- Now that the C30 has reached middle age, Volvo have rewarded it with a nice smiley face and a brand new sports chassis. In this video Vicki Butler-Henderson finds out if a facelift should be enough to make you buy one. For more videos, news and reviews go to fwd.five.tv/fif...
Well you don't buy a volvo for excitement. Safety and sophistication is the name of the game.
For those wanting practicality and economy, get the diesel. For those wanting speed, acceleration and great handling, and don't care about economy, get the 2.5 litre R-Design. But please don't test drive the diesel version whilst comparing it to the Scirocco. The diesel and R-Design are two entirely different vehicles with only one thing in common - great looks.
Or just get the 5cyl Diesel R-Design
drives a diesel Volvo ... complains about engine noise @ 4k rpm at lower speed ! This is wrong on so many levels ...
Love the car though !
Pity they didn't build the Polestar AWD version as i'd of loved one in Swedish Racing Green !!!
you can have a polestar chip tune on a v50 with awd
"Its not as fast as you would hope" Well duh, who buys a diesel for performance?
Audi drivers?
D5 with a Stage 1 map is good for sub 7 secs and 245 bhp
My then favorite car presented by my favorite Vicky. Now, i own the car :))
oh my god why would you start the car like that..
Great show ... please come back on T.V again.
@phantomloita Waiting to shift till the red line is VERY inefficient.. You actually get way more torque at lower RPM.. so it's better to shift faster.
I need Vicky to come drive my C70 - just for her opinion of course!
@ov010 Well the BMW is more costly to fix if something does go wrong, and I think the Volvo is more special because it's unique. I personally like the Volvo's styling way more than the BMW even though the BMW is a pretty car.
I got a c30 r with the T5 and polestar tune. It makes 250hp. But a c30 without a T5 just isn't much a c30
Thank you for showing your stupidity to the rest of the world, you fucking fucktard dumbass.
Why do you call it a c30 R? Never been an r-car, it's a r-design wich means nothing perfomance-wise.
Its what you make it....sounds like you would never be happy,
@@FreeBestplayer123 I called it that because Volvo literally put R-design in the name. Are you salty because I said its name?
@@MrCheesypuf Not salty at all, I was just pointing out the facts, there is a big difference between R and r-design, kinda like Volkswagen Golf R and Golf R-line, everything is just cosmetics where as an R-car would be performance as well. There has never been such a thing as c30R as far as I know.
Nice..... I think i would still go for the R-Design model
My 2008 1.6 Petrol C30 is as slow an aging snail. But I didn't buy it for speed. I bought it for it's looks.
@MacGyver920 Only the money is chinese, but volvo is completely built and engineered in sweden.
The presentation skills of the host are a lot more pleasant than the car!
YAY! Volvo's are good looking again! :D
Great review, thanks Vicki
Actual buttons, built in screen (not bolt on after thought). Great times.
its named after a wind like lots of other vws and in that case she has the correct pronunciation but when you are talking about the car it is said with a SH
@michiel1551 ... I do sometimes, intentionally ofcourse, noisy is ok if the noise is the engine at that rpm
the 2006-present Volvo C30 is assembled in
Ghent, Belgium
I know, but the whole point of a diesel is changing up soon to keep your fuel consumption down.
@ProXen4 Their engines are built by Yamaha, which is Japanese, not Chinese.
Noisy at the red line?
who ever goes to the red line in a diesel?
@Molinkintov All diesels sounds like canal boats starting up cold. They still shift though.
I wish we had the diesel option here in North America... All we get is the 2.5 t5 which gets 29 miles per us gallon highway....ick.
I like it , looks fun for a trip in New England
@michiel1551
Then again she said red line was at only 4.5k, which isn't hard to get to!
Macgyver920 is wrong on many counts, in particular it's worth noting that the engines are not all Japanese - the 2.0D in this one is the ford/PSA lump and so built in Europe somewhere. Maybe one or more of the NA petrols are shared with Mazda (the 3 is the same floor pan as the C30 and the previous gen focus). The 2.5 T5 engine is not
Japanese.
Ps. The C30 is made is Belgium.
