On paper the RAV4 looks like the best choice. But when you get behind the wheel and spend anytime trying to enjoy the drive or listening to music you will quickly realize the CRV is a much better choice. It has a plush, smooth, quiet ride. And even the base model sound system is NOTICBLY better than most of the audio choices on the RAV4. I test drove both back to back to back to back (jumped back and forth between the vehicles multiple times.) Every time I got into the CRV I realized a new thing that the CRV does better than the RAV4. If you want to enjoy your drive, get the CRV. If you need a beater point A to B, Crotch goblin hauler, get the RAV4. Granted, I am in the USA and after dealer markups Toyota is gouging us, but Honda comes in cheaper for an equally equipped vehicle.
Thank you so much for your review. I have been struggling with my decision between the two because it’s a big purchase for me. I’ve decided on the CRV EXL, I really want the Hybrid but not in my budget. Honda is more expensive because there is more attention to fit and finish as well as the smooth even performance over hills, bumps and pot holes and that seals the deal. Toyota has a really annoying “rock” when it rolls over uneven roads. And this “rock” happens in the RAV4 to Toyota wheelchair van to the Lexus. With the exception of Lexus, Toyota’s look and feel like cheap plastic, IMO. Honda lacks certain desired features and the Touring is missing a spare tire but it feels great to drive. Honda should have offered more trims and more features but the comfortable smooth ride and classy exterior and interior makes up for it.
I agree, ended up buying a CRV Hybrid Sport (the lower trim not touring). If I were going with the highest trim I think I'd lean towards toyota though bc u get way more for what u pay.
On paper the RAV4 has many things to like, but to me the CR-V is so much bigger - it's not even in the same league. The ride and interior quality and looks are so much better in my opinion also. What I've found after years of buying big ticket items - no matter how many comparisons you do, you tend to rationalize the one you really want anyway. I've owned Hondas and Toyotas and over the long run Hondas were much more reliable. I am bothered that there is no spare tire in the crv.
Just purchased a 2023 CRV Hybrid Sport AWD and I'm in love with it. I previously owned a 2016 RAV4 and was looking to upgrade to something newer/more fuel efficient. I went to the Toyota dealerships and was told the RAV4 Hybrids are on a 1-2 year waiting list depending on what model you want and if you want a Prime on my island of Oahu/Hawaii. So I started researching comparable Hybrids and ended up going with the CRV. It doesn't have the power and superb fuel efficiency of a RAV but it looks a lot nicer/ features a more premium interior and drives smooth as butter. Although I'm sure the RAV4 hybrid is a great vehicle, I'm very happy that I ended up going with the Honda.
I think the driving speeds on oahu are prefect for the best mpgs. I read that more highway and higher speeds over 60 mph will start to get worse mpg. how has it been for you?
I took short test drives on both vehicles yesterday, and was struck by how loud and rough the RAV4 hybrid felt compared to the more smooth and refined CRV.
Not to be a fanboy, but the RAV4 is, quite frankly, a pretty a sh!tt% car in comparison all around. Every surface plastic, the handling , noise, agility, etc, are just...bad. Its as if Toyota was trying to cut every penny possible. The new RAV4 in fact feels decidedly down rent. The RAV was a nice runabout 20 years ago, now it just seems like they are not even trying.
I had both of these out for a test drive and the CRV Hybrid won me over after the test drives. The ride was better and handling just felt right. It also has a higher quality interior and just felt so much more refined. The 2024 CRV Hybrid I took out was the EX-L new for 2024 in Canada and less expensive than the touring. I would give up mile or two mpg with the CRV hybrid than listen to louder cabin and CVT/ engine drone. I am not a previous owner of either brand.
The CR-V has direct only fuel injection, so it will get carbon buildup on the inlet valves. Toyota's eCVT has been around since 2000. There are plenty of Prius taxis around with 500,000 miles on this transmission. There are no clutches to wear, no valves to jam unlike the Honda, which incidentally has a new and untried system. The AWD on the RAV4 uses a separate rear electric motor. The CR-V uses a transfer case, prop shaft and rear differential which requires more maintenance and is heavier. If you plan to keep a car for 200,000 miles, the Toyota will be the better bet.
The CRV Hybrid is great vehicle on its own, it's just the RAV4 Hybrid has so many more reasons to choose it instead. Aside from a bit more power (which I'm sure isn't a big deal to shoppers in this segment), it gets better fuel economy, has a trim in Canada available for about $15,000 less expensive (if you don't want all the toys) and even if you do want the fully loaded model, it's still about $3,000 less and has more features. Factor in a hybrid system is almost 25 years old (with refinements) and you've got a vehicle that should be as reliable as an anvil. Toyota's decision to offer hybrid models throughout their lineup (many models and trims) was the best idea from a car brand.
The problem with the RAV4 Hybrid is the lack of space. I’m 6’5 and cannot fit in it. I fit perfectly in the CRV Hybrid. And in the US, the prices of the RAV4 Hybrid XSE and CRV Hybrid Sport Touring are MUCH closer to each other and in many cases the CRV Hybrid is cheaper. Yes I love Toyota’s Hybrid history and their reputation, but I’d rather put my money on something with more space.
@@jessethompson9087 Then do away with all this hybrid nonsense, and save money by going Nissan Rogue. VC Turbo make it much nicer. Electrified is just not ready yet.
