Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu is so underrated. Yakumo is one of my favorite anime/manga characters. He and this series will break your heart. The anime is so good. I got actual chills hearing Akira Ishida (Yakumo's VA) doing "Shinigami." Between this and Gintama (which, funny enough has its own . . . unique . . . take on "Jugemu" lol), he became my favorite VA (seriously, how is Katsura and Yakumo the same VA). I won't spoil it but omg I could rave endlessly about this series. Funny enough, I'm now interested in that Shonen Jump series because I loved Rakugo Shinjuu so much. I actually wonder if it inspired the new one. Man, I'm so excited at the idea this new Jump series will ignite more interest in Rakugo Shinjuu. I literally never see it in manga hauls or tours. You're actually the first one.
OMG WAIT!! Gintama is my favorite Shounen series and I did not make the connection of the Jugemu reference until you mentioned it 😭 When Kyubei recited the monkey’s name, so hilarious!! I also didn’t know that Yakumo and Katsura share the same Japanese VA. Such contrasting characters 😂 But Showa is a great series and I’m glad to hear your thoughts about it! I honestly didn’t expect anyone to talk it. I’m really enjoying Akane Banashi but it does give different vibes compared to Showa, a lot more lighthearted I would say. Definitely recommend!
I couldn't believe my eyes seeing Rakugo manga in one of the suggested videos thumbnails...as Tori down there has said, there isn't exactly many people who has picked it up. So I had to come here and watch:) I watched the anime when it was coming out and i'm so still whipped for this story so many years later. I think about it like, daily...I kid you not haha. Personally I have first heard of Akane Banashi thanks to Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu and I didn't get to read it yet but I am keeping my eye on it. Anyway, overall a very nice haul!

I can’t imagine watching the series while it was ongoing since I felt like every episode was like a cliffhanger 😭 I ended up binge watching the entire series in about week. The animation is amazing and the MUSIC (opening/ending themes) gives me chill. I hope you give Akane Banashi a try! It’s getting a physical English print next year. I would say that series is a lot more light hearted compared to Showa haha

The art is so beautiful!! I enjoyed Sweat and Soap and actually binged the series after giving it a second try too! Yes! Ladies on Top is really good. Love the steamy scenes and enjoy the fact that the main characters are adults!
A thing about kusuriya no hitorigoto/The Apothecary Diaries, in case anyone’s interested; there are both light novel and web novel. The light novel is licensed and translated into English by J-Novel Club. The web novel, which is free to read in Japanese on the author’s website, is translated by a fan. There are some differences between the light novel and web novel, for example the romance subplot (there is much more romance in ln, for better or for worse lol). The manga is an adaptation of the light novel.
If you liked Man and His Cat you might like She and Her Cat: Everything Flows. It's a quick one shot about an office worker's life as seen through her cat's eyes, it's super sweet and has a cozy, quiet feel to it
