The fact that I started watching you over 5 years ago on the 5.3 teardown and rebuild videos to randomly seeing your recent videos looking for more info for my turbo 5.3 ranger shocks me. I think you had like 30k subs back then. Way to go man! Keep the info coming. You're awesome!
Incredible what the stock 5.3 crank can handle with a quality turbo pushing steady airflow without being peaky or overly sensitive to dome pressure changes.
That's super cool info and alot of hard work and punishment dished out by that built 5.3 of yours to set some benchmarks for your product. Great stuff great data great video.
Great video man! I didn’t realize how much dome pressure is needed to get above 30psi. With my s484 from forced inductions about 25psi i lost the 1:1 on dome pressure to boost pressure so i stopped adding dome pressure. This spring I will have to put 50psi to the dome and see what it will do. Keep up the good work man. My dad and I really appreciate and enjoy your videos.
We found not to rely on dome pressure alone. Do yourself a favor and put in a BP sensor, and then compare them. Keep going until you hit the point of diminishing returns.
Awesome finally someone gives a honest test with back pressure only thing could even remotely be better is similar test with LSA comparison on different cams for back pressure test thanks for a real tuner vid great info!
Maxing out the turbos almost maxed out the engine. After that last run, I'd want to pull the motor apart and see how all the bearings and everything else faired. I wouldn't be surprised if some head work is needed. The turbos did very well overall!
Great testing. Reveals the 96 turbine is not the cork in the system. It was people asking too much mass flow from a undersized compressor leading to extreme exhaust drive pressure. Of course, if we look at borg warner s400 compressor maps we can see the WHY for the results
Nice video, well done. I like your format. I would like to mention I’m not in love with whatever cam you have in there based on the results. But whatever, if it works for you then that’s all that matters. Keep up the good work guys.
A very good video. I would have liked to see the torque and horsepower lines cross at 5252 rpm and naturally the compressor maps for the turbos. Tuning on VE, the airflow is calulated and could be plotted onto them. :)
What a work horse. I was definitely expecting more of a difference in power numbers but I guess if the backhousing was similar If not the same then it makes sense
It shows on the dyno graph, granted each will be different from dead idle to WOT but on the dyno already up in the rpm it wasnt enough difference to matter on track
Not really since they didn't change turbine sides. Turbine side changes are the #1 cause of spool change, compressor side changes don't hurt spool much but can really affect the top end power limit, as seen here. Turbine changes massively affect spool and power limit. I run an 82x75mm turbine for maximum spool on the street on my 5.3l.
There will be a significant change in response rate from a 76mm to 88mm compressor on the street. For drag racing where you’re on a 2 step you won’t notice but street driving I guarantee you will.
That’s an awesome test. Nice work. Love the hub dyno. It don’t lie. We had one in the shop I worked at and it’s by far the only way to go. I’m in the market for a turbo here soon. I’m gona check you guys out. That 85mm would be perfect on my destroked 6.0. It’s a 4.8 crank with a 6.0 block .040 over. I think that would work just right for the set up. Going for a hi revving lil 334ci but I’m going powerglide. A th400 would be too much of a power robber for that set up. I’ve used many. But a glide is the way to go.
Hey I have a 07 tbss with a 416 lsx, afr 235 heads done by Tony mamo. The static compression ratio is 9.5-1. I have a huron speed t6 turbo kit with a s480 80mm work turbo 96mm exducer wheel 1.32 a.ron it now, I feel the turbo is to small for the ci.. what are your thoughts and if I were to step up to a bigger to how much bigger? An 88mm or bigger given the c.i.? Thanks hope to hear back.
Was waiting for you to break out of the Formal voice character lol not even a "eazy peazy and don't forget to get that V" at the end haha . Loved the video dude!
Awesome video, respect for all the work involved! Would really love to see the same test but with various turbine side changes. Would be a lot more work no doubt!
I’m building a 415/416 out of a L8T LT block what should I use if I go single turbo and what should I use if I go twin turbo. My goal is to see at least 1400hp. 60% street 40% track
I think you should of stated the back pressure numbers with each turbo as that is the true culprit of HP when sizing a turbo for LS. When you say max effort i feel like ur maxed out with backpressure and cant make more power as the engine is fighting it self.
Loved the video, I have a5.30I am doing a first time turbo om and would like to get some help on suggestion on waste gate and BOV size to use. I see you have BSI products WG and I am looking @ them . I have a GT45 E bay Turbo (T-4) was recommended a 60 MM waste Gate and 50 MM BOV does this sound correct? Thank You.
How bad will the back pressure be on a 11:1 408, Dart heads w/a FIS 91/102 T4 flanged turbo? Is there anything i can do..? Jose offered a V band exhaust housing, would that flow better? If so, I'll go ahead and get it. I know I'll be adding a 2nd gate, but other than that, I have no idea what to do or expect! Thanks man! Congrats at TX2K too!! Hopefully my motor and turbo will put me in the low 8's, w/o leaning on it hard!
350 427 cubes 86 mm is perfect smaller motors love twin 62s noticed once you get into the 500 cubes need a 96 with a 103 dual or a big 112 with a 120 back housing how snot rockets makes 3000 whp on to 76s is amazing
Like a 7875 is pretty much perfect for burnouts and icecream. To big exhaust side on these for a real fun street car, but the bigger is better for drag racing
question bro did u bore over this 5.3 or you just thru piston an rods i have iron block 6.0 bore over to 6.2 416ci with cp pistons and manley i beam rods and eagle crank ls3 top in with th400 from fti and ford 9" with 88mm from btr whts my power looking like?
@5:57 the graph on the dyno computer shows around 1050 hp at 5190 rpm, then you cut to a graph that shows you werent making that power until 6500-6600 rpm, whats with that.
I have a question, I’m building a budget lq4 6.0 with springs and sloppy stage 2 I got a cat c6 turbo for free from work it’s a 96mm turbine 1.72 ar housing T6 flange and 87 mm inducer and the 110mm exducer on the compressor, I know is going to be lagging as hell but do you guys think it would even be worth it, it’s a brand new name brand turbo it’s going in a 4000lb 4 door th400 3000 stall 3.73 gears and 31” tires 5:55
Do test with 76mm and 88mm at 15 psi and wow you'll have the same power it's when the the 76 starts running out of power the 88mm starts coming to life 76mm better for street and 88m is for track
In my opinion, you should have noted how much further the hp carried past peak. The average hp number means a lot more than peak.Overal, nice test on your products.
Ain’t nothing better than straight up back to back results on the Dyno.
Excellent test
That's an awesome test! Great results! That 5.3 banging out some horsepower.
Turbo John!!!!!!!! What’s up man. You’ve been killing it. Keep up the amazing work. Love the new car
I'd like to see the response difference between the turbos. To see how much a bigger compressor actually effects spool
Awesome video man. This helps big time in deciding what size to use. Love the channel keep it up 🇨🇦
Incredible what the stock 5.3 crank can handle with a quality turbo pushing steady airflow without being peaky or overly sensitive to dome pressure changes.
I was definately getting a little scared after that 🤣
@@Boostedlifestyle you did say in the video that you were seeing increased coolant pressure...
Oh frig yea I've been waiting for this videoooo. This is sooo much good knowledge and real life data! BSI/TNT the world!!!!
That's super cool info and alot of hard work and punishment dished out by that built 5.3 of yours to set some benchmarks for your product. Great stuff great data great video.
And on next episode.. we combine ALL the turbos.
On a honda

