How a pm can have so much power is beyond comprehension. There are auditors n people he too as prime minister has to answer to. Prime minister work for the people, the public. That is why we have auditors to keep the people informed so that the persons in charge cannot abuse their power.
The answer is the PM was the de factor dictator with absolute power. Auditors are useless if there is no strong governance in place for checks and balance and Dr M quickly dismantled any such systems to remove any potential barrier to challenge him and at the same time build up strong support through enriching cronies with bribes. This is how he managed to stay in power for so long and build up massive personal wealth for him, his family and all his cronies that are loyal to him.
And over time of 5 decades, corruption is becoming a habit and part of the DNA and genes passed on to offsprings from 1980s Carrian group - Bank Bumiputra Finance to 2010s 1MDB - US Goldman Sachs as bookends with so many other corruption cases alongside. Political-financial-religious corruption proliferate, interrelate and multiply to snowball.
Vice Asia is trying to be credible but their research is sorely lacking. It has ended up being a poor version of a media organization. Although its true that these were the only two large scale corruption cases in Malaysia.
I think he is refering to the Carrian Group scandal. The whole legacy of this case involved a high level of corruption in Hong Kong, mainly. Many aren't aware that the corruption was as much spearheaded in Hong Kong as it was a Malaysian issue. One can just study the Carrian Group history to understand this. Bank Bumiputra was only the proxy, not the principle of the matter.

Malaysian has been swindled more than hundreds of billions but still prosper in terms of economy. Surely their natural resources is a main factor but still, it is not going to last for long. If other countries been duped like this, people will suffer but not Malaysian. They were so chill. Am I wrong here?
Hmm... yes and no Yes, malaysia has managed to survive for so long, it’s partly due to the natural resources of Malaysia But, natural resources does not equal prosperity/not bankrupt, Venezuela is a good example In my opinion, malaysia still manages to hold off bankruptcy is due to the fact that majority of the wealth+assets+money+private businesses is in the hands of ethnic Chinese. The Chinese saved sums of money throughout generations of living+doing businesses in Malaysia, and it’s the Chinese that kept Malaysia from going bankrupt. I personally know, a restaurant co-owner at where I live, a friend of a friend, her boyfriend’s (who co-owns a restaurant with her) family owns a small but very famous museum (called the baba nyonya museum) at where I live, they are not super rich, but, they live comfortably with multiple revenues of passive income. The museum itself is already a very valid+consistent source of valid passive income. Their restaurant is famous+successful, you can actually see it at the top 30 restaurants list on TripAdvisor at the town where I live. But, this restaurant isn’t their main income stream despite the fact that they are successful, the boyfriend’s family has a multiple streams of other income sources, all passed down throughout generations. The museum that the boyfriend’s family own is small, but very famous throughout Malaysia, and whoever that visits as a tourist to the town where I live in, most likely they will be visiting that museum too. Her boyfriend’s family had other investments as well, mainly in real estates/commercial shop lots which they bought with money earned throughout the year, they collect rents from these properties. If I am not mistaken, the boyfriends parents own/used to own one or two other restaurants as well, and thus the parents had significant experience in helping them to set up+start up their own restaurant successfully. everybody knows, owning a profitable f&b business is very hard, and if you have ppl who are experienced in the industry to help you out, you will avoid most of the pitfalls. These group of ppl aren’t very rich by appearance, they don’t wear/use any luxury items, but, just by their appearance, you know they live a comfortable and care-free life. Anyways, during pandemic, the restaurant which the girl co-owns with her boyfriend, it was closed most of the time throughout the 2 years pandemic, they didnt even bother to set up an online food delivery account with apps like grabfood. As to why they didn’t set up a food delivery account, I don’t know, I didn’t ask. They had 8 full time employees at the restaurant, which during the pandemic they manage to keep half the staffs (4 staffs) and still pay monthly salaries to them despite the fact that the restaurant wasn’t open for almost 2 years and they didn’t set up any food delivery accounts. Needless to say, even though they didn’t mention that they actually own the shop which they operate their restaurants on, but I am very sure the shop lot is theirs, debt free (paid using boyfriend’s parents money perhaps?), they don’t have much stress like any other small business owners where everyone is struggling to cover rent/other cost. My friend+her boyfriend is just another obscure+normal looking person amongst the millions of Chinese in Malaysia, but, there r a lot of other ppl like them. The huge factory that my another friend is working at, during the pandemic, revenue is on going for the factory owners (chinese) because their business involves constructing the outer metal structure for public transports like trains/buses, they have overseas customers in places like Hong Kong/Singapore, their business is kinda pandemic unaffected because contracts for constructions of trains/buses where signed years prior, and despite the pandemic , buyers have to uphold the terms of contracts. My another friend, who worked in a small+obscure looking share trading firm (owned by Chinese) at where I live, earned hundreds and millions of dollars, probably billions of dollars during the pandemic. The family that owned the share trading firm, has been suffering for losses/next to zero profit for years, they are a part of a larger family who owns factories/real estates/property development businesses throughout Malaysia. Needless to say, throughout so many years, the share trading firm is still in operation because it was supported by tonnes of other income streams that the family has. The family developed a share trading software a few years prior to the pandemic, and during the pandemic, where plenty of Malaysians were just sitting at home, started to learn share trading for the first time using the money they have saved up in the bank, and this was when the share trading app really took off because of its cheaper commission rate charged per trade as compared to other platforms set up by major banks. There r a lot of small size stocks broking/trading firms in Malaysia, but, none of them developed their own share trading software/app, because it costs millions and millions of dollars to do so, developing a reliable+secured+malaysia government approved online share trading platform, is very very expensive. This stock trading firm has managed to do so is because they have a lot of money saved up throughout generations of their family doing business in Malaysia. You can’t just set up a typical share trading app/crypto app And get it government approved in Malaysia, Malaysia is very strict in regards to this aspect, up till today, major investment banks like Goldman Sachs/Merrill Lynch/all other foreign investment banks aren’t allowed to set up a branch in Malaysia, they are very wary of anything that can potentially screw up the finance sector of the country. Anyways, the volume of trade of this tiny share trading firm, as verified by Forbes Malaysia, is in the top 5 in Malaysia, this list includes all other banks (big/small)/share trading firms that have the license to do stock broking in Malaysia. I was in external audit, I had 2 clients, both in palm oil business, both owned by Chinese bosses/family, 1st is non-listed company, 2nd is a public listed company You would think, that the one which is a public listed company is way bigger+earn way more money, but, this is not the case. 1st Company, just in cash, the amount exceeded 1 billion, this excludes all other major assets like land (they have tonnes of palm oil land/plantation/palm oil bill), zero debt, zero need for cash flow management because they have so much cash the bosses instructed the accounts to pay off all creditors at every month end irregardless of the credit term (some creditors offer 90 day pay back period), this company is a non-listed company, and it does not have intention to list the company on stock exchange. 2nd Company is always cash poor, always struggling to pay up, have tonnes and tonnes of loans from various banks, have next to zero profit, this company is a public listed company. But; if you rewind 15-20 years back, the 2nd Company was doing much better (back then it wasn’t a public listed Company) because it had way more palm oil plantations, and it was also cash rich, but then it goes downhill when the boss decided it’s going to list the company on stock exchange. So, what makes the 2nd Company goes Downhill? Management. I believe, the 2nd Company kept losing money on purpose, in reality, the money has somehow gone to the pockets of the family who were the original founder of the company, probably they paid various creditors more than they should by using the company funds+loan money, and in return the creditor transferred money to their overseas bank accounts. But, because the amount over-pay is probably quite minimal and the company decline is pretty gradual , it wasn’t enough to warrant an alert to anyone that something is wrong with the company, everyone in the industry knows that this company is shady, but, no one will take the initiative to investigate+expose the corruption, because by doing so it gains no benefit. Palm oil companies does not have a major competition issue like other businesses, basically, they sell all palm oil harvested at a set market price, just like gold, how much palm oil they manage to harvest depends on how much land that they have. So, you as a palm oil business owner, by sabotaging another business, you bring very minimal benefit to your own business. If you manage to overpay 0.5% to each creditor, this amount may seem tiny, but, if you have 20 creditors, that’s a 10% loss to the company, just to give you an idea. A 10% loss on net profit margin is a huge deal to any company, go check the financial statements of the biggest company in the world, you will be surprised that most of these companies have super low profit margin. It’s almost impossible to lose business in palm oil business, those who are losing money are usually the ones that let the company goes public, any normal palm oil plantation business has a net profit margin of 25-30% and they do not have to be super thrifty/super cost savings to achieve that net profit margin. Of course, if your intention is to siphon money off the company To line your own pocket, those net profit margin will go to 0% pretty fast. So, hope this gives you a clear idea why Malaysia still hasn’t bankrupt despite decades of corruption.

