I think the scaling problems comes from the fact that Affinity creates every layer by default as equivalent of Smart Object in Photoshop. After scaling back and forth it keeps all the pixel information.
Yeah I just ditched all adobe apps, will never go back. For a low cost I use affinity photo and Davinci Resolve, I wasted a lot of money on adobe for many years. You got a subscriber from Norway.
I did too, Affinity works just fine for me, Photoshop has tons of tools I don't even use and still have to pay for. Also for the price difference Affinity is a no-brainer to switch to from Photoshop.
All of our new Macs at our newspaper run Affinity - no Adobe at all. We made the switch permanent after a 3 year trial of testing the Affinity apps in a production environment. Price wasn't the issue so much as what can be done in as little steps as possible.
omg Newspaper!!! have been trying for months to transfer pshop skills to affinity (only aff photo for ipad so far) for newspaper production! some of the biggest challenges have been figuring out how to select rich black line art from comics and ads and make it true cmyk black (no color noise) which isn't easy in pshop either bc we're often getting noisy scans or noisy jpgs. if you have any insights i'd love to hear them! for images, our basic workflow is to take often crappy rgb jpegs and: rotate and crop and resize them (e.g., 5" wide at 300ppi) Increase canvas size for composites & collages, to add registration marks, etc Resize in inches AND ppi so it places on the page without too much re-sizing Adjust color balance and saturation both globally and by fuzzy-selecting target areas Convert to cmyk Fuzzy-select areas for Levels and other adjustments Apply filters to increase clarity, reduce noise, etc. Save as .tif with lossless compression (e.g., LZW) for emailing to layout artists
One of the fun things is that you can open up Publisher and work all of your layouts in Publisher and use all of the tools of Photo and Designer. Rather than jumping between programs.
I own all of the Affinity suite of programs for both Mac and iOS. I love the ability to start a project on my iPad and then move to my desktop. For illustrations I like Designer on the iPad with and Apple pencil but I also use Procreate which continues to get better.
i made the switch from photoshop to photo and illustrator to designer, but for now I am stuck with InDesign as it does not support footnotes or endnotes, which for me is currently a make or break issue. Apart from that Affinity is awesome.
I ditched Adobe for Affinity within a few weeks of Designer being released. There are still some tools from AI that I miss, but on the whole I’ve gotta say Affinity is EASILY worth the switch. And I will NOT be going back.
Thank you so much for this! Already use CSP for my digital art, but didn't realise there were viable non-subscription alternatives for photoshop and illustrator. Very nice to find quality products that don't add to the monthly expenses!
After 20+ years with Adobe, it only took a week of trying Affinity to buy it an ditch them, that was over a year ago. I retired a few years back and freelance now, mainly doing ad layouts for publications, newspapers, etc, plus the usual logo designs for the locals. Unlike you, I do almost everything in designer, the only time I use photo is if I'm actually working with a photo, and need to do something I just can't in designer. Some of the drawing resolution issues you experience in photo might be remedied by using the vector brush tool in designer, since drawing is what it handles best, plus everything you draw is vector, you have features to control flow and stability, plus it can be edited. It's stroke based so you can expand it and tweak to your heart's content. Play with designer more for stuff like that! It does a lot more than most think, I love it!
I found the vector brush engine to have some irredeemable quirks and artifacts, especially when I compared it to Clip Studio's which works much better for the sort of art I create.
That's why I love Affinity so much, in a world of subscription they're still buy-to-own. Also 2.0 just came out and everything is 40% off with a 30 day free trial, so it's a great time to try them.