Driving a RAV4 for eight months gave me no impression of quality or longevity. Sharp edges on touch points (shifter and door), and rattles in several different locations including door speakers. The worst part is how little space there is for taller drivers.Even my old Golf embarrassed the RAV4 in that regard. I don’t have a lot of positives to say other than decent ride quality. I would take the CR-V or Sportage Hybrids over it any day.
Yeah the ideal car would be the Sportage interior and exterior with the RAV4 hybrid powertrain. All have pros and cons, but the Sportage nails more than it misses and rightfully is the segment leader.
@@ishaansaral502but Sportage was recalled for 6 times last year for issues with power train, Airbag, Brakes etc..and I bet nobody would buy it after using it for 3 years, that's the prob.
I have a ‘17 Accord hybrid that I bought new. After about 3-1/2 years and 85,000 miles, the hybrid battery started to deteriorate. Honda says it’s a natural process that is NOT covered by the 8-year hybrid battery warranty. I’ve lost 25% fuel economy. Honda costumer service was not helpful. I realize every battery has a lifespan but I feel most people don’t realize it’s so short. I’ve been a loyal Honda owner since 2004, having bought 4 Honda vehicles, but I will never buy another Honda.
Thank you for your insight. You have a very valid point. May I understand how a deteriorated battery would affect fuel economy. In my understanding, a hybrid vs a non-hybrid car is the regeneration hence saving. The cost is additional cost for the technology, the battery, the efficiency of the hybrid system. To catpure the regenerated power, it doesn't need a big battery to store it, does it? I am considering a hybrid so your insight will be very helpful. Thanks!
@@ckryung Since the hybrid battery is deteriorating earlier than expected, it 1) can’t charge as efficiently, so it doesn’t capture the same amount of energy as before, and 2) is unable to store as much electricity as it once did. That’s why mpg/fuel economy has dropped.
You guys were a major contributor to my decision. Thank you. We are looking for our hybrid to arrive in about 6 to 8 weeks. My choice?? For looks and the extras I liked the Sportage. The Tucson not without consideration. But I went with the Rav4. The less exciting systems with years of track record made the decision. Thank you for your contribution and even with our decision made I continue to follow the channel and enjoy the coffee and cars.
Without a doubt, this day and age, Toyota Rav4 is definitely the right and best choice. Based on my experience with the Camry hybrid, our family is ready for a Rav4 hybrid. Thank you for your review!
I’m a Honda guy, but I would buy the Toyota. There hybrid system gets better fuel mileage and way better pricing. I’m not paying 10000 plus for a Honda 🤨
Yep, my thoughts exactly. Currently a 2020 CR-V Sport owner and have owned 2014 and 2009 CR-V's (all purchased new). Never had any issues with any of the CR-V's however since Honda has increased prices to insane levels compared to the current competition, I won't be purchasing another one. The RAV4 Hybrid is currently the best value for the price in terms of proven reliability (at least in my opinion).I also have a 2021 Acura RDX A-Spec which at the time of purchasing was under $59000 Canadian all in with 0.9% financing due to owner loyalty. Haven't owned anything but Honda/Acura products since 2006 but Honda seems to have lost its way in terms of pricing/value compared to the competition. Just looked what a CR-V EX-L would cost in Canada after tax and current 7+% financing... over $61000.. Insane!!
I have the 2022 RAV XSE abd this SUV is fantastic.I wanted to keep buying Honda as I have had several over the years but when I asked my dealer about a hybrid in Canada they were not even available so unto Toyata RAV and its been a match made in heaven plus 900+ k in summer per tank ........yes love it .🥰
you summed it up Zack. Number one reason people consider a hybrid is to get BETTER FUEL ECONOMY!!! RAV4 Hybrid has the CRV Hybrid beat, and it's got a proven track record for $15,000 LESS!!! Heck, the regular gasoline RAV4 has fuel economy almost as good as the CRV Hybrid. The CRV Hybrid does not compute. For Honda lovers only.
Thank you from NB for your videos. My wife and I just put our order in for a yoda rav4 XLE hybrid today. Now to just wait on it to come in. We got a lot out of your videos.
I love your comparison, I have just bought 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid. I am going to pick up next week, looking forward to enjoy driving it. Thank you , thank you both, you guys are amazing at explaining and making it entertaining as well
Great review as always. I really like when you do comparison reviews. The CRV has certain angles that remind me of a Volvo. Happy New Year to both of you!
Having a spare tire wins. I've had several flats in my Honda Accord Hybrid, and I can tell you that the tire repair kit is just a useful as a big rock in my trunk. The only way to reliably get anywhere with any car is a spare tire and for that, the RAV4 wins!
Yet you haven't driven any, I have and owns the honda. The rav4 was noisy and suspension very harsh, crv drives superior and my previous car was a Toyota and a Toyota guy
nope you gotta test drive both. you wouldnt say this is you did. yes 100% the rav4 is cheaper and offers better mpg but the crv is better in literally everything else. also its pretty difficult to even get rav4's these days. you'll either be waiting 8+ months or have to pay a markup. With markups the rav becomes the same price as a CRV. Got a CRV the day I walked into the dealership for 1k off msrp.
I went with the CRV and had been a proud owner of a Camry Hybrid for almost 11 years. I really wanted to like the RAV4 because the 360 camera, fuel efficiency and panoramic roof but really liked the way the CRV drove better. I also liked the CRV exterior a bit better but the inside sold me. It felt comfortable. The CRV is actually cheaper in the US (Touring vs Limited) but Toyota care is extended as well as My Toyota so that along with the fuel efficiency, it may be a wash. But I still got the vehicle I will enjoy driving and we work remote more these days so not too much commuting. I would have even picked a new Camry Hybrid over the RAV 4 or the Venza which had a smooth ride but its limited price was more than I was willing to pay.
