    Good idea, demonstrates that all can be achieved in Ableton if you willing to spend the time. I prefer DB Glitch though for this effect, much more parameters and Tapestop function sounds amazing. Sugar Bytes Effectrix Plugin is also good at chops if you prefer a step sequencer layout. Good video.

    And I wondered how all the dnb artists get their complex chops. great tutorial!

      and now imagine u have a little crt monitor, IF u have one, and oldschool hardware samplers with little lcd or led screens, and then doin all these weird dnb edits^^. the definition of frickle and fiddle by the likes of squarepusher, goldie, dom&roland, ed rush, roni size, soruce direct and so on. the whole early/mid 90s^^.

      safe to say that most pro's don't use random. some probably do but most chop their breaks with specific intention. Heard pro's say they never use random in the past

      @@beepst there was a thing called protracker... and even if you do it on a mpc or something it sounds impressive but it's not that hard to actually program breaks.

    Great tutorial. I was curious why it doesn't seem to work when use 8 segments (slice to 8 segments instead of 16), even when changing the arp to a different value. I was thinking that with the loop I got there are too many slices giving me bits that are not really audibly valuable so I reduced the sensitivity setting of the simpler slices by 50% and exported to midi then tried to set up the same way and it doesn't sound right.

    Dude, great tutorial!!! I was trying to do it in fruity loops but i find ableton live more user friendly, in special the mixing section. I will try to do those chopping things with some other beats. Thank you so much!!! :)

      +Pedro Rizzi de Oliveira Time to switch to Ableton! Glad you like the tutorial. And yes there is a lot you can do with this technique. I wrote a track recently where I recorded myself hitting random things in my studio, coffee cups and my desk etc.. compressed, rendered and created a random percussion layer for my song. pretty fun stuff.

    • @rizziol
      @rizziol 8 років тому

      Awesome!! Do you have this track available in soundcloud??
      I ve produced some stuff in ableton live and i loved it. But i also love those synths and arpegiators from FL! But you re right.... it s time to let FL go!!! :)

    Where did you get this particular version of the amen break? It sounds nice and crisp. Or did you sample/process it yourself?

    Dope tutorial, this is going to make things a lot more creative..
    However for some reason, not sure why, it only works if i have the gate on 99% or lower, or 101% or higher, when i whack it to 100, it seems to stutter a load.
    I'm re-learning Ableton after years on another DAW though so it could just be me.

    • @Slynk
      @Slynk  7 років тому +1

      +Pixel Dnb yeah that happens to me too. Is doesn't really act as expected sometimes. When you add swing to the arp you have to set the gate to 70 for it to work right.

    Awesome tutorial. I like chopping them up and playing them on an MPC/MPD for that live flow but this is pretty dope for generating random ideas. Check out Spinscott, he's a beast. Also That Incredible remix is fire...is it still available? Looks like Soundcloud police took it down. cheers.

    is it possible to fix the randomization so it is random yet always gives the same result for that session?

    • @deflekt
      @deflekt Рік тому +1

      the arpegiator isset to random, if you set it to UP or DOWN you can get the same result consistently and just choose the part of the midi clip that you need, OR you can just resample and use it as samples so you can build the track and use the same break consistently even layer it with the random arp, seems from here you can get it were ever you like, if its only random generated or resample your section and use it during the track :)

  • @76caveman
    @76caveman 8 років тому

    Great stuff cheers, i know this is old now BUT how do you stop it randomising when yr happy with how it come out???

    • @Slynk
      @Slynk  8 років тому +1

      +76caveman There is a few ways to do this. You could record the audio to a new audio channel and then cut the pieces out you like and delete the parts you don't like. OR you could set up the arpeggiator on a different midi channel and send that random midi information to the amen drum rack and use that channel to record the incoming random midi so that you can edit it.

    I mean, if you create your own audio loops cool but if you are just using loops wtf is the point? Using loops for ALL of your drums is cheating and is a large part of perfecting music production skills by creating multiple parts of your drums. Some loops are okay but you should show a drum loop created and then you create an audio loop by bouncing it out of the MIDI and then create this effect...eh, boring tutorial.