A yearly rental of the Creative suite is more than my car insurance ... Nope .. Old hard drive with CS5 is on the decline ... I'm definitely not updating my new computer with more Adobe product. Screw em'
Clip studio is pretty amazing, but it just doesn't have that many useful effects etc for me but for Painting it is just right for me. I agree it would be brilliant if they improved Affinity's brushes. Missing animation / timeline is a big one for me but then again, I haven't got that in Photoshop as I am using M1 native. I wish all apps would have the CP Time lapse feature, Affinity would be even more wow then. Still using CC but I think this will be the last year for me but I still use After Effects / Premiere a lot and would still love to see some video features added to Affinity
Affinity video would be really cool. For now I'm using Hitfilm Express for video and compositing and I really like it. You have to buy certain add-ons separately, but I haven't spent more than like $60 on the program and it's not a subscription.
I have tried Affinity Photo, and it doesn't match Photoshop at all. For what 20 beers cost per month, 12 USD, I can have the Adobe Photo editing suite with all the best tools. As I repeatedly do not drink, I rent the Adobe apps for "free" ;O)
I did the same however getting customer service in Affinity leaves to be desired, so that explains why I had problems with the smoke brushes they just would not work.
I've been watching lots of switching over experiences lately since trying to avoid the Adobe CC... They hooked us from art school (Ringling / Illustration 2005) Now it's time to leave my beloved CS6 behind *sigh -and making the change has been extremely difficult --I was ready to give up and subscribe to the cloud, but instead found small solutions each day to the differences found in programs like Designer vs. Illustrator which I'd lived with for over a decade. So many answers either in the forums or on UA-cam so I def hope you'll make more videos on Affinity in the future; it's so helpful to find them as the community grows (: Thanks for this
So glad this was helpful! I definitely know what you mean by "they hooked us from art school" hahaha. Though by the time I was college-age, Adobe was up to creative cloud, so when I graduated I no longer had access to the free subscription.
I use Lightroom Classic (and get Photoshop on the go). Lightroom Classic is extremely important to me. Also I think After Effects is the King or Queen of programs creating effects. But otherwise I prefer the Affinity Suite. For the web I use Hype, in combination with Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher. For film I use Final Cut, Motion and After Effects.
I use a combo of Adobe Illustrator and Affinity Photo. Sadly for my vector work, Affinity Designer just doesn't cut it and I often find myself having to jump through hoops to do basic tasks.
Just recently started using affinity designer. I have been an illustrator over a decade. Love the illustrator program but hate paying every month for it so I stopped. Affinity Designer is fun to use but I agree that it lacks default brushes that I would like to have in the program. Just got a new project today, wanted to use Affinity since I bought it a few weeks ago, but being disappointed with the brushes moved my work to clip Studio. I have tons of brushes there that I like. I'll have to probably buy some brushes to use Affinity Designer the way I like.
@@madameberry I do most of my art working with vector brushes (so I can scale and easily edit things later if the client changes their mind about sizes). In CSP I use Flyland Designs brushes which are amazing, and I wish i had them in affinity designer. When I used Adobe Illustrator I use the varying width tool on my stroke and it is a fast way to get the thickness of each stroke just the way I want on the fly. I wish that was an option in Affinity Designer if it is I haven't found it yet. the tool allows you to just drag in an area on the stroke (beginning/middle/end) you want to make it thicker or thinner. Please let me know if you know of a way to do this without having to manually go to the stroke menu and adjust settings each time. I am using affinity designer on my current project I gave it another go. Also I wish the pencil tool would auto close the shape without having to the node tool and then selecting close curve, every time :(. I am guessing I'll be using CSP at some point to finish my project but for now I'll keep giving AD a try. I do love the option to create the palette from the document. The client sent over some work partially completed and wanted to use the colors already present in the other artwork and this was a quick way to grab the colors I can use in the art.
Been there, done that so to speak. Ditched Adobe a good few years ago. Went over or rather back to CorelDraw initially esp as CD X6 offered upgrade pricing for Adobe CS users when CC came out. Then guess what? Corel became more Adobe-esque with regards to subscription and price increases. I remember downloading Affinity Designer shortly after its release and have not looked back. Now an avid user of Photo and Publisher as well.