@srt4crazy289 the only thing i didn't agree with is that you were giving the people the impression that diesel engines can't be fast, and deliver performance, while at the same time being VERY economical. The price you pay for cars like you mention is big, and the price you pay everyday for fuel even bigger. To me, it's just personal choice of using your wallet frequently.
What was Volvo's policy for addressing safety recalls? Precisely airbags. Did Volvo put to its customers the idea of putting their lives at risk by driving the vehicle to the dealership to get the airbags replaced?
Well the newer ones are certainly much more fun than even the ones 7 years ago. Mabey the new S60 can bring even more fun into the Volvo family. Suposedly, it's the "funnest" Volvo ever. But about the diesels, they can't come because few people would buy them and on top of that they don't meed U.S. emistions regulations. Have you drivin one of the 2010 C30s?
tell me about it i coulden't keep my foot off the gas pedal in my 940Turbo
@michiel1551 that was the same thing I thought. This car is still exciting for me. Bring it!
@michiel1551
As a reviewer, I doubt she cared about fuel consumption. Besides, I love the growl of my Volvo and even though I try to be conservative on the gas pedal most times, even my foot slips every once in a while! :P
i like the volvo c30
I'm torn between the volvo c30 (the 1.6 & 1.8 petrols aren't worth getting) and bmw 1 series (the smaller engines more powerful than volvos)
@DamirKedzo Yeah, exept all the new concept cars, which Volvo actually CLAIM are Scandinavian design, even though it's all Chinese.
Mommentum?
that centre console is cool
ignition still needs to use a key while competitors doesn't need a key to start the engine.
This is discontinued since 2013...
I have keyless on my 2011 C30...
Great car
Yo probably getting this car soon as my first car, so is it woth to get 1.8 or just go for the 2.0 or 2.5?
2.0 Diesel or Petrol is he best price/efficient choice. D5 2.5 the best choice. I don't recommend buy this car for first car. Better buy something cheap to run. ;)
Well a bit too late I got the 1.8 and I am very prud of it, I got the summum version wich has the best options in a car and its a 1.8 so it wont be so expensive to run in Finland where gas is very expensive :D But yeah and its a sick first car for me tho :)
+Tamaleking111 congratulation! Welcome in Volvo Club. :) I also have the most premium version ( in UK its called SE Lux from 2012). We would like travel to Finland in winter time, so I will be looking C30 on the road. ;) heh Its sad that Volvo doesn't make any more nice small coupe like C30. :/
Ty :D, Yeah but I think Volvo is the kind of car that is not supposed to be a small car. And I think its good that Volvo wont go too small... in my opinion :)
Yea I totally agree but there were no affordable ones on the sale at the time :( I would love the r-design on it but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
1. You CAN'T compare a car like that with Fiat 500, it's two different types of cars.
2. Why combine the R-chassis and a small engine? Not many people at all would do that after testing the R-chassis and the standard with this engine.
3. DON'T SIT ON THE HOOD it's a new car!! Who does that??
Try a t5 then, what was you expecting??
@r4Dioo Yes it is.
i love you vicki
Nice alternative as a baby hatch for blokes who don't like girly cars like the Beetle, Mini or Fiat 500 !!!
I love her
@geoffp13 Yup! Most car reviews say the same thing.
Dose her mouth keep dislocating?
@ProXen4 Haven't heard that one before...
Their new concept cars, such as the Volvo Concept Universe for example, are designed in China by Chinese designers, and all Volvo engines are Japanese. The Americans managed to ruin Saab, and now Volvo as well.
Volvo rules
I've just realised that Vicky actually looks like a sister of Viggo Mortensen (maybe it's that Anderson, Scandinavian ancestry...)
BTW:
GREAT FIFTH GEAR CAN BE NOW SENN IN HIGH QUALITY OR HIGH FIDELITY... brilliant.
One was tired of having to watch other programmes just because 5G looked like mobile phones videos.
nope drove a '07 Back when they came out... hugley disapointed.
diesel's don't have to be tested like cars do... and the european diesles are way cleaner then american diesles... 850R i think will remain the funnest car from Volvo but we'll see.
@sorenslothe Yep
Best Looking Volvo since the 1800! Forget the diesel yuck
I'm tweaking mine to 450hp as we speak
Howd that go for you?