The term Nanyang refers to those living in SE Asia and they're same but different.
Again, while having envy at Jho Low, I am here standing and being unbiased and fair to please, next time, refer to him as Malaysian (if you insist, Chinese Malaysian - or as we here say despite grammatically incorrect - Malaysian Chinese) because labelling him Chinese opens doors to confusions.
Don't ever say Chinaman. It is highly derogatory. And what are you? Disgusting
This reporter is deliberately creating confusion. No one would make this kind of stupid "mistakes". It's like calling Black Americans "African" or Mexican Americans "Mexican" lol.

The term Malaysian Chinese is grammatically incorrect? It sounds more logical because ethnicity should come after nationality

Proves that some people have been corrupt since decades.
How so? Tell us more about the truth
Yes please share here. We want more credible information.

Do you know why they dare do so? Because Malaysians, especially Malays are docile. The only way to make them see the weight of responsiblity is when thier life is on the line.
their life will be on the line, when, and only when, malaysia is bankrupt
The Malays standard living is low, they can get by with low amount of money monthly, and somehow their livelihood is always supported by various government schemes funded by tax money in the form of government jobs, free education, low cost housing subsidized government, and even if they are working in private corporations, these private corporations are always government linked.
Only when Malaysia is totally bankrupt, that’s when the malays will stop getting funding from the government

Malaysian has been swindled more than hundreds of billions but still prosper in terms of economy. Surely their natural resources is a main factor but still, it is not going to last for long. If other countries been duped like this, people will suffer but not Malaysian. They were so chill. Am I wrong here?
Hmm... yes and no
Yes, malaysia has managed to survive for so long, it’s partly due to the natural resources of Malaysia
But, natural resources does not equal prosperity/not bankrupt, Venezuela is a good example
In my opinion, malaysia still manages to hold off bankruptcy is due to the fact that majority of the wealth+assets+money+private businesses is in the hands of ethnic Chinese.
I was in external audit, I had 2 clients, both in palm oil business, both owned by Chinese bosses/family, 1st is non-listed company, 2nd is a public listed company
You would think, that the one which is a public listed company is way bigger+earn way more money, but, this is not the case.