Yeah, I always fear with a new technology that they might eventually become a subscription model. The Affinity team seems to really look out for the art community though, if their current promotion is anything to go by.
Right? IDK why it took me so long to switch. Hitfilm has been really nice too! It's been a lot more intuitive than DaVinci Resolve, which I tried briefly last year.
If drawing is the main reason you use Affinity Photo for , then you should give Krita a shot. It's brush engine is leagues ahead of Affinity, probably even better than Photoshop. Also Krita is free and open source, support non destructive editing, and other features you would not expect a free program to use.
I assume you're referring to image trace? Probably Inkscape. Unfortunately that feature is lacking in Affinity Designer, but thankfully Inkscape is free.
Would love to see more affinity videos as you play with the programs more. I used to use photoshop for editing emotes (scaling), minor graphic design for posting commissions and for stream. I need another program to replace it and have been thinking of affinity. Also, clip paint studio videos please!!! I’m a paint tool sai artist who is trying to switch to clip studio. I would love to see your tips and tricks.
I've got a Clip Studio tips video in the works!! It sounds like Affinity would be a really good replacement for PS given what you use it for. Their 90 day trial is still going so you'll have plenty of time to test and make sure though. 😃
@@ReadingsByMaevyn Photo would probably work best for you, since you seem to be mostly doing image editing and not vector design (though Photo can still do a small amount of vector design too if you need a little bit of that)
I'm first start using Publisher. I think that software has best feature then you can make basic photoediting in layout software without open photoeditor. InDesign not have that feature. I'm also happy that Photo can use Photoshop filters, I got gmic plugins. My opinion is that Designer is weakest software of these three. And videoediting side I use Resolve, when it comes audio and effects in same software with best color tools than Adobe. And Darktable when I have edit many photos, Opentoonz to animation and now I learn Blender too.
@@madameberry Well it not has image trace, perspective grid, shape builder, mesh warp and chart tools exempel. But I'm more photoeditor or I make layouts so those are not big problem to me but it can be big problem them who work now in Illustrator and wondering to leave from Adobe.
Adobe’s pricing hurts my soul 😂 I agree that Photo/Designer are great software and that neither is ideal for freehand art. Designer works well for vector/raster combinations. Clip Studio looks brilliant.
Is it frustrating having to get two programs to effectively replace one? A little. Is it super satisfying to not be shelling out money to Adobe every month? Yessssss lol
And since your video published Adobe's basic photography play has doubled in pricing. I am here watching your review trying to find a better alternative as a freelancer.
to replace Premiere, after effect and audition , i heard that Davinci resolve ( i think thats the name if im not mistaken ) can replace these 3 software !
I had Adobe Cloud for almost four years. I just got rid of all Adobe products because of their unacceptable business practices, and because of poor Photoshop (Ps.) performance. I bought Capture One (C1) which is a fantastic editor. But it doesn't do everything. I'm also going to try Affinity and Luminar Neo. No monthly subscription fees. C1 has fantastic color. It's a lot better than Ps. I particularly like how C1 renders skin tones. C1 edited files printed on Hahnemuhle pearl or Canson luster papers look out of this world. I can't speak to Affinity colors as I haven't tried it yet. I'll have to test out Affinity. Also, I use the Topaz Labs Gigapixel, Noise AI, and Sharpen AI. Affinity would have to be compatible with those.
I do! My opinions are largely the same as this video, which is that I still prefer CSP's brush engine, but love affinity for non-drawing tasks. The biggest change is that they're now owned by Canva, which I do not like, but so far Canva has not changed anything about the Affinity software suite or its pricing model.
I've been using Designer's vector persona a lot for my art recently. Idk who replaced me with a doppelganger who likes using vectors but it's kinda been my new favorite thing 😅
Also, there is no ‘File, Open in...’ on the iPad version. Can you suggest the best way to open a Designer file in Photo on the iPad? I am a bit slow with this stuff.
