      @Carlium Рік тому +6

      @@bryansmith1404 It depends on location and demands.
      You can't just create a ton of businesses in an area with little to no demand. There's also distance to think about, if you have a specialized store on every corner, it won't be worth it, since not everyone will be buying something special all the time, and there's logistics businesses, creating outposts or offices closer together will reduce the area each has to cover, thus increasing the efficiency, but who are they serving, and does the demand live up to what they deliver?
      It costs to start up a new business or outpost, and if the demand isn't there, then it's not worth it to create more of those businesses or outposts simply because it's not profitable.

    Just that one tanker has the potential to increase petrol prices substantially for an entire suburbian region. Coupled together with interest rate rises, you have a recipe for disaster.

      It all comes down to cost. The general public can't afford to spend thousands on electric vehicles etc. Plastics are a byproduct of oil. What is the alternatives? And that is their goal, to cause fuel shortages at gas stations and general disruption to make people listen and demand more climate action from the government.
      But yes I agree it's about cost. So the government should raise the carbon fee and dividend if they actually want to reduce oil consumption. This would put money from the tax back into people's pockets. Or they could phase in the mandates for zero emission vehicles more quickly. Mate a single tanker is not effecting the oil prices that is total nonsense and vastly oversimplifies not just how markets work but specifically oil. A tanker is a literal drop in the ocean its like saying blocking a single truck of tomatoes will increase tomato prices across that region. It wont its not effecting the actual price but instead the ability to transport (on a tiny and brief scale/timeline) and then just like they have been doing for petrol prices for decades will use literally anything as an excuse to charge more then resist lowering the price again until absolutely forced to do so. It isnt that the prices went up but instead greedy companies see a opening to increase profits. Anyone who tells you a single tanker is that important in the supply chain is lying!

    I am not talking from a view of knowledge in this area but it will take us a long time to just stop using oil. I understand that there are a lot of ramifications when oil is used. However, currently we just don’t have a suitable alternative. Sadly, when we do they are just too expensive. Money and time needs to be spend carrying out research to find suitable alternatives which will not take a long time to roll out and at an affordable cost. A lot of thing that we use on a daily basis need oil. If we just suddenly stop it it will impact the lives of billions all over the world. It's been proven that the wealthiest use a disproportionately large percentage of all the carbon across the planet. I'd be more sympathetic if those people were the targets rather than ordinary people just trying to make a living. Oil isn't an inherent characteristic of a human being being oppressed by bigoted jerks.
      Oil is ITSELF required to create the technology necessary to end its use, and to stop global warming. If it suddenly wasn't available the world would no longer have the luxury of excess resources to deploy on long term change, nor the will to do so.
