Prayer is human, we can use words and language, as indeed the infinite God allows Himself to be expressed in limited human language, especially as He has revealed Himself in Scripture. (Much as he has humbled and limited himself to be present in the Eucharist).
Therefore praying with scripture (lectio divina) is truly an opportunity to encounter the living God, an intimate dialogue: to hear and respond with trusting openness of heart.
Steps of Lectio Divina (organic movements to follow, not rigid steps):
    1. Lectio: What does the text say (in itself)?
For example, Mt 10:37-42 "Whoever gives a cup of cold water to one of these little ones..."
    2. Meditatio: How do I see God's love for me (in this passage)?
One can repeat the word or phrase that strikes you. I am a 'little one' that God does not overlook, and I receive God's special love through those little things others do for me.
    3. Oratio: What do I say to the Lord in response?
'Lord I am so thankful and grateful for the love you have shown, help me to be that instrument of charity to others.'
    4. Contemplatio: Resting in the loving awareness of the Lord's presence and goodness. Be generous with your time to just be with Him.
What conversion of mind/heart is he bring about in me?
    5. Actio: How am I moved to make my life a gift to others in charity?
Note: not just 'activism' and doing things - there are also spiritual works of mercy.
Mary is the supreme model of Lectio Divina: docility and openness to the word.