I'm not sure what you're asking. Publisher is for books and pamphlets and such. DaVinci Resolve is a video editing program by a totally different company.
@@madameberry what is DaVinci for publishing but what you use for DaVinci what what is it for I heard it cost over $1,000 for a DaVinci I have no idea I just heard DaVinci let me know what DaVinci is
On system that runs Krita, Clip Studio Paint and Photoshop brushes fine, even with "bigger" brushes, Affinity runs abysmally bad despite optimised settings. Even Affinities basic brushes have significant lag! On my system (Dual Core 2.4 Hz, 16 GB Ram 64 Bit, even the resources hungry Photoshop is running 3 times faster!
@@madameberry First, I thank you for your response 🧡 but I don't expect you to solve the problem! However I would love to see Affinity become a real alternative to Photoshop and I have a feeling that my problems are due to a bug or very specific conditions or settings Affinity needs! That's why I describe in more detail, in the hope someone who experienced the same has a solution! Kind regards Thomas. The situation now: First layer on brush first strokes, open glide not activated, 8 GB ram dedicated to Affinity, no other program active. My system a bit old and small: Dual Core 2.4, 16 GB ram, average hard-disk (120 GB Ram, enough remaining space, Win 10 Pro, all Windows settings cater to software performance i. e. all Windows effects are deactivated! It manages Photoshop after several hours painting and still allows for even more elaborate brushes! My hunch: maybe Affinity's requires initially more capable hardware, while others programs are more don't? As it is, on my system Affinity is a patient that can't even have visitors because it is too weak, while Krita, Clip Studio Paint, and Leonardo are doing just fine and Photoshop, as long as one doesn't produce mountains of layers works reasonably well: It can't climb Mount Everest, but it can mak several hours walks in the hill country! That baffles me! At least Photoshop and Krita should have the same problems as Affinity if it WERE my system! Keep up the good work!
I might be misremembering, but I recall a recent update increased the minimum system requirements, unfortunately. I hope they continue to work on performance issues as well as features, because I would love for adobe to stop having such a chokehold on the art and design industries.
@@madameberry Then we are two >;-))) Incidentally: I quit Photoshop a few days ago😉 I think Photoshop has contributed a lot and I don't regret the time I used it, but most things I do can be done with the software my camera maker provided with the camera. The permanent flood of new features doesn't allow to familiarise oneself as one would wish! It sets standards but to retain its users it has to change! The likes Krita, Clip Studio Paint and Affinity show how it can be done! Despite the fact that on my system, as of now, Affinity looks like a failed Photoshop, I can see in the many videos of exited users, that it is a serious contender! A big thank you for taking so much time to respond! Kind greetings from Hamburg in Germany! 🚢
@@madameberry Because you responded so kindly I’d like to let you know, that I have found a solution! After creating new documents, Affinity didn't respond to brush strokes. It complained that the current layer wasn't pixelated. But offer no option for a correction. When I created a “first layer it offered to rasterised the layer . Then I used the “Paint Brush Tool”. It allowed for strokes of ~ 10 to 15 mm, before the strokes either “broke up” or got extreme lag. Last night I tried to use the “Pixel tool”. The immediate effect was a. I didn't have to rasterise the layer because (as described in videos) Affinity responded to my first stroke by converting the layer into a pixel layer! b. On a hunch, I closed Affinity after that, opened it again, and chose the “Paint Brush Tool”, and voila, Affinity pixelated after the first stroke! Now, Affinity is not as fast as Krita or Clip Studio Paint, but it comes close! There seems to be a bug in the current version! (I will inform Affinity) Thanks again for taking so much time!♥️
I honestly haven't used lightroom. Back when I used Photoshop, it was for digital painting. Now that I have to edit product photos, I've stopped using Adobe. Maybe I should be grateful I have no basis of comparison on that. 😅
Clip Studio is amazing. The Affinity stuff, not so much. And the features in Affinity software do not put them almost on par with industry standard. Not even close as far as I can tell, and I've been a user of Serif product for probably 15 years. The Affinity software is one step forward and one step backwards. Meaning, there were a lot of features in the old software that did not make it into the new software, while the new software has newer, different features. Adobe has it all though. That's what you're paying for. Having it all.
