Finally got my 500 SE yesterday(40th anniversary) immediately took it out on the highway and I was terrified at first. First time riding post msf, but I figured it out. Thanks for the content and inspiration
I'm so glad that your channel popped up on my homepage. Watched all of your videos. They are educative and fun to watch. Keep up the good work man! Love to see this kind of content
I used ALL the rpms during my break in period. Had zero issues and did my 600 mile maintenance and everything checked out fine. That’s just my experience
I'm as green as can be on a motorcycle, but something I've been working on is starting on inclines. The best method I found so far is to hold the rear brake just enough to hold the bike steady, and then use the friction zone and throttle to get the bike moving forward before releasing the brake.
Pull the clutch and hold a little throttle, then let off the clutch a bit to get moving and then let off the rest once you're on the road and going fast enough to not stall When I'm stopped, I hold the clutch in between my middle and index fingers (I only hold it with one finger, using my other fingers to space the clutch's dead zone) If it helps it helps
Subbed. Been 8 years since i've been on a motorbike, and looking at getting one soon, so doing my research into bikes, refamiliarizing myself with all the aspects, and you talking through it is everything i was tought when i first got my license, and watching this is refreshing my memory, which is fantastic! Keep up the great content mate!
I put on the LV Corsa slip on. Sounds great when shifting and engine braking--pops and burbles. You can also add headers later. Dig how you ride smart and aware. You're going to be fine!
the way you narrate your thoughts and plans as u think is on point bro, it's the whole world against you on that road and you always gotta be aware and just knowing that makes the difference. I've been riding for smth like 8-9 years now started on a cbr250r and i just got a ninja 500 a couple days ago cause my ass too broke ( ps: paid 13k usd for the 500 se cause everything is 2x the price where i live at :'( ) The only advice I can give you is getting used to the front brake. Only using one brake is usually seen as a bad habit cause if you just default to that in a panic moment instead of defaulting to gradual usage of both brakes it might not be enough to stop or you can also slam it too much, so research some on that learn your brakes, or how the brakes and the bike acts if you apply them in turn for example. You will be learning it all throughout the process but brakes are a really crucial part of the bike and your safety so treat em like it bro and keep up the good work man, great vid
I forgot to mention tho, at slow speeds/stops using only the rear brake is usually the technique that riding instructors recommend, and there's a couple reasons for that: to get new riders used to having both on the pegs while at slow speeds, if you have a heavy bike like the gs the front brakes are gonna be hard and sharp on slow speeds aswell, and it's just generally easier to use the rear brakes compared to the front at lower speeds
just hit the end of my break in period. so im taking it easy before i can get it into service this next week. I know i could easily do the oil change myself but i feel more comfortable having them do the first one.
You're learning and it's good! You really want right foot down and here's why. Keep your right foot on the ground, and keep your left foot on the shift peg and in Neutral. Some lights are really long and in Neutral you don't have to keep the clutch in. You can relax, stretch your back, adjust mirrors, phone, helmet etc. When the light changes, clutch in, press down to shift to 1st, and since your left foot is already there on the peg ready to shift, everything happens in about 1 second. Try it. You'll see it works!
I much prefer left foot down, especially if you are on any kind of hill so you can keep your right foot on the break and you won't be rolling anywhere. Plus your hands are free too.
@@AbombBiker Actually, I do use that to keep from rolling up or down a hill but if I need to adjust with my hand it goes to neutral and I use the front brake leaving my hand free with both feet on the ground. Then right foot stays down while left foot comes to the shifter when it's time to gol
I'm thinking about getting a motorcycle as my first vehicle. Probably a terrible idea but I want one so bad. I've been obsessed with the idea of getting one for a while now
You should check the owners manual. I don’t think that you are not supposed to go past 6k rpm until you have 300 miles on the engine. It might even be a little higher. That said, I don’t think that you hurt anything. Ride safe.
Great ride man! Welcome to highway speeds 😎 I also like your play by play safety analysis, it’s informative too. I think it’s how I want to start doing my videos once I get my chin Mount. How are your slow speed turns? I’ve ridden a 1000 miles in the past week and now suddenly I’m overthinking them and nearly dropped my bike the other week lol
I definitely need to practice more, but im getting more comfortable with the bike for sure. It doesnt feel as bike anymore as before. I havent practiced since my last parking lot video. Hopefully i can practice soon!
Wow on the highway now! Congrats! I love your excitement and confidence. It really was a nice day too. Hope you enjoyed your coffee and oatmilk. 😊 By the way, medium roast, dark roast? 😂
great vid! new rider just purchased the 500! excited and nervous but would like to know what gear you have on? im trying to learn as much as possible to ride safely
In my more recent vids I have down in the description!

Hey bro I'm in the long Island area I'm planning on getting a ninja 500 soon would definitely love somebody to ride with if you ever get a chance 👌🏿 stay safe brother 🙏🏿
Great video man, I like that you are talking your way through it! it's a way of building up confidence. I am also new and can't wait to learn and enjoy the road, however I am also looking for a quadlock and I'm also getting the Ninja 500 SE model but I'm not sure if my bike has that lip thingy but I believe you have the fork stem mount? If you can link me the model you used that would be awesome or any other advice you have!
Yep its the stem mount w/ the dampener! Only thing is, i find that the vibration loosens the screw so i put some more thread lock to try and prevent that from happening again
For ear plugs, I use pinlock, they are $25 but worth it. I can't stand those disposable ones. Plus the pinlocks are designed to be used with BT. Nice Highway ride.
I haven't used the pinlock plugs, but I will say, Decibullz also makes some fantastic and comfortable custom-molded ear plugs. I've been using them every day for months now and they're super comfortable.
Hey man. New rider here as well. Just made a year. You may be doing it already, i just I would chime in and say that if you that if you use a lot of engine braking to make sure to tap your brakes to alert people that you are slowing down. Also, check out the Brake Free gizmo for your helmet. Love mine. Take care man.
Did you do the voice over later? 8:02 you said trail brake here, but you never touched the brake. Looks like you didn't even brake before the corner What's going on lol
I got same exact bike, sane spec everything, I just spent 280$ on Leo Vince slip on exhaust 2018-2023 ninja 400 which fits the 500 and it makes a world of difference
i like how he communicates everything he sees, notices, or does and his thought process, its something useful to learn from
This!! ☝🏻
bro that's called autism lmao

