People don't realize how Kendall Gill was probably the closest to MJ before Kobe. Shooting form. Turn around fade aways. Very classic team.

Gill was an all-around player, good defender. With Dell from 3 and Muggsy’s steals and AST/TO (insane 5.0 for 5 yrs ‘90-‘94) they had good all-around perimeter play to go with LJ/Zo in the frontcourt. Definitely fun to watch in the mid-‘90s.

It's kind of hard to be in the limelight during the 90's, other than MJ and some few guards, because of so many big men that dominates the paint (unlike todays NBA who shoots 3 WTF) i.e. Olajuwon, Ewing, David Robinson, Duncan, Shaq, Mourning etc.

Larry Johnson was one of the most recognizable and popular players in the NBA before even stepping on the court.
That Hornets team, with Alonzo Mourning and Mugsy Bogues and Larry Johnson was really good.
Johnson would be traded to the New York Knicks prior to the 1997 season where he would team with guys like Patrick Ewing, Allan Houston and John Starks and later Latrell Sprewell and Marcus Camby, as he was a crucial piece to the success of the late 90s Knicks.
He was one of the key players of the Knicks and Heat rivalry of that era as he would constantly feud with his former teammate, Mourning.
It was very unfortunate that he retired from the NBA in 2001 at the young age of 31.

For the young bucks who don't know and haven't seen any videos, LJ was THAT dude at UNLV during that 89/90-90/91 run. He was an absolute star in college and was THE man. They had him and teammate and fellow star Stacey Augmon in suits on the cover of the Sports Illustrated College Preview issue like it was GQ or some sht. Straight up ill. There wasn't a cooler team than UNLV and only the Michigan Fab Five that came the season right after in 91/92 can compare to how much they resonated with the streets. I used to listen to their games on the radio when i was 12-14 ! That's how real sht was. LJ was definitely on that Charles Barkley sht, both in regards to style of play and in lying about his height. He was listed at 6-7 but was allegedly measured at only a bit taller than 6-3 at a pre-draft camp in 91. I always thought he looked closer to like 6-5, but either way you know a dude is real when he gets drafted #1 overall as a power forward being that undersized.

Larry Johnson's back injury didn't surprise me because he would grab an offensive rebound and bring the ball down very low. Then he would burst up and do a thunderous dunk. Of course he used his knees but you still got to bend your back to do that. He also used his back alot to post up to create separation. He even kept his dribble low. Lots of stress on the back. If he would of remained healthy he probably would of had seasons of 28ppg and 12 rebounds.

So how does it make sense that Wilkes is in the HOF but Johnson is not? Voters puttin' too much emphasis on championships when the HOF is supposed to be an INDIVIDUAL honor. I was a Hornets early days fan too & then he gets drafted by them! Some of my Best memories & was just turning a Teen! I had his & Alonzos Jerseys as Hornets. Think i still do but in storage 🤔

LJ was always my favorite player. And when he got to NYK, my favorite team, it was unbelievable... and this 4point play - the best play in basketball history!
Very subjective, I know I know 😁 - but if someone asked me for one special play from any basketball game, this would be the one.
And I'm from Croatia, so 1992 Olympics basketball finals against The original Dream Team is on top. But not as a single moment.
The second moment was when Franjo Arapović dunked for the 24:23 lead against the Dream Team 😅
Thanks for this video, it brought me back to times when the NBA was the best! 🏀