I'm sorry you found Affinity lacking in what you need. Lots of artists, myself included, have no need for the vast list of features in top-of-the-line enterprise software, so for a lot of people, Affinity is exactly what they need for a price they can actually afford.
I don't work in 3D so I don't have much recent experience, but I know lots of people have been moving to Unity and Blender. Illustrator can make some 3D shapes, which is neat for making graphic design elements with wireframes, but Affinity Designer has no such capabilities unfortunately.
I switched to Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 3 years ago. DO NOT REGRET it at all. AD is sufficient for all that most designers need. Adobe is a rip off... plus you get all kinds of bugs. No Thanks.
2:45 the maths everyone uses in these videos is out. I use the photographers package and get 2x programs installable on TWO computers. One on my powerhouse windows desktop system, and the other on a MacBook Pro when on-site or travelling. Lightroom’s cataloguing, as well as some of the 3rd party plugins have features I can’t find replacement programs for on either platform. That said all of these plugins work perfectly on the pre subscription model versions, so the subscriptions are simply parasitic leeches on our bank accounts.
For a video editor, I've been using Hitfilm Express. I've also heard a lot about DaVinci Resolve from people who like it, but I could never get the hang of it.
@@madameberry Yeah, I had issues with Davinci. I'm so use to Premiere Pro's set up that it's hard for me to adjust with DaVinci. I'll check out Hitfilm Express and see how that is. Thanks! :D
Wish I could switch to all the Affinity Apps but the devil is in the details. I think they overhype themselves, and it will be quite a few years before they become even close to a substitute for Adobe, if then. I am too often frustrated trying to do basic tasks, quickly. The Affinity Suite superficially looks simpler but has annoying deficiencies and quite a few of their actions require more and slower steps to do what you can do with the Adobe Apps. They lack support for various file formats that I use, jpeg 2000 and HEIC with Alpha in particular. There appears to be absolutely no intention, that I can see, that that is going to be corrected. Also there are annoying pointless differences to absolutely standard shortcuts that constantly catch me out. Who uses cmd j for duplicate? WHY???? That it is NOT subscription IS their greatest plus, but if i can't do my work that is also an ongoing cost. I use multiple alternative Apps which all have their shortcomings but make up for it in other ways. I am hard pressed to think of anything in the Affinity Apps that makes up for its too often obtuse clumsiness, and am astonished how often I have to spend hunting for ways to simply get out of something or find the tool or method to get basics done. Also I am surprised how often you are thrown into a dialogue to complete an action that should have been able to be done directly in the UI. I go in their forums but all that does is either silence, responses from people who obviously don't know professional graphics (being cheap means Affinity gets lots of amateurs) or an initial wrong response and then the silence. I will continue struggling with Affinity but it is far too much hard work for me to go crazy and say bye bye Adobe.
From my understanding, cmd j (or Ctrl j since I use windows) is pretty standard. The more I use Designer in particular, the more I wish it had some of illustrator's features... but not enough to resubscribe to Adobe. For a professional, I can see where Affinity would be seriously lacking.
Cannot disagree more. Photoshop is irreplaceable. I did try Affinity once and could not even see how people compare. I am a professional and PS has features that no other software comes even close to have. I do feel that the price I pay is worth it. It is obvious that non pros will not need it and can use lower level programs.
I think the vast majority of people who use Photoshop don't actually need Photoshop, but for a professional yeah I agree. Photoshop, Lightroom, and even Illustrator (for a comparison with Designer) have some features I even haven't been able to replace. But someone who digitally paints and maybe does some light photo editing and vector work like myself will save a ton of money moving away from the Adobe suite.
