This guy could make a video about a sandwich and I would watch it. Yet another entertaining video 👍🏼
That sandwich has a nice image quality.
That raises the question... What sandwich DOES John prefer?? Olaf needs to make a new video😉
Not only the price, but a lot of people have neighbours
@@9hundred67 I had to move into a rental house in January because my last apt. of five years was a total no-soundproofing nightmare. The place was an utter joke.
I got complaints just turning the TV on. I got sick of it real fast, and I'm an audio nut. Problem solved. Moved into a small old brick house and I haven't had
any issues, the sound doesn't really bleed even cranking the guitar or heavy metal, whatever. But I also use a lot of headphones as well.
This is quality content.
I always feel like I learn something when I watch your videos, thank you.
Nicely done, love the little touches like shots of how the cup gimble/swivel works. A very clear, nuanced review, and for that, sir, I thank you :)
Thanks for the tip on the Orb album.
Fine work by you, as usual.
Now I really want to hear those Finals. Another great vid🎧
Watched that many Darko vids I now blink along with the intro.
I am so glad you reviewed these! I have been a big fan of Final for a while now. I can't afford these particular headphones from them just yet, but everything I have bought from them so far has been brilliant.
One of the most addictive headphones in all of audio. I love these headphones. Extremely fun and punchy as hell. Great video John!!
Your videos have the best presentation I've come across on UA-cam 👌
Thanks for an excellent and thoughtful review!
what a great episode and i get to pay for the privilege of checking out the playlist. these are indeed Dark(Oh!) Days. thanks...
Great to see you reviewing headphones. This is the second or third time you've compared Meze headphones to the type of sound someone could expect to get from Harbeth speakers. As someone who only recently discovered how good Harbeth speakers are, I cannot wait to try them at the next CanJam, which unfortunately will not be until later in the year.
I love Meze Empyreans (insight and lack-of-fatigue and spaciousness), but never like Harbeth that much (seems to lack detail like there is a filter between me and the music).
I dont use headphones and that is unlikely to change, but I am always blown away by the production values of JDs vidoes. Just excellent work.
Headphones looks awesome, John. I'd probably love them. 😁 Great breakdown regarding the driver created in it. Really cool stuff. Good review, John. Really enjoyed this one. And it does depend on music; regarding the tuning of the headphone or iem.👌🏼✌🏼
Great review . Glad you compared them to the Meze.
Fantastic sound, quality of the headphone and cables are superb.
Hey John! Long time lurker, first time in the comments. Love your outlook on audio and your music tastes. It's a toss up between you and Josh Valor as my favorite reviewers :). One thing that you brought up in the video is how the D8000s wold be great for people looking for more bass, which is me! I'd love to see a video where you group some of your recommended sets into categories like bass focused, vocal focused, sound stage/live focused. Not a what's best for each category, just some recommendations that I could focus on trying to audition. Thanks for doing what you do and keep up the good work!
Time to sit back with cup of coffee and watch another video of John Darko by far the best part of the day :)
I do same
A very concise review, glad that the Mazes for comparison
Thanks for the video, and great sound too, love the bass it was hitting deep LOL
Thank you John. I always love your analysis of the gear you review. Curious what your 'go to headphone' is. Is there a headphone you grab first a majority of the time? Keep up the great work. We truly appreciate it.
I honestly love this headphone and they really emphasized “the fun” listen. The D-8000 Pro in my experience is a far more fun and relaxed listen without being strident in the treble than the HD 800’s and LCD XC.
I would love to buy these headphones. They thought of so much with the design and I love the difference they represent.
I also noticed that you don’t have to have a super expensive amp to get the most out of them.
I guess this is part of the cost. :)
Again. Smart design. ;)
Re: the earpad fabric, I tried these out at a show and the demo pair had that issue pretty much all over the fabric. It didn't affect the comfort though, and I doubt it would affect the sound.
Outstanding review.
Looking forward to the day when you review a pair of Stax headphones, John.
Great review as always. Any chance for review of more fordable models from FINAL??
I'm still using my 1988 Stax Lambda Pro 'EarSpeakers'. They cost me NZD $1200 with the SRD-P driver back when I was an apprentice. I've tried many (but not every) since then but nothing compares so far. Although as with every open type headphone, everyone gets to listen too!
good job mate!
