Amber, The boys are listening to The Clash in the bedroom scene on an old Console combination Cassette Tape Player/Recorder, AM/FM receiver, Vinyl LP turntable sound machine. They specifically are using the Cassette tape player in this scene.I have had many like her in my day! Born in 1974
Haha! I thought it was so funny when she said what are they listening on, what kind of system is that? That my dear is what every household has in the 70's/80's for a sound system, in my house, born in 1970 ours was literally a whole piece of furniture in our living room like a big wooden console that housed perfectly all that and had the big speakers set in either end. I think my parents bought it all as one, also has the area to put all your records. Then of course on top my mum had family pictures a plant, candles ect.. 😂
@@julesb1970I grew up with a huge stereo cabinet too. Housed all the components of your sound system, with ample space for records etc. My Dad had an epic vinyl collection which is now mine. Literally every time I play a record of his, I think of that cabinet and that lounge room and yeah.... Nostalgia is sweet. That's why this series is so popular with us generation X people who were growing up in the eighties, like these characters. 😎
Amber- I love all the Rob Squad stuff over the past couple of years, and I'm so excited to see you branch out with this. Your mama heart is going to really respond to Stranger Things, and the Office episodes just get better and better: you'll love them! Have fun!!

If you haven’t already figured out (or learned about it somewhere else) Stranger Things is a mashup of 80’s pop culture from 4 primary influences: Stephen King stories/movies, Steven Spielberg films, John Carpenter movies, and Wes Craven films…some of which you guys have already reacted to (Carrie, E.T., Jaws, The Shining, for example…even the show’s title sequence is an homage to both Stephen King book covers and John Carpenter movie soundtrack music.) You guys also need to see the Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) films, as well as Firestarter (1984)

So many musicians and bands LOVE Stranger Things that even bands/ people who NEVER allow their music in movies or shows have given permission to play on the show. It has amazing music
Even with power shut down, land lines carry a little electricity in them so you could use it.
The copper lines used for traditional landlines carry electricity over the wires, so as long as a phone is corded or charged it will work during a power outage. Landlines are separate from cellular and broadband networks and are not affected by their outages, making them a necessary backstop in rural areas.
Short answer, yes. That could happen to a phone with a lightning strike. Technically. But we know the truth! 🙃🙂
@@gurulimbo yup - back in the day of phone lines and MODEMs and cheap $10 phones... we had a lightning strike on a tree just outside my house and it took out both my MODEM and phone that was plugged in to it.
Joyce went back for Will. She ran away from the monster, but she felt like she was abandoning Will. In the end the mother side won out over fear.

Steve's crew is THE WORST.
That wasn't a two headed dragon, that was (in the D&D world) the Demogorgon, a demon lord.
Random thought: now that you know the actor who plays Hopper, you'll see David Harbour everywhere. He has been in SO MANY movies. And you guys NEED to watch him as Santa in Violent Night this December!!!! PS They were listening to Should I Stay or Should I Go on a record player/stereo system.
I was 13 when this series is set in and it is probably one of the most accurate (minus all the crazy mystical stuff) of my childhood.
This show is such a nostalgia trip for me! I graduated from high school in the mid-80s. My friends and I played D&D. And the music!
I also love that it was filmed in and around Atlanta. I lived there for 10 years and it's fun to see places I know in the show.
And yes, lightning can come through on a landline. I remember my Dad yelling at me to get off the phone when a storm was rolling in.
4:08 I know when I was growing up we were told never to use the phone during a thunderstorm, but I’m not certain how likely it was.
It's that since the wires are ground or pole based, a lightning strike could hit the pole and surge any and all attached lines. I've seen lightning hit outside my window, the surge came up through the ground and struck my cable modem, my router and since I was wired to my desktop, it surged to the path of least resistance and ended in my network port on my desktop. Killed the board and power supply. And had to build a new one.
I had a phone get fried. It's freaky. Girl, you're not going to be able to stop. Good luck!!! I can't wait.
Same thing I was told when I was a kid to. I never wanted to find out
I remember back in the day my little sister was using a hair drying during a storm and it got fried along with the entire outlet it was plugged into.

The end credits song is The Bangles covering Simon and Garfunkel's "Hazy Shade of Winter." This cover wasn't released until years after the time the episode is set.
Will was listening to The Clash's "Should I Stay or Should I Go" bwfire he vanished.
I grew up in the 80’s and this show took me back. Oh the memories.
Re-watching is so good. You're the 3rd person I've watched react to this series, and you are by far the most perceptive so far. Can't wait for episode 3! 👏👏

I love this show. I grew up in the 80s and was pretty much a "Dustin" at that age, lol.
Well done Amber, I expected no less. I know you have 3 kids at home but the way you react with ohs and ahs pretty much let's people know you are a mother thru and thru.
@19:35 that was a Canadian band, Trooper, "Raise a Little Hell" 1978! They almost sound like Sweet!
Back in those days, a telephone received its power through the 2 wires in the phone cord. They did not plug into a wall, unless it had an answering machine. The power came down the wires from the switching station that was usually many miles away. A power outage had no affect on the phone as long as the line between the phone and the switching station was intact. The wires shared the the power poles with the electric wires. We used to call them telephone poles for that reason. They began burying the wires underground because they were so susceptible to lightning strikes.
Those copper coils inside the receivers were perfect conductors of electricity from lightning strikes. Those were the days when the telephone company would come out to replace storm damaged telephones. 😊
Love how they say "Lonnie's kid" not Joyce's kid, even though Lonnie hasnt seen Will in years.