I noticed that you use Windows instead of Mac OS. The last 10 years (kind-of like Adobe has) Apple has become a company of Nazi's making their computers and platform walled off from DIYers and Moders who want to mold their own unique solutions out of their Apple computers and Mac OS. While Microsoft isn't much or any better in a number of ways at least you can save A TON of money using a Windows system over MacOS AND you can customize it in a way that;s unique to YOU and ADDITIONALLY you can UPGRADE them in the future with new processors, RAM, hard drives etc to further extend your original investment in the computer. I'm seriously thinking of switching to Windows 11 Pro...
@@madameberry Do you mean that the visual design of the user interface in Windows 11 is very Mac like? I would 100% agree from what I've seen of it--that's also part of the reason I'm considering switching. Windows 10 and previous version were pretty ugly in terms of the interface but version 11 is actually really visually pleasing. Not quite as nice as the MacOS but really close to as nice--plus you get all the other benefits of using Windows...
No, I mean that Windows has been slowly enforcing what they think are the "correct" software settings and making it harder (but not yet impossible) to access and modify certain settings.
@@madameberry Yes I know Microsoft is basically as bad as Apple BUT at least with Windows systems you can save A LOT of money vs. Mac systems on the initial purchase PLUS you can custom configure it anyway you want for cheap. It used to be the case that Apple systems had a good amount of expansion possibilities but for the last 5 years they;ve just shut that option down almost completely. This said I do love the visual design of the Mac OS and the way system files are organized but just not sure any more if its worth continuing with Mac OS for these reasons when there are so many compelling advantages to Windows.

@@madameberry No actually it was about me comparing csp with affinity. I followed you because I too use affinity for my work. It had happened to me on other channels and mostly it happens when you have some filter set in place and it removes the comment if that comment contains any of those words, they also leave subscribers with no choice but to unsubscribe. If it was intentional it is completely understandable because many youtubers filter comments when they are doing paid promotions and delete them too. If it was unintentional it is still all good, at least unlike other youtubers you reached out and clarified. It is your channel, run it as you want it, you dont need to apologize for anything. @@Debbeh @Debbeh I know how you feel but no need to worry Affinity photo resembles Photoshop so much there's not a steep learning curve it's really easy to pick up also most if not all of your photoshop brushes should be compatible and if not there are lots of tutorials to show you how to convert those brushes in to Affinity brushes. And yes all of these companies now a days gaming software, movies everything is becoming subscription based to make sure customers are continuously paying never owning anything it's a disgusting business model. If you're looking to replace Lightroom ACDsee has a great option with 1 time payment and if you're looking to replace After Effects DaVinci Resolve is a excellent alternative the free version is just as powerful as the paid version with no watermark also no trial period you can use it as long as you want check out the Blackmagic design website. If you need any advice you can always reply to this comment and I'll try to assist happy editing!
That’s awesome, I always wondered how affinity was stacking up in a professional production environment. Affinity are such an underdog
omg Newspaper!!! have been trying for months to transfer pshop skills to affinity (only aff photo for ipad so far) for newspaper production! some of the biggest challenges have been figuring out how to select rich black line art from comics and ads and make it true cmyk black (no color noise) which isn't easy in pshop either bc we're often getting noisy scans or noisy jpgs.
if you have any insights i'd love to hear them!
for images, our basic workflow is to take often crappy rgb jpegs and:
rotate and crop and resize them (e.g., 5" wide at 300ppi)
Increase canvas size for composites & collages, to add registration marks, etc
Resize in inches AND ppi so it places on the page without too much re-sizing
Adjust color balance and saturation both globally and by fuzzy-selecting target areas
Convert to cmyk
Fuzzy-select areas for Levels and other adjustments
Apply filters to increase clarity, reduce noise, etc.
