I love my barn door…it’s simple…saves a ton of room and looks great…better than a plain door. I am noticing many on here saying they are outdated…mine is here to stay…I love it. Especially since a pocket door is not an option…just makes sense to me for me.

I love mine too! When it's the right solution and works with your style, it's always a keeper in my book! Thanks for the comment!

Not sure why these are/were such a trend. So I searched why are they popular and this came up. I like pocket door because it gets completely out of sight when not needed. Regular hinged doors are used as fire breaks as well as privacy. Seems like a barn door would let any smoke on one side of the door go right through to the other side.
I can see the ease of installation being a thing, as most door openings are not square, and each door needs to be sized and fitted for each opening if it's a regular hinged door. But a barn door wouldn't need modifications. But you can't lock them, like you can with hinges or pocket. Also, I've had a locked hinged door busted in on me by someone big who didn't think I should be allowed any privacy in a bathroom. Jerk. Pocket door gives me no more security than a shower curtain

Hey - Thanks for your comment! All good points. I agree, a decorative barn door is only really useful for visual separation. (There are industrial styles that can truly be barriers, but that's another ball of wax.) The hardware I bought had the option to include a hook to lock it. Unless you had a solid anchor into a stud, I think it would easily be pulled out. I opted to not include the hook at all.