Had I 2003 Toyota Rav 4 that I purchased in November of 2002. Had the car for 20 years. Just got rid of it in October. Decided to make a change and go with the 2022 Honda CRV which I purchased a few weeks ago this month.
I like the look of CRV but it’s has lacks of good features and it’s pricey while RAV4 is good but don’t like the look of it but offer good price. Awesome video Andrea! ☕️☕️
I have driven both and the drive is most important. CRV wins but I’m in US where it’s more affordable. Also cable gate is real. If I was in Canada Hyundai Tucson.
I like the CRV but it is lacking key features like 360* camera, ventilated seats, HUD, four way lumber support. It is overpriced as compared to the RAV4.
Many reviews of the Honda CRV hybrid are reporting poor mileage numbers, which is a real negative for me. I own a Subaru Forester (non-hybrid) and get about 33 MPG in the summer, 30 MPG in winter. I would expect at least 5-7 MPG more from a hybrid vs. a standard ICE.
When first choosing Honda vs Toyota 20 years ago, the Toyotas just seemed a better value for the money. I've been loyal to Toyota ever since, although I do check out Honda's offerings each time I get a new car. Just bought a '23 Rav4 Hybrid SE and I'm in LOVE. Could not be happier with this car. (In the US, btw).
hello Zack and Andrea I am the first to write my comment. Greetings from a hot weather at Lima - Peru. In my opinion about HYBRIDS, They should use a DIESEL engine match to an electric battery. Hey Zack can you imagine your PORSCHE CAYENNE DIESEL HYBRID ?. I might believe you will get more than 1000 km per tank full of Diesel. I know you are getting already 700 km per tank, which it is amazing. That´s why you will not sell your PORSCHE. Have a happy NEW YEAR 2023 and I can´t wait to watch more car reviews from you plus the educational live show every sunday.
We will make it to that ever elusive 100th Vancouver Auto Show yet, right guys? Dual Brit Canadian here. Currently in the UK but other home is top Burnaby Mountain. Been following the BC news on CTV News Vancouver online from the UK. Hope you are surviving winter in the Lower Mainland Ok. I know it's warmed back up after all that snow and now raining. The licence plate on your test vehicle seemed appropriate with SN0. Zack, I've seen you talk at the Vancouver Auto Show a few years ago at the new Convention Centre. Hope that show goes ahead in 2024 at least! I still remember when it was at BC Place Stadium. Sending best wishes for the New Year from across the pond. It was great to hear Canadian accents again and see a BC licence plate. And I recognized many of the roads in the video. You sure like to take test drives around the University Endowment Lands (UEL) near UBC, don't you!! 🇨🇦 🇬🇧
My 2023 RAV4 Prime XSE with Tech package that’s coming in February is just under $60,000 minus the $8000 government rebates in NS and the CRV hybrid is almost $49,000. So only about $3000 more for a loaded R4P plugin. I’ve been Honda for 30 years but changing brands.
Great to see you again after the Christmas weekend Andrea and your latest review with Zack. Nice hybrid car, Honda do make good sturdy and stylish cars.
Just bought my 2024 Honda CRV Hybrid Sport (non touring) yesterday in the USA - wow what a car! Total OTD was about $42,000 USD. I like the RAV-4 too but the Honda is more refined. So the non-touring version is a better comparison to the RAV-4 in the video above and at that price point the Honda offers more. Just an observation. Both are fantastic cars. Thanks for this video, it helped me make up my mind on buying the Honda! P.S. Andrea is cute!
So here in the US, it looks like you can get a top spec, CRV hybrid sport touring, and a nicely equipped RAV4 hybrid XLe premium with some extra packages, for almost the exact same price. The cars would be equipped very similarly at those trim levels. so my question to Zack and Andrea is, if you were living in the US where the price differential did not exist and liked the more highly equipped models, would you go for the CRV?
After watching countless videos, it came down to the top trim hybrid CR-V, RAV4 and Tucson. After driving all three, the CR-V was the one for me. I love the look and feel of it. Also, Honda was more reasonable price-wise as one thing that wasn’t covered in this video, was the dealer mark-ups right now. Toyota dealers in Calgary have their ‘Alberta Climate Package’ adding $4-7000 to the price - making the RAV $56K. In any event, thanks for all the great information. In most cases, I walked into the dealerships knowing as much or more than the salesperson. 😀
I just love your real and honest reviews. So natural and relatable plus you guys are simply too cute. Love you guys and your videos keep up being you!! ❤
Not sure why Honda and Acura doesn't provide more choices for optional powertrains with hybrids or plug-in hybrids with more models? They seem to be slipping down because of this and it might be too little too late when they do try to climb back up. The CR-V should have a 1.5T, 2.0T, hybrid, and plug-in Hybrid options for one of their best selling vehicles.
Wow, thank you so much, we appreciate the kind words. Really glad you are enjoying our content. Happy New Year to you as well, looking forward to sharing more reviews in 2023.
@@andreaspencer9813 Hope you had a great Christmas and have a brilliant 23. Zack goofed: Prius hybrid came out in Japan in 97. Honda brought it's Insight out in late 99.