@@Sceviourzx3 good point I will definitely do that this winter.
Yeah like Nick said done pressure can vary depending on how big the top side of your piston is vs how big the valve is
Awesome finally someone gives a honest test with back pressure only thing could even remotely be better is similar test with LSA comparison on different cams for back pressure test thanks for a real tuner vid great info!
It is a testament to your engine building… most garage built motors would have blown up before you mounted the 2nd turbo
That's some serious numbers, dude. Proven top quality products!
I think it would be cool to your 88mm turbo vs other brands that are in the same price range
That is also not out of the cards 👀
Solid testing.. that ol 5.3 took a good packing that day lol. Impressive
Maxing out the turbos almost maxed out the engine. After that last run, I'd want to pull the motor apart and see how all the bearings and everything else faired. I wouldn't be surprised if some head work is needed. The turbos did very well overall!
Honestly I just have to either retorque the heads. Or put new headgaskets in it. Other than that ii think we golden
So is Retorquing the heads on an LS daily driver with 12 lbs of boost something you should do?
Great back to back review of the TNT line-up. Very scientific approach and killer results, Kyle. #teamraceteam
I love this sort of content keep it up big fan down here in Australia
Best comparison I’ve seen also wheel speed and back pressure would be nice. thanks
Great testing. Reveals the 96 turbine is not the cork in the system. It was people asking too much mass flow from a undersized compressor leading to extreme exhaust drive pressure. Of course, if we look at borg warner s400 compressor maps we can see the WHY for the results
How much of a difference would it make if you used a 6L instead of the 5.3??
Would you recommend a larger turbine?
Depends on a street car sub 1000hp I would use the 96. On a race car over 1000hp I would switch to the 103
Nice video, well done. I like your format. I would like to mention I’m not in love with whatever cam you have in there based on the results. But whatever, if it works for you then that’s all that matters. Keep up the good work guys.
Great comparison Kyle, keep up the great work!
Great video ! Buttttt there's more to it then just peak numbers. Would love to see the graphs overlayed on top of each other.
how this video doesnt have more views, it shows a direct back to back to back comparison of turbo sizes and their effects.
A very good video.
I would have liked to see the torque and horsepower lines cross at 5252 rpm and naturally the compressor maps for the turbos.
Tuning on VE, the airflow is calulated and could be plotted onto them. :)
Its a hub dyno, that's why it doesn't cross there.
Kyle you rock! Love the channel and content! Peace easy and get that v!
Very informative video that I didn’t know I needed to watch🎉
What a work horse. I was definitely expecting more of a difference in power numbers but I guess if the backhousing was similar If not the same then it makes sense
Exact same turbine wheel and housing for all four.
@@Sceviourzx3 I thought I heard that correctly
The best turbo for any engine is a True North Turbo!!!
Very cool!!! And a deadly format for the video awesome work pumpkin nuts
Fantastic info, thanks TNT boys!
best ive seen on youtube hands down
I no this nothing to do with it but how is the F1 car going on it looks class
There’s no way this hasn’t been hugely successful in getting True North Turbos more orders. Count me in!
It definitely helps 😁😁 come join the team
Tremendous contribution to the racing community! Wow.
Would be interesting to see backpressure levels at each psi and compare them to every turbo size
What about the response rate of each turbo. Obviously the smaller ones will spool/max out faster