It just sounds so nice and right whenever you say Aluminium lol
John, thanks for making this stuff relateable. A lot of headphone reviews elsewhere are saddled with measurements - just not my cup of tea. I don't care about the measured clamping force, or the dips and peaks in a frequency range; instead, I want to know if the reviewer found the headphones comfortable, and what types of music the cans excel at.
I want to be engaged and informed by someone's experience with a product, and your channel has always provided that.
(But I get that some folks love nerding out to measurements and charts! It's just not my preferred approach.)
Like´n love as always from Argentina.
Great review John
Will you review dcs bartok as a speaker dac +streamer?
thank you
I recently read your review on KEF ls50 wireless and adding the blue sound node 2i to the mix. I’m just wondering if work well together and should I buy one .
Mike
hey dude I watch all of your videos and their very entertaining ,please keep up the great work you do,lets hang out in Hanover some time.
I can only imagine what both the Final D8000 and the Meze Empyrean sound like paired with the Chord Hugo 2 or the DCS Bartok. Would be interesting to do a compare and contrast though I know these DAC/headphone amps are very different not only in price but sound quality. Great video John! I really appreciate your passion and devotion to audio. It really shows on camera. :)
Always interesting to be exposed to new, unknown music (to me). Love that.
Same here.
I totally agree! For me it is quite hard to get new, interesting music input - so I *love* the playlists we get with this videos 👍
John thanks a bunch.
Your hair looks fine.
Thank you you are the best ❤️👍
Thanks for the Luna suggestion John.
I could leave those D8000 Pros hanging on the wall without a note passing through them. Gorgeous.
Thats a waste.
I was waiting for you to make comparisons between them and the LCD-4z as they seem to be of a similar sound signature and I'm glad you did. It would of been nice to hear more about how those two compare in terms of detail, low end, clarity etc. but since you didn't have one on hand, you probably forgot what the Audeze's really sound like.
have you tested the Grado GS1000e? it's a bit more expensive but i'd really like to know how they compare over all
Would love to see you do a day-in-the-life behind the scenes style video. What do you do when you get up, where do you go, where do you do your work, and more importantly, where and how and how much music do you listen to throughout the day.... do you sit in your lounge in a chair listening to an album on vinyl in front of your JBLs? Are you on the move with a hi-res streamer in the pocket? Are you at a desk listening on headphones..... I personally am super fascinated to see how you interact with your music and music tech in a typical day to day scenario!
And how, as a stranger, you interact with your adopted city. Do German tastes in audio differ from your own?
Doug in Seattle
I've never heard you talking about Focal headphones.
Malek I’m interested in the Elex and would love for him to review it
What are your thoughts on the final e5000.
Thanks for great videos. I may be weird, but I remember those JBLs from back in the day, and I would have much rather had ohm omnidirectional speakers. Room reflections which make up a significant proportion of what you hear from live music aren’t always bad.
Currently have ancient mirage m3s (bipoles).
Thanks for the review John! IMO the d8000pro, is an all-round performer, and it handles all genres pretty well, but the midrange tonality and the clarity of Meze always draw me into music more (especially smooth female vocals), not to mention the comfort.
Which Meze model do you mean?
electronicgrinsch Empyrean
Yep, the Empyrean is a breakthrough. Stunningly listenable with the left and right drivers disappearing leaving just a nice, natural soundfield. I went through lots of flagships and never found anything more satisfying and engrossing than the Empyreans at any price.
Really interested in these. How would you compare the D8000/8000 Pro to the LCD-4/4z?
I've got to comment on that little cameo of David Byrne's 'The Forest', a completely underrated work in his repertoire. I got to see him perform that album in full with The Oregon Symphony back when the album released and it was just exciting stuff!
Also, as much as I love the Final E5000 iem, I can only imagine how great these D8000s are.
Can they work with LG V40 at all or they need always a amp? Did you tryed it by any chance?
If I like songs such as "Hear Me Now" by Alok or "Without Me" by Halsey (on Tidal) would the base and vocals sound better on the D800 or the D00 Pro?
Nice review. I think I've gone a bit wrong and spent too much on daps. I own a cayin n8, astell and kern sp2k, lotto paw gold touch and Sony wm1z. Watching your video makes me think I should sell some and get a Hugo 2 and those final headphones.