New Honda CR-V is a handsome vehicle, I really appreciate its classic shape. I quite like the Toyota RAV4 however I can’t get over how noisy & rattle-y it is. Mind you, I still like the looks of the RAV4 Woodland edition as well as the Trail edition in Lunar Rock with white roof, but that’s all exterior looks. I don’t love big tablets sticking out from front dash either. Both are still okay
You are so right about the rattle-y and noisy interior. The ride is almost abusively stiff, as well, and I find the seats uncomfortable. Overall, I think the inside of the RAV4 is just a dreadful place to be and the reliability and long life of the car can't save it. I don't understand why it's so popular.
@@charleshedberg6938 price and mpg. I'll gladly pay a little extra for a car that im going to keep a long time and offers the better experience. CRV all the way
The CR-V as a brand new model had the chance to learn from Toyota and the Koreans, and kind of squandered it. it's baffling how it can't match up to their features AND is more expensive. Also things like locking features behind their overpriced hybrid trims, overpricing their cars in general. I'm not sure where Honda's greed is coming from. They're not like Mazda who actually offer a premium interior and better driving experience, with the same features as competitors. It is definitely concerning for their future since there is also going to be a new Pilot and Accord this year that will no doubt end up being overpriced while lacking features. Honda has also slipped reliability wise. With Toyota, who have stayed on top of reliability for decades, you know that paying them more will save you money in the long-term when out of warranty. Honda doesn't have the same kind of reputation or data to back it up anymore. Definitely sad since their interiors have such great ergonomics and physical controls, but that isn't enough for most buyers when better value is found LITERALLY anywhere else.
Rav4 Hybrid even if I didn't already own a 2020 XLE. I get 5.7 L/100km in warm weather and just over 6 in the winter in Ottawa. Come on Honda, do better than that on pricing!
I can easily do 5.5 L/100km in my 2020 corolla LE gas version and in summer I have done as far as 4.5L/ 100km in back roads. In winter, I have been doing 6.9 in winter.
My 22 LE hybrid got an average of 5.3l/100km this summer in primarily country roads. In the winter I think I'm averaging 6.5l/100kms. I found it very consistent in the summer and am finding it's more hit amd miss in the cold weather.
Great comparison, as usual, with all the facts, figures, and objective opinions to give anyone in the marketplace plenty to think about. I think any Canadian considering these two hybrids really must be a very loyal Honda customer and/or just love the look and drive of the CRV to spend more and choose it over the RAV. It makes no sense otherwise.
you are wrong. I want to buy a hybrid. I prefer rav4 over crv. Rav4 hybrid is 2 years away, crv is 4 months. Now tell me which one I should buy? my current car is almost end of life
Myself and a few die-hard Honda fans are groaning. Honda CRV hybrid may have slightly fumbled the ball. As a current 2007 CRV owner Toyota RAV4 checks more boxes.
@@ebadurrahman8523 I put a downpayment on a Rav4 hybrid on December 9. I picked it up this past Thursday, no up charges, trading in a 2022 Honda CRV Touring. No regrets. I could not get past the horrible info system and navigation system in the CRV. Did not like the lane departure feature that I could not turn off. Funny I traded a Rav4 XLE Premium for the Honda Touring thinking I was trading up, not the case.Big big regret so I went back. So far, 3 days and I am loving my Rav4 hybrid!
Great reviews! As a married person, car nut and armchair microexpression enthusiast, the little index finger cheekbone scratch after the cute girl/cute guy friendly banter is absolutely connected. 😅. Seriously though, your topics are spot on with the kind of real world car shopping I'm into. Looking forward to more of your great videos in the new year!
my wife wants the RAV4 but it was way way louder and rougher feeling and not nearly as comfy or large feeling on the inside. CRV hybrid had a lot of built in things that were special packages with the Toyota and also you have to still be put on a waiting listf for the RAV4. In Arizona currently, the CRV is actually cheaper with similar specs.
I was always a Honda fan until they went to the tiny engines so glad to see it is back up there (2L vs 2.5L Rav) I had a Very crappy experience with Sub(standard)aru Forester & would never touch "them" again. I now have the Rav hybrid and will take it to the end (10+ yr?) Many people dont know the other big advantage of hybrids + a big disadvantage --- the electric takes the strain off the engine / drivetrain with potential cost savings / longevity But, you cant rust proof them & a big issue in salty Canada. Cheers to all in the New Yr!!
I have considered Subaru the last couple of times I have purchased a vehicle but went with Toyota and Honda respectively. The rumor/reputation of oil consuming boxer engines made my shy away. Otherwise they seemed okay.
Honda is walking the same route as Renault/Nissan. Its also in the qashqai. Toyota still has hybrid systems nailed. Personally i prefered the Corolla Cross 2.0 hybrid above the Rav4. Its got the newest (5th edition) version of the hybrid system and has even better fuell economy. Next to that i liked the suspension and the way it handled better then the Rav4. I don’t mind that its a tiny bit smaller, even better, i see that as a pro, the corolla cross is perfect for european traffic and parking.
I would trust Toyota more than Honda if I were going hybrid. And that’s coming from a CRV owner. I have a gas only 2020 model, get 30mpg in mostly (95%) city driving, so based on your experience with the new Honda hybrid can’t imagine why I’d spend more for the complexity of a hybrid model. Sorry to hear the Toyota drives more buzzy and feels less refined, as I’m in the market at the end of 2023.