20 lb of boost = 800 hp - looks great and would run all day - regular use many years of duty !
would be interesting to see a s491 or s494 in this test and then just a gt5594 to compare. ill send you mine if you wanna try it.

Can you list the back pressure VS boost pressure on the tests?
I have the data some where. I believe on the max effort runs we were right around 1.6-1.8 : 1 on most of the turns

So what would you use if you were running twins. I bought 66s with a 80 73 turbine with a. 91 ar and I'm thinking they might be lazy on the street
I Love your content keep up the good work.
Alberta boy. I just got a T6 turbo blanket from BSI
How do you have different back pressures if all the turbos have the same turbine?
What's the best turbo for an LS for someone who does a lot of neighborhood driving? Smooth, quick boost.
Depends on what youre really trying to do to be honest. We usually base turbo sizes on horsepower goals and future horsepower goals
Like a 7875 is pretty much perfect for burnouts and icecream. To big exhaust side on these for a real fun street car, but the bigger is better for drag racing
@Boosted Lifestyle Goal is to have an epic daily 😂 Drag times would be irrelevant. Definitely not for racing, either.

Shame that Mustang isn't it's original color, that was one of my fave colors for that stang.

@5:57 the graph on the dyno computer shows around 1050 hp at 5190 rpm, then you cut to a graph that shows you werent making that power until 6500-6600 rpm, whats with that.
The static compression ratio must be 9:1 or lower. That's a lot of boost for 900hp.
Keep in mind there are a lot of parasitic losses as well as drivetrain losses through the TH400 and rear end. Engine dyno numbers would be much higher
SN95 . was your car originally a v8 or v6?
That compressor is monster sized.
Thoughts on using a G42-1450 on a street 5.3 Miata swap? Good data here, thanks for presenting.
Stop saying, "thoughts".
What camshaft? Do you have the part number?
Dyno sheets don't show crossover at 5252. ....what gives?
What rods and pistons did you use?
I wondered if you were going to break it.
Not quite just floated the heads a little. It drove back into the trailer
What size of twin turbo do I need for the coyote 5.0 for 1000 hp
All the graphs rpm look to be off 1k rpm, hp and tq cross at 5252.
On an engine dyno, yes.On a hub/wheel dyno the torque convertor will skew these numbers due to the efficiency of said convertor.
