- The 911 call came in at 3:50 p.m. reporting that the gangway at the Marsh Landing Dock on Sapelo Island had collapsed, plunging people into the water below.
My prayers to the families of the lost, and hope this doesn't get any worse than it already is.
My son and I were there. We're actually in the video. It was quite a scene. We arrived after the collapse to people being pulled out of the water.

I’m from Jacksonville, but I’ve never heard of this island. I have heard of the people before, but I guess I didn’t know where they were located. Prayers for these precious people.
Not very far from you up the coast.
Many small islands once owned by descendents of former slaves off the coasts of SC,Ga and Florida.Many were bought by slick developers and turned into golf courses and resorts. Think Hilton Head and Amelia Island.

@@avondalemama470 No problem. They grew sea island cotton on those islands and rice and indigo in the coastal areas.If you drive up the old coast hwy you can see the old rice fields. When Sherman's men got to Savannah they wrote letters home complaining there was nothing to eat but " everlasting rice.".Rice was the potatoes of the south. My grandmother had rice at virtually every dinner. With peas,with meat any gravy, tomato okra gumbo, or with tomato gravy. My Dad was from the midwest and had never eaten rice but in pudding.

There were 40 people DANCING and stomping on the gangway (the little metal walkway that connects the boat to the dock) 40 people.
I'm orignally from Savannah and love these offshore islands and salt marshes.This is so sad. I lived on one of those historic islands as a teenager when we moved back to Savannah. My grandpa could speak the dialect and often did which confused my uncle from Detroit so I had to interpret.

Happens often with decks, dance floors, house parties. The weight of five people can be over 1000 lbs, so with just 20 people that's the weight equivalent of a minivan. It doesn't take much for something to collapse. Sad story.

Overwhelmed by too many people on the bridge. Physics is everything. People just not aware of how physics control many things like weight on a bridge or a balcony. Or if you can speed past a truck or a race car. More mass less speed. Was the crowd wearing heavy clothing. Allowing too many on the bridge to get to the boat at once or was there someone managing the crowd. I’ll bet it was lack of management and common sense. More mass more gravity acting on the object. Swimming is also reliant on physics and buoyancy. This could have been avoided. Sad because of that.
Witchcraft isn't real, everything happens solely because of the will of God.
Were you there or have video of the moment of collapse to know that? Or are you just assuming.
@@csylla no I taught physics. Everything is engineered and physics is involved. Don’t need a video just need education. People asleep in science class obviously. Do I need to go outside first if the weatherman tells me it’s 15 degrees below zero. And your skin will freeze on contact or it’s 105 degrees in the shade and you will get dehydrated quickly? I don’t think so.
@@csylla oh here’s another one. A couple was killed because they got out of their car instead of remaining inside and calling 911. This happened when a power line fell on it during a bad storm. Both killed instantly because they stepped on it or in the path of the electric charge. No video of that either. I saw it on the news.
It is pronounced "gull-a" not goo-lah. And it is "Sap-a-lo" Island

We know how to pronounce it. It is a well known, favorite island. You are only referring to 2 news reporters, not a whole city

No, a gangway with 40 people on it collapsed. A gangway is the little metal walkway that connects the boat to the dock. 40 people dancing and stomping on it. Wonder how it happened....

Now what? You have to swim to shore and climb out. Swim past tangled wreckage and people who can't swim, and figure out how to get on land without the dock-bridge… y'know, the one that collapsed.