A lot of people chosing rav4 based on videos and I have driven both, the honda is very smooth and quiet compared to the noisy rav4 cabin and suspension in rav4 feels terrible. With the added torque in the all new crv, I will sacrifice 2 to 3 mpg for the power. Game over for rav4. 163 lb ft in rav4 vs 247 lb ft of torque in crv. Pick your choice
163 is for the gas engine only, add in the the electric motors torque at 149 (89 for the rear) and it works out to be the same as the CRV. In fact the RAV4 hybrid is faster to 60 than the CRV.
Happy holiday. Although RAV4 has an inferior interior quality, its still the compact hybrid SUV of choice because of Toyota's commitment to hybrid technology for over 2 decades. Its also more affordable with an entry-level model. Honda has missed the mark by offering CR-V, and soon Accord, hybrid, as an upmarket trim. There are aplenty of customers who only need a LX or EX. Can't wait for RAV4's complete reboot sometimes next year. That's from a Honda fans, who currently own 2 previous generation Civic.
I have the old one, they said it's bad on highway but I drive 40 mpg highway and 39 in the city. They are test driving with higher rpms and heavy foot on pedal
Glad to see you mention the Honda Insight as the first(?) to offer a Hybrid in North America. Both hybrids have their pros & cons. Guess it boils down to what your priorities are. The e-CVT (at least in the CRV) is not the traditional belt driven CVT. For those who dislike the standard CVTs (myself included), you can look up the e-CVT on UA-cam, especially the videos from Weber Auto to see how they are designed.
@@waynebinky Just out of curiosity, I looked on the Toyota website. The RAV4 Hybrid uses an E-CVT and the non-Hybrid RAV4 uses the 8-speed automatic transmission. From what I understand, all Toyota hybrids use the E-CVT.
Great comparison review, as always 👏 However, I'm still undecided 🤔 Here's a question: If the CRV and the RAV4 were at the same price-point, or if price was not a factor, which vehicle would you choose? And, since I'm retired and don't drive as much, would you still recommend a hybrid or would the gas model be better? Thanks again and Happy New Year, Zach & Andrea! 🥂🎉
Better gas only- the overpriced hybrid by 8k usd- you will never cover this by fuel economy. Also battery and hybrid system problems after 5+ years are very cost to repair.
I would not buy a hybrid. I have had two and the battery both failed at 8 years then the car is worthless. Salesmen say dont worry the battery really lasts 15-20 years, BS. If it did they would warranty it that long. Retired people who do not put on 40K per year should just buy gas model.
Perhaps because you can go to your local Honda dealer and take home a new vehicle today instead of waiting 8 to 10 months for a Toyota to arrive. @@GT-hr9cj
Zack, my brain can't compute the thought process of Honda bean counters in terms of pricing in Canada either. Being a current 2020 CR-V Sport owner, it came better equipped with bigger rims/tires, real exhaust finishers, faux leather/fabric seats compared to the 2023 Sport and was a much better value (under $38000 Canadian all in). Prior to 2020 CR-V, I owned a 2014 and 2009 CR-V EX and they were all trouble free from day one ( all purchased new). If this is Honda's new pricing strategy, I honestly won't be buying another one. My only fear is that Toyota will be watching and jack up prices for the RAV4 if sales of the 2023 CR-V stay steady. However the negative concensus seams to be shared amongst reviewers and owners alike regarding the insane price increase over the previous generation.
@Jay C from what I have bee told it's the fact that Honda is a pretty small company(when you compare to Toyota and VW) with limited R&D budgets. They are a huge ICE manufacturer, but they fell behind in developing hybrids and alternative powertrains. As a result, they are now paying penalties to the governments for not achieving emission standards that were set and now are forced to fork over a lot of cash annually in penalties. The increased pricing on most of their new models is to account for this payout until the EV cars they are partnering up with GM to provide hit the market and start to provide them some lower emissions "credits". They seem to be happy selling less vehicles until then.
Yesterday I test drove brand new Toyota Corolla Cross SE Hybrid here in Langley , BC with sticker price of $48,291. In the afternoon I reserved Honda CRV EX-L Hybrid coming in December for MSRP. Don't let online MSRP pricing be guideline when comparing cars you are considering.
@@modernsoccer1860 I agree. I used to be a Toyota guy and switched to Mazda recently after test driving a bunch of vehicles. The newer models are far better than the older ones though
I always enjoy your videos. I did not notice if you mentioned the Honda engine is turbocharged. The RAV 4 is NA. Might be an issue for long term reliability. In my area of the US, a mid level Honda can be had for about $2,000 less than a comparable Toyota.
The Rav4 Hybrid is my pick for a couple of reasons. First price point. 34k to 45k gives you a broad range of packages. The CRV hybrid is actually the same money as the Venza Limited(which could be looked at as the Luxury Rav4). Is it really nicer than the Venza? 2. The drivetrain. I just think the Toyota hybrid is more adaptable. It can offer engine power to front wheels at any speed can let the engine run at low speeds on the highway, saving gas and wear. The electric rear axle does help getting out of tough spots(just not for hard offroad). Don't get me wrong, the Honda system is still decent. If you drive in the city alot and occasionally do highway trips it will do just fine. Oh, @motormouth Andrea amd Zack goofed: the Prius came out before the Insight. Prius came out in Japan in 97. The Insight made its debut in 99. Both revolutionary vehicles.