Any headphones you can compare to B&W? Thx.
i own 4 pairs of Final Audio headphones, 3 iems and an overhead from the sonorous line. although i like the Final house sound, i found the sonorous a bit heavy at 430 grams, can't wear them for long, that keeps me from using them and going back to iems
Great Video as always... Would love a video with slightly more affordable Headphones, in the 500 to 1000 euro/pound/dollar/peso range? Maybe a "best headphone/DAC combo for under 1000" style video like you have done with hi-fi systems in the past??
dear John Darko, I think another important reason for using headphones is to hear more fidelity in original music, because crossover in speakers are removed. even crossover-less speakers can't perform as good or even close to good pair of headphones. the background rhythm and softer music are easily heard from headphones whereas sometimes loudspeakers can't pickup this smaller music signals. do correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you.
Okay. Quick showdown. Would love opinions. What headphone has better and more impactful bass to you and your experiences using the D 8000 v.s the LCD 4 and LCD XC.
John please review the Final a8000 iem😀😀
Wakes up and saw the video notification and upload time, I thought 'Hey that's 3am Sydney, does this guy ever sleeps?' Then I remembered you're in Berlin.. Heh, I really need my morning coffee. Cheers.
Why do I listen to Mr. Darko? Damn just added a pair of these to shopping cart ....
Unless you want to have the po po up to your door, in your case the polezi, you listen to headphones to keep your neighbors civil. Have you heard a pair of Stax 009s with a blue Hawaii head amp? Just want your thoughts on that pairing with your comparisons. This video was fun John!
same question - value in loo rolls ?
can you review homepod in small room
Could you review Hifiman Arya headphones...
Look forward to a Utopia review soon..
Headphones vs speakers are like bikes vs cars - the very best, fastest superbikes that arguably provide as much “thrill” as the best, fastest hypercars at a fraction of the price. But the experience is totally different, and can’t really be compared. You’ve really got to strive for the best of both, and not try to compare too much. That said, a reference point in both worlds is the best way to go, as you say towards the end of this video. Thank you! Big thumbs up!
Tossing up between these three headphones right now for metal music.... wish I could just demo them all side by side.
Ah yes, bass-enormity.
I have the HD800 and I like it, but a bit bright. NIce open soundspace though. Do you think I'll like the D8000 ?
Happy with my Lcd4 but very interesting pair!!
These are open back? Do they bleed a lot?
I’ve never heard a high end pair. Must do that.
It is a awesome experience. If you listen to cheaper headphone like the earpods or so, it is like you only listen to music. When you hear some high end stuff like the D8000, it is like you can dive through every single note in the music and "watch" it, when you close your eyes. It is a day n night difference. If you compare headphones to a tv or a monitor, it is like a crappy old CRT monitor and a 4K VR headset difference. :)
Christian Held you are right but it’s not always this eye opening experience with flagships. Depends a lot on what type of music you listen, how well is recorded and so on. I’ve had some underwhelming experiences with high end cans.
@@ChrisHeld1989 very good explanation! You can dive in it, and touch it - just like i always say!
Bravo!
I own the Meze Empyrean which I love all things considered but I think the best headphone available today has to be the Abyss 1266 Phi TC Reference, I've heard a lot of cans but I think the Abyss are really something special. I absolutely love your style my friend, I'll watch you even if its a piece of gear I have no interest in, thanks.
Did the d8000 pro get an update?
I compared them to the meze elite and lcd 5 on this years high end.
The d8000 pro where the clear winner on every AMP from 700-15000€ in every cathegory...
Is this just my prederence or did they change somerhing?
thanks, is the base better than or equal to th900mk2 or LCD-4 ?
I have the lcd 4z.
Base is as detailed but more present.
I compare the d8000 pro to a mix of lcd 4 and hd800.
More bass and no spikes in the highs.
Im buying a pair.
And there seems to be the japanese paper pads available too
please review Sennheiser HE-1 vs HiFiMan Shangri-La vs Susvara vs Abyss 1266 TC
Great quarantine hair ;)
It's nothing compared to this week's shaved head.
Cocteau Twins get a mention again. I saw them at the Beacon Theater NYC. It was a babe-o-rama crowd, if you like that sorta thing. 😃
That’s def better than a sausage fest.. Heaven or Las Vegas..
Are these as good as my Superlux????? Great video ace.
Nice haircut 😀😀😀
@darkoaudio Can you listen to (Final D-8000) loud? I read somewhere that magnets have issues and that they rattle and tremble when you listen to the music loudly. Are 95 dB the average or their peak? Thanks.
I got the issue and sent my headphones for repair. I'm actively trying to get final audio last word on this issue. They admit the headphone have a limit, but so far, the won't give me a max dB level or a max voltage level output for the amp to not push above. That's ridiculous for a pair this expensive
John try swapping the silver cables to the Regular D8000.
