential punk bands for the last 25 years. Hell, even Nitro, No Idea, Cyber Tracks are just a few labels that all top UO in that department. Chuck Ragan is the only good punk artist that's represented by underground ops. I won't even start on their "metal" bands.
+Kaelan Rasputin I'm not against the progression of PTH at all. I love bands like Strung Out and A Wilhelm Scream who've perfected fusing punk and metal. I have a hate on for Underground Operations, not Protest The Hero.
I love Protest the Hero so much but I agree with Rody. This is so bad. I saw them open for System of Down in 2005 and hated them until I heard Blindfolds Aside. Hard to think this is the same name that made C'est la vie and Plato's Tripartite.
so you only like the politically charged hardcore punk scene? I agree this was a great PTH album, but they have had many good ones after this too. Just cause they wanted to go in a different direction than you care to listen to does not change that fact.
Tyler Johnson Well, like I said, they have had a few great albums since this one. This one is awesome, then again so were Kezia and Fortress. I won't mention Scurillious or Volition, as those albums are hit or miss for some people, but they are awesome as well imho. so I don't think PTH ever released a bad album. Which brings me back to your original comment. "The only good album Protest ever released." They have changed their sound since this album. This one was hardcore punk, now they are more progressive metal. That is why I figured you just didn't care for their new sound or metal in general cause you said this was their only good album.
I remember rody selling me this album at a show when they just released it cuz I was so blown away by them having no idea that they would become one of the top bands I still love to this day
my old school teacher's sister is marred to rody and i got an autograph from him
@@pattyboy9183 Sounds unfair to me: she bangs Rody and you got just his signature. Still cool tho!

I can't stop listening to fortress. It's a problem how good that record is
Search for the truth ?!?
"I am Dmitri Karamazov and the World is My Father"
I have never heard such an endearing, charming title in my life. Thanks, Dostoevsky.
Criminally underrated debut. I wish they played these songs still..
14 years later, and still ridiculously relevant.
21 years later still relevant this band changed my life music wise
This is truly a lost treasure
So, so great
Only makes this treasure more valuable
So crazy hearing this then listening to Palimpsest!
By the first 10 seconds of palimpsest I was thinking the same thing. I thought they would have this on Spotify or something but it doesn’t look like it. I looked it up because it reminded me so much of this.
Most of the band has changed out by Palimpsest
I really enjoy this album, it felt so youthful and energetic.
I’d kill for this to get re-recorded
With the OG lineup....I'd pay in blood
I need this on vinyl
Seems like you are getting your wish to come true, they are releasing in november the guitar transcriptions and a 20 year anniversary vynil of this!
@@dereklamarche8456 It was released yesterday by Sheet Happens Records!

Hey;
I love this.
thank you.

this and Kezia>>> all pth album
Holder GK lol fortress and kezia are superior to this in every way. Prog metal > pop punk
Blueskythinking This is closer to hardcore punk, but I get what you're saying
I thin all work up too including Fortress is amazing
Try also the subsequent Thrice album, The Illusion of Safety.
Cool
because he was like, 16 or 17 lol