Are you joking ? Honda CRV sport touring is comparable to xse rav 4 with technology package which is 41k toyota is more expensive and has worse driving experience
@@alisinabaqeri6081 You talking about the U.S. models? In Canada the XSE is just under 46k(plus taxes). The lone CRV hybrid(in Canada) is over 50k. That's Venza Limited money(in Canada). I haven't driven the new CRV myself and I did not say it drove poorly. I simple said that I think the Toyota hybrid is a better choice for me. I own one, it suits me just fine. P.S. Just because I think the Rav4 Hybrid is better overall for me, doesn't mean I even dislike the Crv hybrid. I'd be happy to consider them if they offered a model like the Toyota LE trim. Not saying I would change my mind, but it would be on my shopping list for sure.
Before May 2021, usually Honda was 15% off MSRP, Toyota was 1000 off MSRP. After that, Honda is MSRP and Toyota is MSRP+20% markup. I always bought Honda because it's cheaper.
Canadian viewer here. As much as I love your vids and get excited about Toyotas, the reality is that it will take anywhere between 6 months to 18 months for high volume Toyota and Lexus dealerships in the greater Toronto area to get inventory of new vehicles. Toyota is not an option for me and I’m looking at other companies.
I just bought the 2023 CRV Hybrid Sport Touring top trim and I love it! I remember test driving a top trim RAV4 and I hated it! I have driven many Toyotas as rentals and they all have this really rough transition shift I just can’t get over. Absolutely TERRIBLE!!!! Hondas a more smooth and to me have better interiors all around. The gas mileage is good enough so I feel like I made the best decision for me.❤️❤️
@@MadLadsAnonymous Agree with you but it provides much more features than what the CR-V provides at almost the same price if you compare the best trims.
Hmm, no mention of the all-wheel drive systems? Looks like you have some snow there, which vehicle handled the slippery conditions better? This is a major factor for me for driving in Alberta… our winters are about 6 months long. I know nothing compares to Subaru’s real all-wheel drive system, but I want a hybrid that is also sure footed on snow and ice… ps, love your channel!
The CRV Hybrid is an EV with a 4 cylinder charger. Both of these vehicles are too expensive for the coming recession. Why can't the regenerative braking just power a motor on the rear wheels. We need a smaller vehicle because many people are going it alone. Like a corrolla or a civic with a 2.5 litre gas engine FWD, with new regenerative braking call it AWD, put some voice activated controls and it should be cheaper and smarter.
CR-V is magic box small midsized outside when you go in and seating feels like full size SUV and well build i just paid deposit and picking up end of the week total of 43.3 K total with dealer fee 3 K not to mention best 2nd rows adjustable seats with more lags room and cleaner floor bumps in the middle expensive but worth the money
You can not compare the 4 years old design on the rav4 and the cr-v is new redesign please don't compare wait for the 2024 redesign for the rav4 that you can compare ok please even the rav4 is older design but still better gas mileage more bigger engine more H P .good luck Honda 👍 thanks for your video
So the CR-V hybrid is slower than it's competitors (8-9sec to 60mph per most reviews), less fuel efficient (several reviewers getting ~31mpg overall) , lacking in features compared to its competitors, AND is more expensive than it's competitors? What happened Honda? Your engineers take a 2 year vacation over the pandemic?
That's what I get on my 2018 Forester. I like the interior of the CRV, but with that mpg, and it failed TFL's slip test, so not impressed with their AWD system. Now waiting to see how the Kia Sportage is after people put some miles on their hybrid system.
@@ishaansaral502 I abandoned ship after a TLX I bought new in 2015. God rid of it in less than 3 years. With that being said,no panoramic sunroof in the all new CRV or Accord. The Accord doesn't no longer offer an engine upgrade. The Koreans are eating Honda's lunch. Honda still thinks it's the 90's.
The RAV4 and the CRV hybrid are not even on the same planet. I'd happily give a few mpg's and pay an additional 10k for the Honda any day. Though it truly is a shame that Canada doesn't get the cheaper hybrid version. The US sport version has just a little less content, but given its lower price tag, it makes it a great deal. If you can live without leather seats, a nav system, and a simpler audio system, you get all the other goodness!
I love Toyota but I bought a Honda because it’s difficult to get you hands on a Toyota without paying a premium. So the price differential is actually the other way round. In US I got a CRV sport AWD for 36k whereas a friend of my bought a RAV4 used with 24k miles on it for the same price.
What will happen to all electrified vehicles once the resources needed to build batteries runs out. When will the infracture be upgraded to accommodate the increase in demand for PHEV or EV for electricity. When will the issues around recycling of batteries be resolved. Until these are answered I will keep my ICE powered car here in Canada. And let's us not forget the inflated price for electrification.
I am 6.3 and I found the Rav4 small. I tried the CR-V hybrid and it is definitely more comfortable and spacious. For the same princing does the Venza worth to look/compare? I heard it is bigger for the driver
I drove both CRV Hybrid and RAV4 Hybrid. To me CRV Hybrid drives way better than RAV4 Hybrid. In terms of top trim CRV Hybrid is the best choice!
If you don’t mind getting ICE mileage and paying for a hybrid on the CRV.
100% agree!!! And this dudes sounds that making a paper based review 😂😂😂😂😂
Not having a spare tire is a real downer. I think Honda is losing a lot of business over that.
I read that more highway and higher speeds over 60 mph will start to get worse mpg. how has it been for you?
only 1 mpg difference
I took short test drives on both vehicles yesterday, and was struck by how loud and rough the RAV4 hybrid felt compared to the more smooth and refined CRV.
Anyone that drives them instantly knows that the Honda is a categorically better vehicle. The RAV4 is screams Im cheap every time you drive it.