Cocteau twins, so, a bit of a Shoegazer I see, man of culture.
Shoegazer? Cocteau Twins? Hm... interesting thought : )
@@cornerliston indeed. I wouldn't have put Cocteau Twins in the shoegazing category. Which is spearheaded by Radiohead, in my opinion.
Cocteau Twins were NEVER Shoegazer. You must be Gen X / Millennial is you think that.
@@cornerliston Exactly. Total nonsense.
I think that design would classify as semi-open rather than open. Looks like there's not very much of air gaps on the cups? Although difficult to see from the video. This might also be the cause for less openness in the mid and top range you experience and why they give you more “body” and the kind of low end you like.
When you told the price I was instantly thinking 350 euros by the looks of the design and build ... : ) well well. They look comfy though but maybe a bit too snug with that small opening for the ear?
Sound goes into the head, the brain has a quick sort out .... outcome achieved, different head on different peeps ...mind blown, who's right, we all are 👍
What is your favorite dub album , John ?
Interesting. I tend to agree. Both, today's best headphones and speakers have excelled to such hights, it basically comes down to preference and even mood.
I have a vintage pair of Stax SR-80! There, the mids still trigger an emotional response.
I also own Grado RS2e which will reveal detail of harmonics my Stax or my AT SR-9 just doesnt have.
Then there's my psb M4U8 which have bass power, depth and punch neither three have?
Also, I didn't hear any mention to Focal Stellia or Utopia? How about Stax L-700? My go to cans for reference sound reproduction.
But, I'm still impressed with your take on audio reproduction. With exception to JBL L-100 Classic? I owned a pair of L-166 Horizon eons ago and still felt Wharferdale E-50 were superior!
Preference and mood.
Perhaps you want to try a high-end dedicated amp with D8000 pro. Your opinion just might change.
What is the Song @7:24 ?
What track is that at 16:05? It's so cool.
Nexus PL Yomoti - Dream Season
"€3500 and we're just getting started" alright I'm done with this all
are they power demanding? ~ Mike
Can't wait for you to review the ABYSS AB-1266 Phi TC
Here's my review: no way am I putting that thing on my head.
@@DarkoAudio exactly why I chose my pair of D8000 over the Abyss lol
@@DarkoAudio I understand, nevertheless looking forward to your next video, love them!
@@DarkoAudio 😂 finally a reviewer who's not afraid to call out that monstrosity for what it really is.
Finally jbl gets some honest recognition . A lot of people dog on them that haven't experienced a better pair of Harmon Kardon's jbl excellence. Thumbs subs and looking forward to some good content...
I've invented a new drinking game. 1 shot for every 'layer separation' or 'soundstage' etc., and a double shot for each new word salad 😂😘
Are high end headphones like this worth it if you listen to “modern” music. Pop, electronic, rap, etc.?
Be really careful: a lot of high-end headphones don't offer massive bass performance. It also depends on the amp you're pushing 'em through, but it's how the headphones
are voiced, driver size, etc., closed or open, and all those variables as well. You might consider some Audeze planars, they often offer some solid bass with nice highs and mids,
but I would avoid electrostatics because they are not really made for heavy bass or dance music. I have a pair of Hifiman HE400Is, (entry level planars) and some
Fostex RP40s, and both have solid, tight, true bass, but not heavy bass by any means. But the detail and high-end are great. But it also depends heavily on the amp.
I also recently picked up some Sony X10 headphones, not high-end, dynamics, super efficient, and they have the best bass I've yet heard on a standard pair of dynamic
closed-back headphones. But, they are NOT audiophile. Bass is fantastic, but you will sacrifice some detail and high-end that planars would offer. Also, a lot of studio reference
cans lack bass, because they are not designed to be boosted or voiced for emphasizing any particular frequencies. Some of them will never offer heavier bass,
if that's what you're seeking. For example, most Sennheisers or upper-tier AKG studios are balanced, they are not voiced for heavy bass.
Another thing I'd say is forget buying any planar or electrostatic phones (those usually require a dedicated amp anyway) and using them with just a smartphone or tablet. Do not
even bother.
The problem with headphones is that you cannot share the experience and maybe some compromise in the soundstage... Other than that maybe they're the way to go.
Very true. It's a private experience, not social.
What happened to your 4z? I thought that was your daily driver
Never has been.
@@DarkoAudio Do you still use a pair of Dan Clark Aeon?
