Great content! Following you for any related services on the GLA. I’m still under warranty but not looking forward to the ridiculous prices the dealers charge.
Thanks for sharing this. I do all our vehicle maintenance myself. We’re about to buy a new Mercedes (first time owning an MB) and I’m a bit skeptical as to what I can and cannot do. I’m not a huge fan of paying a lot for dealerships to do routine maintenance.
In my experience, the GLA is not any harder (or easier) to work on than any modern car. Like all cars now, it packs a small motor into a very small space, so some things can be difficult to reach. For instance, while it was under warranty, the electric water pump started having intermittent problems. MB replaced it free, but I was told it was about a 10-hour dealership job because of where it is located. Normal maintenance like oil, filters, plugs, etc., is not difficult to do. UA-cam now has videos of just about everything job, so that is helpful. Our GLA has been quite reliable since its warranty expired. (Wood knock).
Crack the filter open first to drain the filter oil down to the pan and then drain pan. Otherwise there is oil held in the filter housing anddrained into the pan you just drained. You have a lift, crack the drain plug loose with a longer hande with no extensions and then remove the rest of the way with the long extension with just your fingers. Put some thought into this. It's literally one of the easiest oil changes to do.
quick question sir. Can I drain the oil out on this car if the front end was on ramps? Would I be able to get all the oil out even though the drain bolt is in the front? Thanks so much!
Looks like dealer locked it so hard so you couldn't DIY. I had the same experience. Try Fumoto valve, next time just connect little hose, easy and clean.
Remember though never ever put too much oil in these engines.. you will have a mess coming out of the oil cap and hard to determine where source is from.
GLA250 should have the oil extracted from above from the dipstick, as the dealer does. Not from the drain plug, that's why it's a little seized, it's never been open.
Weird technique they use at the dealership. Well, this guy does not recommend it in this video (see the link). Other respectable mechanics do not do that way either...ua-cam.com/video/5RYMYZh0gfw/v-deo.html
I’ve been doing my own oil changes for decades. I also have an oil extractor. Oil extractor does not completely remove the minor sediment that remains in the pan. Sometimes I’ll remove most of it with an extractor and then the rest via the plug. Especially when there’s eight or more quarts of oil.
not at all... easy to get to and absolutely no dripping at all.... very easy oil change. Remember though never ever put too much oil in these engines.. you will have a mess coming out of the oil cap and hard to determine where source is from.
OEM mercedes filters are Purflux ,but as long as it's a quality equivalent one ,nothing matters. I've typed on youtube "wix Wl7515 " to see if the filter I needed looked good, mission accomplished.
I work at a Chevrolet dealership and one of these came in for an oil change.Your video was very informative.
That's why I do it. Thanks for sharing!

You can do everything very easily except for the Spark plugs...
The engine air filter is super easily accessible etc...

Wow, they got rid of the need for a filter wrench. But they managed to find a very hidden place to put it. Did you lub the o rings
Here’s the pro tip: If you flip the car upside down, the oil will drain from the engine without removing any drain plugs.
A ton of torque? You know how much energy is lost using extensions like that on a 3/8 drive 😂
It was something less than 2000# of torque, I admit. It was way more than it was supposed to be, however.
If you did the filter last you probably dropped .4 of old oil back into the engine
Bruh what🤡

then online you hear people talking about dynamometers and other BS , dynamometer my ass !!!!
Just to let you know your dealer never changed your oil. As in never did the service ever
OIL FILTER LOCATION AT 5:03
did you say the size of the engine drain plug???
Sorry, I don't think so. It looks like 14 or 15 mm.
Remember though never ever put too much oil in these engines.. you will have a mess coming out of the oil cap and hard to determine where source is from.
Why are you using that long of an extension lol
is there a dipstick on this car?
Yes. You can see it at about 4:57 just to the left and behind the filter hole. It's yellow.
zx
27mm.
They torque that bolt way too much....was that dealership?....😳😳😳😳
GLA250 should have the oil extracted from above from the dipstick, as the dealer does. Not from the drain plug, that's why it's a little seized, it's never been open.
Interesting. Why do they do that at the dealership? Is it just faster? It does not seem like it would remove the contaminants as well.

Mercedes says drain!

People make fun of me cause I extract the oil from the dipstrick ,lol ,jokes on them !!!
👌👌👌👌👌👌
OMG this filter location is super messy
nope no mess, zero. Very Very convenient! Easiest oil chg ever.