Save as .tif with lossless compression (e.g., LZW) for emailing to layout artists
I haven't worked in comics or news print, so unfortunately I don't know a good workflow for that. 😅
Truly wonderful and educational presentation. Thanks for your honesty and professional attitude. And Affinity Photo on my M1 Mac Mini is stupendous!
I got me affinity publisher, affinity design, Krita and recently clipstudio for drawing. I'm so damn good to go.
One of the fun things is that you can open up Publisher and work all of your layouts in Publisher and use all of the tools of Photo and Designer. Rather than jumping between programs.
Really? The tools are just as robust when using Photo/Designer Persona in Publisher? That's super impressive.
Your last sentence in that paragraph; truer words were never spoken, my friend !
@@madameberry I might have to play with that one... Always like playing with different software.
I've got a few videos on it if you're interested. The intermediate one shows off the brush engine, I believe.
Any apps with a subscription fee is already a deal-breaker for me
That's why I love Affinity so much, in a world of subscription they're still buy-to-own.
@@madameberry Hitfilm express, will check it out - thanks for that
Sadly, they have said they are most likely not gonna be making such programs.
Fantastic overview, thank you. And I’m amazed at your eloquence for a video that seems unscripted
Oh it's definitely scripted 😅 if I don't script my videos I lose my train of thought every 6 seconds
Glad the video was helpful!
@@madameberry Well, kudos on the delivery then. In many scripted vids, you see the person's eyes move left to right as they "talk" to you 😂
I've been watching lots of switching over experiences lately since trying to avoid the Adobe CC...
I've never worked a ton in vector so I wasn't able to compare well with illustrator, but there are definitely features I hope Affinity adds.
What sorts of brushes do you use in illustrator?
Ah, I don't know too much about the specifics of those tools in Affinity Designer, but at least CSP is working out for you!
Am using all three of affinity. Thanks for the video.
Love Affinity and HitFilm! Moving away from Adobe was one of my best financial decisions of the past few years
I haven't tried Krita, but I switched over to Clip Studio Paint for drawing.
Yes...KRITA ROCKS !!
What's the best alternative for auto tracing tool in illustrator?
I assume you're referring to image trace? Probably Inkscape. Unfortunately that feature is lacking in Affinity Designer, but thankfully Inkscape is free.
The studio link is amazing!
@@madameberry Do you know which Affinity in specifically would be good for what I described? poggies!
@@ReadingsByMaevyn Photo would probably work best for you, since you seem to be mostly doing image editing and not vector design (though Photo can still do a small amount of vector design too if you need a little bit of that)
@@madameberry Thank you so much!!
What makes you say Designer is the weakest of the three programs? I don't know much about it, but I've been enjoying using it so far.
@@madameberry Well it not has image trace, perspective grid, shape builder, mesh warp and chart tools exempel. But I'm more photoeditor or I make layouts so those are not big problem to me but it can be big problem them who work now in Illustrator and wondering to leave from Adobe.
Ah that makes sense. Thank you for the info!! 😊 Hopefully Affinity will add some of these things soon.
I don't speak English but I could understand every words you said, amazing。
Adobe’s pricing hurts my soul 😂 I agree that Photo/Designer are great software and that neither is ideal for freehand art. Designer works well for vector/raster combinations. Clip Studio looks brilliant.
Is it frustrating having to get two programs to effectively replace one? A little. Is it super satisfying to not be shelling out money to Adobe every month? Yessssss lol
And since your video published Adobe's basic photography play has doubled in pricing. I am here watching your review trying to find a better alternative as a freelancer.
Wow has it??? Yikes adobe.
All i use is Affinity Photo and Davinci Resolve and i am happy
I switched, my only hang up is no .dds support.
i needed adobe’s exact layer styles recently and krita’s implementation didnt pass muster so i was stuck
interested
I haven't used much of Krita. Affinity has a really nice 90 day trial offer right now so it's the perfect time to try it!
to replace Premiere, after effect and audition , i heard that Davinci resolve ( i think thats the name if im not mistaken ) can replace these 3 software !