Season 4 is my favorite season. It's the most horror feeling of all 4 seasons, and I can't wait til season 5 starts!

Did you notice when Joyce was in the car wanting to leave, the soundtrack was/is perfect…..”should I stay or should I go now” was playing…..and she stayed. Really enjoying reliving this with you. I won’t be surprised if you’re compelled to binge. I watched multiple seasons over a long holiday weekend to get caught up and continued. I’m curious about GOT and Breaking Bad too.

There are gobs of amazing references to 1980s stuff, both obvious and nonobvious.
The whole 'psychic girl who gets a nosebleed when she uses her powers' is a clear homage to Firestarter (but also has bits of Scanners and other shows)

Came here from Rob Squad reactions and your doing 3 of my top 5 all time favorites! The Office is hysterically cringey in the best way, Stranger Things is so well written and immersive and on that note we get to Game of Thrones which is 1 of the greatest shows of all time despite how people felt about the final season! It's also my favorite show to watch people react too!! Enjoy the adventure these shows bring and I'm excited to be a stowaway on your journey🙂

Joyce is behaving the way any reasonable parent should. Sadly, I'm not that kinda person - generally speaking, I find children annoying - but Winona Ryder as Joyce does such a good job at emoting, at making you feel Joyce's pain... that even I care. And the rest of the children in the show are such FUN, and smart, and mature. It's too bad all children can't be like them - not annoying 😂😂
This whole series is straight out of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, John Carpenter, and Steven Spielberg.
Walkie -Talkies from the 80's were a trip. Things got even Stranger in this one. I feel sorry for Eleven, I feel more for her character than the others. Dustin is the comedic relief and there has to be one in every show to cut the tension. Nice reaction Amber. The only other movie with another character named "Eleven" that I can think of is Specimen (1996), starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar from Saved By The Bell and NYPD Blue. It's a cheesy sci-fi flick, but I really like the alien aspect to it. You might want to check it out sometime along with Screamers (1995) with Robocop's Peter Weller, one of my favorite sci-fi B-movies.
Lightning can strike landlines and kill people. It's very rare, but my parents always told me to stay away from landline phones in our house during storms.

The part when Joyce is at home alone and gets messed with by the Demogorgan, that's what it's called in the show! Ok? When the wall bended it reminded me of A Nightmare On Elm Street at the part when Nancy is sleeping in Tina's room and the crucifix falls off the wall and Nancy gets the cross and lies down with it. And then the wall bends outward just above her in Tina's room cuz Freddie is peeking in on Nancy ? Stranger Things made me think of A Nightmare on Elm Street at that Part that made Joyce hurdle at break neck speed to her Green Pinto outside her house. I don't want to spoil too much for you on the show. That is the only freebie you gonna get from me cuz after you figure it all out as far as the concept goes, it is going to be mind blowing, trust me on that.
Amber, long time fan of you and Rob, I'd like to suggest a series I think you'd enjoy. "Travelers" from Netflix, its time travel with a mind bending twist! I love your new channel, good luck with it!
Matthew Modine, who plays Dr. Brenner in Stranger Things Starred in the movie called vision quest that you and Jay might like to watch when he was much younger It’s a wrestling movie, so Jay might like it.

Johnathan wasn't intending to be creepy, he was looking for clues at first, but he is a photographer by hobby. It is his art. To him, people are more honest about themselves when they don't know the camera is there. Due to how so many people have taken up photography for their perversion, it's definitely easy to see it as that.
Now, I absolutely adore Jonathan. I truly do. But he was being creepy. He noticed Nancy changing in the window and chose to take the picture. It wasn't an accident.

Ik you just started this and have 3 shows to boot, but i thought i could give you some show recommendations-- ik theres a chance you may of seen some so i came up with a small list of some of my top favs in the hopes you havent seen some and can consider adding them to your show reactions watchlist 😊😊

Supernatural (15 seasons is a commitment ik so i understand ), once upon a time,
The Originals-- (a spin off to The vampire diaries however its a stand alone u do not need to watch TVD first, altho tvd is a good show too, The Originals is darker and a better series overall, plus its a few seasons shorter, with only 5. ) -- criminal minds, parenthood, Manifest (on netflix) , the haunting of hill house and the haunting of bly manor ( mike flannegan masterpieces*) , schitts creek, Fringe, dexter, Bones, greys anatomy, shameless, the ghost whisperer, medium, saving hope (a canadian medical drama, but its so good!) And an oldie but a classic good fun time show to watch is The golden girls, no one ever recommends that. So yepp theres my recommends, hope theres some on here you dont already have planned or already watched. 😊😊

I watched a reaction to episode 1 and when the kids were playing D&D the reactor said " so Will is basically Gandalf ". I actually think he hit the nail on the head. Will is going to be the key in The final season.
Amber!! You should check out the Shannara books from Terry Brooks. The first book was The Sword of Shannara published in 1977 and just put out the final book. Another great fantasy series I think you'd love is by Terry Goodkind. The first book is Wizard's First Rule.

Def getting and trying to make calls were soooo different back then. Hated party lines, u pick up the line and ur neighbors were on, so u had to wait or ask them to clear line, ug, lol. My besties and I have been ride or d!e for over 45 yrs. I agree some friends r so important, our chosen family. How ever u choose to put them out Im so in. i know you want to attract more subscribers possible so you are reacting to multiple shows at the same time but if you release 1 episode of each show just once in a week (or even after more time) many many people will just check your releases once in a while, without subscibing.
