Thanks for the tips. It restores my hope in mankind that there are still people willing to take care of and maintain what they have. Value is not how much something costs, but how well you take care of it and make it last.
This hack really, really works! Thank you so much for sharing! I have kept celery fresh using this method for over 2 months...it's unbelievable, but it truly works!
I found this tip a while ago in another video - I wrap the celery in in paper towel then the foil. Celery from Kroger is not packaged in plastic. Also another tip about lettuce - the one that's already cut up for salad. After opening - line a plastic bowl with paper towels put in lettuce you didn't use - cover with another paper towel - put lid on bowl (burp it) it lasts about a week and it's not wilted. :D
We always say that everyone should see Yosemite National Park before they die. It's definitely our #1 choice for dramatic natural beauty, followed closely by Glacier and Zion National Parks (Zion was my first NP, so maybe I'm biased). lol But Yosemite can be very difficult to get a reservation (a victim of its own popularity). For relaxed dry camping in the open desert, we love Quartzsite, AZ in the shoulder season (around March or November) when the weather is perfect and it's not so crowded.
I too love celery and I also love hummus never thought to combine them though. Will have to try this. I usually eat my celery with lowfat cottage cheese. My favorite hummus is the Sabra Roasted Red Pepper. Thanks for the tip!
Does this work on other vegetables, like carrots for example? We've had a problem this summer with our fruits and veggies going bad very quickly. I'm going to have to try this out.
Thanks! We've got one ready for next week on the basics of how to hook up. Being an RVer already, you might not find that one so useful though. ;-) We also have a Trip Tip about the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, and will be replacing our skylight soon (on video of course). Not sure what else just yet, so stay tuned!
I once had some celery in my lunchbox at school once. I put it in my locker that I never used. Three months later, the water in the bottom of the bag was a bright fluorescent green color and the smell was horrendous. Yeah.
I've heard that it works for cucumbers, but honestly I haven't tried it on anything but celery so far. lol If you try it on anything else and it works, be sure to leave a comment and let me know. Thanks!
I don't know if this works for cucumbers, but I do know that wrapping cukes right out of the garden in dry paper towels and putting them in a plastic storage bag UNSEALED in your crisper drawer of the fridge works great....the cukes will keep for 2-3 weeks (or they did for me). We had a bumper crop and had to find a way to save them - I don't remember where I saw this hack/tip, but it works for me.
I hadn't thought about that actually, but I don't generally by the organic. But using the same celery I always used made a big difference, so I think it will make organic last longer too.

According to an old issue of Cook's Illustrated, this method works because foil allows the ripening hormone ethylene to escape.
Tried it... It WORKS!!! Thanks. I feel like I've struck oil in my backyard.
Great tip. Thanks for keeping the video brief.

liked the simplicity of your video. thanks
Thanks David! :)

Barbara Floyd Sabra Roasted Red Pepper from Costco rocks!!! :)
Thanks!! We also soak ours in distilled water.
I love your rv tips. Even more fun to watch while I'm in my rv. Any new modification videos coming soon?

I freeze my Celery diced up use it for just Soups & Stuffing mix freezing keeps it fresh for Months on end etc." Works for me."
any tips for iceberg lettuce? Great celery tip! Thanks
The only problem is that, now, in 2014, the aluminum foil used to wrap the celery costs more than a new bunch of celery.
Good point, although we try not to use an entire roll of foil. lol
That looked like a recycled foil anyway. And will probably wrap something else in the near future?
Buy it at a Dollar store may not be Reynolds brand but will work just as good I use it for Bar B Q grill works great and much cheaper etc
I get it at Dollar Tree.
Thanks! You just made my day. :)
Be sure to keep the plastic packaging on to keep the celery away from the aluminum. Then you can just get chemicals from the plastic instead. lol
Not sure is aluminum foil will work for lettuce, but we've heard it's good for cucumbers!

NOW THAT IS A GOOD TIP.
do you keep it in the plastic bag
Not necessary, but you can if you want to.
Maybe it's GMO celery? :) Have you tried it on organic??
I hadn't thought about that actually, but I don't generally by the organic. But using the same celery I always used made a big difference, so I think it will make organic last longer too.
Nice info .. unfortunately, aluminum use has been attributed to Alzheimer's disease.... so you'll keep it fresh, but forget where you put it!
Death to celery, it's evil stuff. Love humus though, especially homemade.
