As a kid who enjoys climbing at the gym ive almost fallen on other kids tons of times but adults have also gotten in the way such as assuming i cant do a hard problem because of my age and starting climbing on the same problem as me causing me to either stop or almost fall on them and its fucking annoying cuz it happens all the time
I actually work at the gym from the clip at around 2:00. I am working a summer camp for kids 8-16 and I show that video to the kids who refuse to look at the wall when they walk around on the matt
One of the gyms I frequent has a kids area specifically for very small/young children. They also have a policy of no one under 12 unaccompanied by adults. There's like three 8 year olds that climb on their own, but they're complete crushers who were basically raised in the gym and definitely know to watch out for people climbing so I don't mind.
Same in my gym. Specific place for young kids, no kid under 12 without supervision, plus the staff educates them and their parents when they come. You can also talk to the staff if you see a kid behaving improperly and can't find the parents, they'll deal with it (it helps that the rules have been set before, and are also written on the wall, nobody can say they don't know them).
Lmaooooo I’m srhm, thanks for liking all the dyno’s I posted! Also there have been like 3 of you in the comments that said you’ve already seen me, where have you guys seen me from 😂
That last dyno at 19:45 is in Switzerland. Its graded v9+ and it's really fucking hard. The gym sponsors the world cups that happen in Switzerland, so they give free entry to the competitors who come to train there, hence they put hard world cup styler boulders for them.
Yeah I landed on a kid once. Fortunately for both of us he wasn't directly below me, so I just kinda bounced off him instead of flattening him completely. The Srhm dynos were crazy! That some shit you'd see Toby Segar do.
I have to do moonboard sessions at my gym with my climbing partner so we can spot each other by preventing unattended toddlers from walking underneath us. We've both had way too many close calls. It's like lady can you keep your kids on a leash I want to crush my proj not your child.
bro your background is so sick. Every time I see something else I vibe heavy with. Another fantastic video and I hope you're doing amazing. Heal up king
yeah my gym has an area designed for children and if your under 14 you need to be with a parent or pass a short course where they test your skill and gym etiquette which works really well. i rarely have to deal with children walking under me or doing some other dumb shit
One of my local gyms is unusable of a weekend because it’s basically just a children’s play area. From 3 year olds waddling around under overhangs to 10 year olds climbing up and filming tiktoks from the top
I clicked on this because when my husband dislocated his foot bouldering, and was laying on the crash pad in agony, with his foot at a 90 degree angle, waiting for the paramedics… a kid jumped on the route and started trying to climb above him. True story.
Bro no shit, this video has everything. From kids getting their just desserts to some proper breakdown. I dunno maybe we have similar outlooks on climbing life, always for the craic
Each time I appear in one of your videos (which has happened twice) I always have someone come up to me in the gym on my next sesh to tell me they saw me in a UA-cam video 😂 you have atleast 3 Portuguese viewers dude 💪🏼
I do agree with this, I hate when kids who run under me while I am climbing. I am 13 myself but I have climbed v8 and 5.12 on lead, but I hate when people categorize me with 8 year old's running around the gym like it's a playground.
Same. At my gym, they do a youth climbing team for younger kids as well as older ones (I’m on the competitive one. The previously mentioned ones are not competitive) so I’m fine with kids, because the coaches drill in etiquette. I’ve been to some gyms though, where it’s young parents taking their toddlers. Those kids don’t know anything about climbing. If a kid climbs, it should be with a team or camp so they learn stuff like I did.
It's usually pretty obvious when young people know gym etiquette, and definitely obvious when they don't. Love seeing young people cruise stuff I may never be able to climb lol. Hope you keep crushing!
10:15 That dyno was from Blocshop in Canada, graded v10, you run toward the volume and catch the 2 big hold with not much grip with a compression, the video dont show it well but the white holds are on a -45 degree angle
One time a kid ran under me while I was doing a dyno route and I cane so close to kicking him and the mom ran over to me and said I should be mature enough the watch who was walking around under me :/ the irony Edit: I've seen a video on reddit of a guy falling onto a kid because they ran under a cave area so he didn't see them
There's a kids team at my gym and they are so good and for the most part they are mindfull of others. My gym is good for kids, since there are special routes meant for short people, which is good my 5'2 ass, but also for these kids. But one time there was this dad with his kid and the kids was just running like crazy and standing right under his dad while he was on an overhang talking to him and the dad said nothing. No lecture on how that isn't safe, just didnt say a word about it. Most of the time it's on the parents if kids are being unsafe in the gym.
Aye Norris Lake is the shit, did you happen to hit the huge cliff by The Peninsula? I have jumped it in past years but now that I climb i'm going to see how far up I can get
That's actually my gym where theres the kid kicked in thebface. They actually do have a kids area but so many parents just drop the kids off let them run around while they sit and talk off to the side not paying attention
The trick is not to go on a weekend if possible, and to know which local walls are "worst" if you want to avoid kids. So a wall in a major shopping mall with autobelays will probably have more kids than a training focused bouldering gym under railway arches. Westway (one of the larger and older walls in London, and one of a minority that has roped climbing and isn't bouldering only) makes a big song and dance about how inclusive it is by banning shirtless climbing; except they focus on formal training so much, they basically fail on outreach and mostly only get middle class kids who can afford to go on the NICAS training programme they don't even have enough instructors for. That said, if you don't go on a Saturday or when school groups visit in the daytime, it's usually fairly quiet. It's good that NICAS exists (basically swimming badges for climbing) but I also feel that for some children the programme could actually be off putting, as I stopped swimming when I wasn't offered the opportunity to earn a 100 metres swimming badge and being a six year old, I was confused as to why. That said, it's not as bad as when a careless dad belayed a circa six year old boy onto my head (from an overhang, I was stood some distance from the wall) at the Castle (another well known wall in London). At another wall (Mile End) I saw parents being very pushy on a bouldering wall with a maybe 3 or 4 year old who quite frankly seemed petrified. Way to go to put your kid off something!
I almost fell on a kid last week. He would walk under me. He started to climb the same problem I was on. I looked at mom once to see if she would say something to him. Nope. She was belaying her other kid that was doing weird shit on top rope. Looked like that kid was likely to flip upside down from being fucking weird. Fuk. I seriously want an adults only climbing gym. I didn’t use to be like this but I’ve had too many close calls and parents don’t give a shit. I’m sure they’d be super upset if my fat ass fell on their kid though
There is some days at my gym that a kids group comes to have classes, those days is like climbing in the jungle. I saw a man fall off the wall in a kid who was running, omg what a hit, it was amazing. Five minutes later the kid was running around again, maybe they just shouldn't get in dangerous places like this
the first guess the grade boulder is in a gym called climbing hut in Ellesmere port in England and my local gym is an hour away and is the sister location of that gym which is in Shrewsbury. small ass world
a couple months ago i had a kid literally pick up my chalk bag, and empty it on the mats, and when i confronted the kids dad he acted like it wasn't his problem. Kid was bouncing off the walls, walking under me as I'm on the wall. Annoying
I love how after kicking the kid (who is deffo at fault) in the face, the climber just stands there like "you're an idiot." I have seen just as many older teens and adults be asses as kids at a gym so I don't think we need a separate area. If a kid does the wrong thing and gets kicked in the face, well, they will remember that lesson.
Im a kid, but i actually follow the rules in a climbing gym, but i get so irritated when a mom don`t care when there kids go under someone that does a v8!