Have you tried the RAV4 Prime? If you have, is it loud as well?
Not to be a fanboy, but the RAV4 is, quite frankly, a pretty a sh!tt% car in comparison all around. Every surface plastic, the handling , noise, agility, etc, are just...bad. Its as if Toyota was trying to cut every penny possible. The new RAV4 in fact feels decidedly down rent. The RAV was a nice runabout 20 years ago, now it just seems like they are not even trying.
@@Izaya_Orihara I actually own a '22 RAV4 Prime, but am a lifelong Honda guy and considering swapping it for the new CRV or Accord.
@@Wised1000 cheap…except here in EU it starts at 48000 USD. The CRV at 53000 usd
RAV4 hybrid doesn’t have a cvt. I mean even in this video they stated it.
Also the suspension of the rav4 is very bad and noisy.
I don’t like the look of the RAV 4, but I really do think the CR-V is a very nice looking SUV. It’s on my shopping list, RAV-4 isn’t.
@@jessethompson9087 Then do away with all this hybrid nonsense, and save money by going Nissan Rogue. VC Turbo make it much nicer.
Electrified is just not ready yet.
you also have to wait 2 plus years to get a rav4 hybrid right now.
Probably made in USA
Thank you for comment
I recommend Kia phev. Evs
@@juneaaahn6826 I don’t recommend any Kia as it’s so cheap and poorly built it will get you killed-in-action of driving
Insane!!
Move to US
LOLz Honda guy goes for Toyota LOL,
Their*
Those are Canada price. 2023 Crv in the US are top 40k for the hybrid touring soo no point to blash on honda. It's a Canada problem 😂
Where are you getting the fuel econ numbers from?? At the end of video the ratings looked same in the city and a bit off on highway.
Just bought a 2023 Rav4 Hybrid Limited. You two just solidified that I made the right choice. Old faithful for me!
Rear lights and rear haunch lines.
Yeah, rear Honda CRV look like cheap copy of New Volvo XC60. But buyers don't want copy- then better go to original volvo)
Having a spare tire wins. I've had several flats in my Honda Accord Hybrid, and I can tell you that the tire repair kit is just a useful as a big rock in my trunk. The only way to reliably get anywhere with any car is a spare tire and for that, the RAV4 wins!
I drove both and didn't care for the Rav4 - I now own a 2024 honda crv hybrid touring and LOVE it.
I’m a Honda fanboy but I’d pick the Toyota this time.
Yet you haven't driven any, I have and owns the honda. The rav4 was noisy and suspension very harsh, crv drives superior and my previous car was a Toyota and a Toyota guy
Worked for toyota and honda in the workshop and its honda all the way,
nope you gotta test drive both. you wouldnt say this is you did. yes 100% the rav4 is cheaper and offers better mpg but the crv is better in literally everything else. also its pretty difficult to even get rav4's these days. you'll either be waiting 8+ months or have to pay a markup. With markups the rav becomes the same price as a CRV. Got a CRV the day I walked into the dealership for 1k off msrp.
@@kevanstirling6677Why?

Very great review by both of you again. I seen the cavalry blue up close and it is very beautiful. Love my XSE Hybrid
Spare tire as well.
I reached 43 mpg's, but I average 34 to 38. Hybrid sport touring.
Personally I would go for the Toyota Venza as I think it looks way better than either of these.
excellent review as always.
I would definitely go with Toyota Rav4
much better hybrid system.
Bought the CRV Yesterday, and Love it!
Nice reviews. I lean toward to RAV4 but am happy with my Ford Escape non-hybrid.
At a 5yr old design the Rav4 reigns supreme. MPG, Spare Tire, lower price point.
Rav4 markups in Chicago are crazy as well
I just love your real and honest reviews. So natural and relatable plus you guys are simply too cute. Love you guys and your videos keep up being you!! ❤
Wow, thank you so much, that means a lot to us. We appreciate the support!

I’m a Honda gal for life. Currently driving 2017 V6 engine. Now I’m going to purchase 2024 CR-V Touring w/ Bose speakers 😊.

Hybrids are the vehicles of our time.
Now tell me which one I should buy? my current car is almost end of life

my wife wants the RAV4 but it was way way louder and rougher feeling and not nearly as comfy or large feeling on the inside. CRV hybrid had a lot of built in things that were special packages with the Toyota and also you have to still be put on a waiting listf for the RAV4. In Arizona currently, the CRV is actually cheaper with similar specs.
I’ve test driven both 2024. The CVR is a much more refined vehicle which feels like a very sturdy drive.
The Toyota feels cheap in construction
RAV4 hybrid; working on deadening and sound insulation
@@tails300 but noisy and harsh suspension
@@modernsoccer1860 well you have the Venza as an option too.
Which one would you recommend?
Happy holiday. Although RAV4 has an inferior interior quality, its still the compact hybrid SUV of choice because of Toyota's commitment to hybrid technology for over 2 decades. Its also more affordable with an entry-level model. Honda has missed the mark by offering CR-V, and soon Accord, hybrid, as an upmarket trim. There are aplenty of customers who only need a LX or EX. Can't wait for RAV4's complete reboot sometimes next year. That's from a Honda fans, who currently own 2 previous generation Civic.
If the crv had similar mpg and more trims, it would be an excellent choice! But for me it’s not the one
The mpg is 40 vs 41 in the city. That’s essentially the same isn’t it.
@@gs98999 In the video, they say they could get only 31.. 40 is the EPA although most times you don't get that much.