Yes, I've heard people have great luck with that program. I didn't like it so I use HitFilm Express now.
Thank you! That was super informative
I imagine when you made this video the Affinity apps were all version 1, and version 2 has now been out for a couple of years. Do you still like it?
I do! My opinions are largely the same as this video, which is that I still prefer CSP's brush engine, but love affinity for non-drawing tasks. The biggest change is that they're now owned by Canva, which I do not like, but so far Canva has not changed anything about the Affinity software suite or its pricing model.
If you want to draw/paint with affinity it's better to use affinity designer pixel persona but clip studio is definitely better.
I'm sorry, I don't have an iPad. I wish I could help! Maybe you could find something on the support forum?
@@madameberry yes, I’ll get onto them. Cheers.
Tap the + (top right on the main screen) and select ‘Open from Cloud’, or wherever your file is stored.
Thanks for the vid!
Do I still need DaVinci or would the publisher will get onto itself onto the internet
I'm not sure what you're asking. Publisher is for books and pamphlets and such. DaVinci Resolve is a video editing program by a totally different company.
@@madameberry what is DaVinci for publishing but what you use for DaVinci what what is it for I heard it cost over $1,000 for a DaVinci I have no idea I just heard DaVinci let me know what DaVinci is
DaVinci Resolve is for video editing and it's totally free. I don't use it but I know people who do and they like it.
I'd love to see a Clip Studio tutorial, yes :)
I've got something in the works, currently being scripted! =D
Resolve for video editing is free and beats Premier hands down.
I couldn't get my head wrapped around Resolve, but I've been having a great time in Hitfilm Express.
Please more trading on all 3 products
You hate vector? Oh man! You need to learn to like it. Once you do, there's no turning back.
I've never had that problem unless I stack multiple live filters on top of each other, which is a bad idea lol
The situation now:
First layer on brush first strokes, open glide not activated, 8 GB ram dedicated to Affinity, no other program active.
(I will inform Affinity) Thanks again for taking so much time!♥️
As much as I like affinity photo, Lightroom is simpler to use for a lot of things.
I honestly haven't used lightroom. Back when I used Photoshop, it was for digital painting. Now that I have to edit product photos, I've stopped using Adobe. Maybe I should be grateful I have no basis of comparison on that. 😅
thx
Left Adobe years ago
Saved a fortune
What about 3D?
I don't work in 3D so I don't have much recent experience, but I know lots of people have been moving to Unity and Blender. Illustrator can make some 3D shapes, which is neat for making graphic design elements with wireframes, but Affinity Designer has no such capabilities unfortunately.
I’ve only ever done light 3D modelling and adjustments on PShop. Maya and Blender are what I tend to use. I used to use Cheetah 3D back in the day.
Lol got a photoshop ad on this video
#TEAMAFFINITY
@4:57 did she really just say that lol @4:58
I saw this comment and was like "did they have a problem with something I said?" *Clicks on the timestamp* "Oh. Yeah that tracks." 😅
i prefer macromedia
To bad they don't have something that looks similar to Premiere Pro. This looks a lot like Photoshop!

@@madameberry Where is it "standard"?
cmd/ctrl d is the standard duplicate shortcut for _obvious_ reasons.
Ctrl D is deselect, Ctrl J is New Layer Via Copy, according to the Adobe help site: helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/default-keyboard-shortcuts.html
Goodbye Adobe
Tbh, Windows is slowly becoming more like Mac, at least on the firmware/software side. But being able to upgrade parts is so nice.

The most frustrating part is I looked to see if I have any filters, and the most I have checked is "hold potentially ab*sive comments for review" but idk what they classify as ab*sive, and nothing is in my "held for review" tab anyway. 😩
I used to make games before I burnt out and switched industries, so that's really cool to hear! =D