ACE MEDIA still pending. Going to do the Polestar chip starting off.
Im buying one for the wife..but im getting the T5 version...anything i should know about these?
@@epicjourneysbritainireland9474 same question!)
@@epicjourneysbritainireland9474 idk if it helps but car cleaning guru has a T5
Why is she bangin on about redlining a diesel? I like Vicki's presenting of cars, but this was ok
Not a massive fan of the black bumper arches, I much prefer colour coding and not changing the back seems like a cop out when they have done a good job of the front.... It looks alrite!
why do you drive the diesel and then complain that it's not exciting enough? If you want exciting, then you should have driven the T5. That's why they make that one.
Couldn't agree more.
She nailed it Volvo dose make great cars... but theres no exitment past the styling... Volvo needs t oimport some Diesels to the USA, and they need there top modle to be able to race the varry top of the cars in questions segment. so the S40 and S60 aginst the M3... but will it happen? NO! Why? volvo and there Damn practicality. go ahead and keep your practical car but if there going to offer a R Design then they need to but a turbo V8 under the hood and give some life and fire to the chassi
Who the hell drives at 4500 rpm?????
At least in a diesel
Bad cut at 3:42 :-)
@michiel1551 anyone who doesn't want to be late?
When the Diesel started, I threw up in my mouth alittle.
you can compare a c30 to a VW golf or something like that but not with a scirocco ... I mean look at the price ^^
My friend in uni has one, R design too. Bastard.
I like this car, but in the US it isn't economical. it comes off as a fat, lazy, inefficient car. For the money one could purchase a Mini or a really nice upcoming Focus. They need to shed about 500 lbs from this car at least, and amp up the efficiency and performance.
why is that a floating console...?
look up floating in the dictionary and you will see that it really is not "floating". It would be nice if people would stop calling it that.
...it is a bridging console; or a thin console with a gap behind... or something; other than floating.
3:08 made me hot, looks like vicky knows how to hold it ^^
If only she turned the dstc off ! She would of had some fun then .............
@srt4crazy289 lets see you drive along when im driving a 335d on the highway... :)
I had drive this car but : the suspension are too soft and the sport suspension are too hard and you lost the funny dinamic of the car !
The diesel have the Double Disc Clutch that is completely ANTI-SPORT becouse you have a kick every change of gear !
I think volvo have a confused idea how to do a sport car !
Interior... you can' t see that !
go test a washing machine vbh. or build a car with your fem friends so we can review it. lovely car so just ignore this has beens view on it.
@MacGyver920 No the engine's is not chinese. Dude i work at Volvo, stop talking about stuff you don't know anything about like i said before. Please... Accept when you are wrong...
@MacGyver920 What are you talking about? Volvo is built in Sweden? Volvo is all Sweden it's owned by a chinese company.
Don't talk about think you don't know nothing about.
Volvo is designed and built in sweden the chinese company geely bought the company and just invests money in volvo and recieves profit
@slickvguy I was looking into this car could not find any infromation for Top gear apart from the one they will never make so i see this link and see this she made the car look shit this is a example showing that woman advertising car's is not a good thing.
Uk are 50 years behind in time.
WTF are you talking about
it's pronounced SHirocco not ssirocco
Fuck me that consol is noiiiiice
Why are you driving on the wrong side
If I'm completely honest. That back end looks like sh*t, but everything else is fine.
@MacGyver920 Dude, no. The ONLY engine that is built by Yamaha is the V8 No other. I can give you cred for that one. All the other engines are built in Vetlanda, Göteborg (Sweden) Now stop acting like you now a shit about Volvo.
i like the girl.........................
Just wanted to say that you are a really good looking woman and even if im maybe 15 years younger i find you pretty attractive. Thanks for the review!
i still insist that volvos are lame
The car is slow and she's just using a figure of speech, plus its a vampire ride, eww.
Volvo car with a garbage Peugeot engine 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
@ProXen4 Whatever. They're just pointless, boring pieces of Swedish/Chinese hardware anyway.
I clicked on this video, saw Vicki Butler-Henderson and clicked off.