I have the old one, they said it's bad on highway but I drive 40 mpg highway and 39 in the city. They are test driving with higher rpms and heavy foot on pedal
What do you 2 drive for your everyday vehicle?
Glad to see you mention the Honda Insight as the first(?) to offer a Hybrid in North America. Both hybrids have their pros & cons. Guess it boils down to what your priorities are. The e-CVT (at least in the CRV) is not the traditional belt driven CVT. For those who dislike the standard CVTs (myself included), you can look up the e-CVT on UA-cam, especially the videos from Weber Auto to see how they are designed.
I thought the review said the RAV4 has a CVT. It actually has an 8 speed transmission for 2023.
@@waynebinky Is the RAV4 Hybrid is switching from an E-CVT to an 8 speed transmission in 2023?
@@bho6486 From Car and Driver "The 2023 RAV4 uses a 203-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission."
@@bho6486 I might have heard VVT-i which is variable valve timing.
@@waynebinky Just out of curiosity, I looked on the Toyota website. The RAV4 Hybrid uses an E-CVT and the non-Hybrid RAV4 uses the 8-speed automatic transmission. From what I understand, all Toyota hybrids use the E-CVT.
Great comparison review, as always 👏
However, I'm still undecided 🤔
Here's a question: If the CRV and the RAV4 were at the same price-point, or if price was not a factor, which vehicle would you choose?
And, since I'm retired and don't drive as much, would you still recommend a hybrid or would the gas model be better?
Thanks again and Happy New Year, Zach & Andrea! 🥂🎉
Undecided? If you have $50K to burn on a hybrid, why would you buy a CRV when we were just shown Toyota has much better value for themoney?
Better gas only- the overpriced hybrid by 8k usd- you will never cover this by fuel economy. Also battery and hybrid system problems after 5+ years are very cost to repair.
@@andrewcherry3330 Its not costly at all, because the hybrid systems are covered for 8-10years under warranty.

CRV to impress with look. RAV4 to impress with personality.
Any updates on the cablegate issues in Rav4 hybrid ? I am worried about it so much, my rav4 hybrid is almost ready for delivery.
You said that crv has heated rear seats in sport touring. Are you sure? Because all other bloggers said that only front seats are heated. Thank
Thank you for your awesome review as always! Finally a good looking CR-V. I test drove the new Rav4 and it's zippy.
Forgot to add very noisy, perhaps you won't recognize until you drive both and see how superior the crv drives and I am a Toyota guy
@@modernsoccer1860 I agree. I used to be a Toyota guy and switched to Mazda recently after test driving a bunch of vehicles. The newer models are far better than the older ones though
How are both of these in snow and ice?? What about -15 degrees below
What Venza limited starts at $39k??? The cheapest one is $44k…
@@CM-zl8iu I quoted Rav4 Hybrid pricing, not Venza. The CRV hybrid is close within sneezing distance of the Limited Venza in Canada in way of price
Forget the sticker prices, in my areas you can negotiate better deals on the Honda, for RAV4, they want premium over sticker.
Hi, may I know what's the name of the car you're sitting in?
It is our Porsche Cayenne
The pricing in the US is completely opposite in my experience since the dealerships are marking up the Rav4 Hybrid so much.
Before May 2021, usually Honda was 15% off MSRP, Toyota was 1000 off MSRP. After that, Honda is MSRP and Toyota is MSRP+20% markup. I always bought Honda because it's cheaper.
I bought 2022 rav4 and I have to say just like switch to iphone and you never want to switch back anymore
You left something out, the CRV touring comes with a shaft drive to the back wheels making it awd
Thank you for the video. Great comparison.
Do you have honda pilot 2023 vs highlander 2023 comparison?
Thanks again!
The gas mileage is good enough so I feel like I made the best decision for me.❤️❤️
Rav 4 hands down ,,,, but our 2010 Rav 4 gets combined 9lt per hundred and still going and looking like new .. eh
How would you compare the new CR-V hybrid against the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid with more power and better or similar fuel economy as the CR-V probably
No way Hyundai has Honda's reliability.
Anyone know what car these two are talking from?
It’s definitely a better value in the US, and a very refined car. The first thing my wife has been interested in that’s not a CX-5 style wise
No panoramic sunroof. Honda is a has been. Hyundai is the new Honda. Honda is a has been. No engine upgrade in the 2023 Accord either.
Damn, 31mpg combined? That's very bad.... Might as well not get a hybrid
Lol my thoughts exactly. Honda knows brand loyalty will fool fanboys into buying their overpriced cars. So greedy and disgusting.
Thank you. Im having a blast at the moment knowing i chose the CRV Hybrid Sport Touring over the Rav4 XLE Premium.
I’m waiting for my Honda Sport Touring Hybrid this coming February 2023. I think I’m a loyal Honda customer. 😊
Which car is you’re making this video?
I love Toyota but I bought a Honda because it’s difficult to get you hands on a Toyota without paying a premium. So the price differential is actually the other way round. In US I got a CRV sport AWD for 36k whereas a friend of my bought a RAV4 used with 24k miles on it for the same price.
We just bought the 2024 CR-V Hybrid sport, In US . My wife will be the main driver.
New CRV is bigger inside than the Venza.
What vehicle are they sitting in? Love the sunroof. I don’t see any red or blue stitching on the seats so it doesn’t seem to be neither Rav4 nor CR V
I think they drive a Porsche Cayenne. That's the car they film most of their videos in.