Congrats!
Nice! I bought the same bike 1.5 weeks ago. Waiting to do my test. Longest wait ever. Lol
Keep riding like this bro. You're such a smart/safe rider and that's gonna help you in the long run. Good stuff bro
Appreciate that!

Congrats on hitting the highway for the first time! It's nice to see that there are others out there who also talk their way though riding lol
Thanks!
These videos are the reason I’m getting a 500 as well!!!
Ayyee…lets go!

Props to you. That wind is a challenge you don't appreciate fully until you're out there.
Go ahead and get that exhaust... For safety, of course 😏
That's the plan!

Good for you, man. no way I’m ready for highway speed. Your video makes me nervous as hell. Hopefully in time.
Be safe.
Go at your own pace! Ride safe!
Great vid! It’s cool to watch someone else starting out. I’m going to be getting the same bike too in around a week so I’m looking to YT to learn more
Congrats in advance!
I've been riding my Rebel 1100 for about 5 months now, and I found out there is a big difference in wind at 45 mph and wind at 70 mph lol
Tip I learned. Hold your knee out in the direction of the wind to help stabilize.
Eyeglasses tend to fog up when riding in cold weather. Good job your first time on highway.
Ahh makes sense, appreciate it!
Bro, tanglewood sandwiches are the bomb!! Get the chicken cutlet with lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and bacon. Will change your life!
Oooo gotta check it out!
Awesome video
Thanks!
Pick up some anti fog wipes or spray. Cheap and effective. They also have anti fog helmet vizers. Use them on your mirrors too.
Nice! I’ll check it out
I'm thinking about getting a motorcycle as my first vehicle. Probably a terrible idea but I want one so bad. I've been obsessed with the idea of getting one for a while now
Take the msf course and see if riding is for you! My other video explains a lot more about getting started!
Please use both brakes at all times. Also, rev matching isn't necessary. Downshift and release the clutch.
You should check the owners manual. I don’t think that you are not supposed to go past 6k rpm until you have 300 miles on the engine. It might even be a little higher. That said, I don’t think that you hurt anything. Ride safe.
Yeah it says not until 150 miles…close enough 😆😂…at least i wasnt red lining

Hey! nice to see an other beginner rider in the neighborhood. We should ride sometime.
It's great that you have two sets of ears. Kinds weird but probably quite useful.
They are! 🤣😂
Wow on the highway now! Congrats! I love your excitement and confidence. It really was a nice day too. Hope you enjoyed your coffee and oatmilk. 😊 By the way, medium roast, dark roast? 😂
Thanks! Neither, light roast!
@moto.nyc718 nice! A good light roast goes a long way. Coffee in general is just great. Stay safe out there! Looking forward to the next video! 😁😁

@@moto.nyc718 your welcome
6:57 where you get a second set of ears at?
Haha
Always use front break more than rear break. Don’t always rely on rear brake.
Very true!
Not really. Slow speed stopping (less than 15ish) should be more rear biased. Higher speeds, more front. Ride safe, bud.
Are you letting the throttle go completely when you shift gears? Or are you moving it back to the starting position?
Im constantly holding on to the throttle never letting it go, im twisting my wrist back
Buy super loud exhaust sp cars know
How hard is it to balance the bike against the wind when going fast on the highways? Planning to get a bike next spring lol
Its honestly fine…you get used to the wind pushing you around a bit. Just squeeze the tank and you’re good!
great video! what are you using to get that camera angle on the bike?
I made a video about my camera set up!
Did you do the voice over later?
8:02 you said trail brake here, but you never touched the brake. Looks like you didn't even brake before the corner
What's going on lol
No voice over, i was using rear brake!
@@moto.nyc718 to trail brake around a corner?
@@moto.nyc718 Trail brake with the rear brake?
How did u add the Bluetooth to your helmet, or the little comms thingy on the side did it come with or did u add it
Its the cardo edge! (not sponsored)…basically a bluetooth intercom that you have to install in your helmet
U got 2 action cameras but not slip-on exhaust? 😢
Exhaust is on the list 😭…just waiting until the first oil change
Bro what kind of microphone are you using?
DJI! Made a video of my setup
yo whats ur gear/where u get it from?
Helmet-AGV, Jacket, boots, gloves- Alpinestars, pants-Dainese…ordered from cycle gear!
Yo r u on li?
YOUR NEARLY AT 1K SUBS CONGRATS MAN. ALSO, MADE THIS CHANNEL CUZ YOUR MY INSPIRATION AND I WANNA BE A YTBER WHO DOES THE SAME AS YOU
You can do it!
@moto.nyc718 Thanks, but how do I start ? What should my first video be?
I only came with 1 set of ears 6:48

Get a more sturdy backpack, north face or a actual riding bag
You're only a beginner rider for like 2 weeks. You can take down the algorithm edger
