Money and time needs to be spend carrying out research to find suitable alternatives which will not take a long time to roll out and at an affordable cost. A lot of thing that we use on a daily basis need oil. If we just suddenly stop it it will impact the lives of billions all over the world. However I wish we did not have such a huge dependence on oil. It is sadly a necessary evil for the foreseeable time. Or am I totally wrong in thinking like this?
I think you are completely right. I agree with what you've said, I know and understand that there are alternatives but it is, as you've said, too expensive. We need to wait for it to become a usual commodity before we could implement these more drastic changes.

Just stop oil = disaster. Don’t get me wrong, I do disagree on use of oil. Instead of coming together to protest and harass. Start a company that creates energy without using oil. Do something useful with your time
The middle class feels entitled to cheap petrol, cheap air travel, and cheap meat. Politicians won't implement climate action policies until they think the majority is willing to change their lifestyle.
Unfortunately, I think you're right, but like that oil tanker driver in the video, these types of protest hit the working classes attempting to do their jobs. It's not having any impact on the families flying away to their holiday homes in Tuscany. It's been proven that the wealthiest use a disproportionately large percentage of all the carbon across the planet. I'd be more sympathetic if those people were the targets rather than ordinary people just trying to make a living. Whilst I also accept that unless there's radical changes, everybody is going to be negatively affected by a massive amount. And like most things, the poorest across the planet will be hit the hardest.
Why should the middle class give up the highest standard of living humanity has yet known? Especially when hydraulic fracturing means there are hundreds of years of oil and gas in the ground. We should use these to boostrap civilization to fission and fusion energy, but we shouldn't strangle our energy supply now.
Oil isn't an inherent characteristic of a human being being oppressed by bigoted jerks. Oil is ITSELF required to create the technology necessary to end its use, and to stop global warming. If it suddenly wasn't available the world would no longer have the luxury of excess resources to deploy on long term change, nor the will to do so.
If they want to stop oil, why are they not collaborating to find out alternatives through research and development and then promoting and advertising a healthier, safer and better alternative as a group of protestors, instead of harassing the general public and wasting time.

it s the exact same process , that s why people funding those campaigns should arrested for funding terrorism !
These people makes all those homeless jobless guys that sleep on the streets look better,
I am not talking from a view of knowledge in this area but it will take us a long time to just stop using oil. I understand that there are a lot of ramifications when oil is used. However, currently we just don’t have a suitable alternative. Sadly, when we do they are just too expensive.
Heading to meetings by cars (which use/made by using oil), eating food which is transported by using vehicles (using or made by using oil)...when they do stop using oil, they'll be moaning about supply chains to the government...well done you tools.
Ironic that they are mostly elderly. Enjoyed the benefits of Oil their whole life, then when close to the end act all pius and righteous. Hypocrites
Actually your comment can be politely addressed. Most if the elderly people will have experienced a childhood during or at least just after ww2. If you imagine walking 10 miles to work and no food off ration with a handful if coal a week then compare to what you take for granted? Even I had icicles inside the house with frost inside the windows and that was 1960.
Exactly, also profiteered from the housing boom.
Imagine that witch telling u this is about children while stopping u seeing ur children, I’d straight out ask her how many abortions has she had.
*pious, not pius.
Wouldn't it be awful if one of these tanker drivers accidently lost control of his vehicle and plowed through a bunch of these "protestors".
Nahhh everything have consequences. I feel sorry for the truck driver though
Just stop oil = disaster. Don’t get me wrong, I do disagree on use of oil.
Instead of coming together to protest and harass. Start a company that creates energy without using oil. Do something useful with your time
Why do you agree? Show your evidence. (claiming ‘experts said so’ is not evidence btw).
All of a sudden a guy became sick & died after creating a car that runs on water…. Instead of oil. Weird isn’t it??
😂 ok KAREN
the middle class feel entitled to take everyone else's cars away you mean
You can't do it that way, it doesn't work. You have to force change down from the top

The second these nutters get violent they'll get beaten by the public
Every social change has to be obstructive or violent. They're no different than fighting for the rights of women, LGBT people, race, disability...
Or the black shirts, the communists and so on
Oil isn't an inherent characteristic of a human being being oppressed by bigoted jerks.
Oil is ITSELF required to create the technology necessary to end its use, and to stop global warming. If it suddenly wasn't available the world would no longer have the luxury of excess resources to deploy on long term change, nor the will to do so.
No
trying to force political change through the threat of violence is literally the definition of terrorism.

@@LaserBread Agreed
If theres no more oil then most machinery will cease to work after a while
That's a really basic understanding of it, but yeah, and many more issues.
If they want to stop oil, why are they not collaborating to find out alternatives through research and development and then promoting and advertising a healthier, safer and better alternative as a group of protestors, instead of harassing the general public and wasting time.
Anyone who says “just stop oil” reveals a level of ignorance that is incomprehensible.
The great thing about convincing yourself you're right is you only ever have to think one thing. It's interlectual cowardice.
How daft can someone get?

We are aware that Fossill Fuels are causing harm. BUT ,what is the alternative ? At the present there is no alternative.
One message: Just stop oil

Just to let you know that was very much not the plan, we got pinned down by a helicopter and 2 drones so the primary approach on foot got scuppered. @Andy Huckle what are you talking about ??
“Just stop oil” but they don’t come up with an alternative or a solution to it. And they wonder why the general public aren’t on their side
There's plenty of alternatives to oil. Electric cars. Hydrogen planes. Bio-plastics. The solutions exist, but money and politics are actively blocking change out dragging their heels.
Edit - transition to nuclear and renewables for the electricity
where does the electricity come from to power these electric car (and if you say wind and solar my next question is how do you charge then on a windless evening?). And that’s before to start rapeing Africa of it cobalt to produce the batteries. How do you make hydrogen and store it (i’m know quite a bit about this and am in favour with the use of wind power. Do know who did the most for the environment in recent years, the Chinese government and how they handed covid, stopped all unnecessary travel to and from work or country to country travel.

And the oil that lubricates the gears in those cars?
How about the diesel used to dig up the ore for the raw materials?.
Or the oil in the transformers on the electricity grid?
Even the coal in the steel?.

Well if we started throwing these climate activists into furnaces we could save a lot of oil , LOL !

Do these people know the amount of thing we use oil for all if the things we make that are made using oil like rubber tires, plastic and some of the parts in silicone chips in our computers and other smart devices.

I tried two petitions to parliament asking for standing charges to be removed from gas and electric, so using less cost less. Only a few hundred signatures. Protest needs a simple one message and these xr actions are doing the best they can. Of course not perfect. But neither are professional elected politicians.
Everytime i hear of their activities i buy a liter of gasoline to dump in the sea.

ironic eh? wearing clothes made out of plastic (at least their coats were) eating food produced and transported and cooked because of oil, even the building and furniture made from or built because of oil. No hypocrisy though. While I agree on less oil (we cannot live as a society without oil in total) there are ways and means rather than stopping the economy.
Firstly, they live in the world as it is. Secondly, do enlighten us on a better or more effective way to go about stopping the oncoming climate disaster.

Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Such shifts can be natural, due to changes in the sun’s activity or large volcanic eruptions. But since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.
