    To add to your excellent video on Hereditary: from an occult point of view, when Joan appears in the distance screaming at Peter, this is her will. Her magic, her intent, is present, and the camera movements in which Peter senses he is being haunted/stalked by something invisible and horrifying is the spell taking action. As a matter of fact, Peter is shown early in the movie as experiencing piercing chest pains and an inability to breathe. That is a binding, and in this particular case, an extreme form of binding, caused by an entire coven. Clearly, the director did his homework on the occult to make it as grounded in reality as possible.

    something i want to add to your explanation... Annie was estranged from her mother during her pregnancy with Peter, and when he was a baby because Annie severed ties with her... then when they came back into eachothers lives, Annies mom did the ritual on Charlie and basically became surrogate to Charlie, insted, because she missed her chance with Peter..... The severed birds head, Charlie puts on a little toy body she made signifying, the removal of her head and basically placing it on Peters body... The sleep walking episode where Annie pored paint thinner on Charlie and Peter, was a spell, a possession, intended to separate Annie from her children. Specifically Peter. To cause a rift. The pot use, by Peter, i think, is symbolic of separating him from his body. loosening his hold on his own body. which is why Peter had that strange choking/coughing fit while he was smoking pot, and why hes stoned through the entire movie... and i think the shiny light you see when Paimon is present, also is supposed to be like the light from a lens, like the magnifying lens Annie uses when shes making her models, to signify Paimon looking in with a magnifying lens.

    Really enjoyed this analysis with the references to mythology ! Very good job, Lucas blue!

    • @lucasblue20
      @lucasblue20  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you!! Yeah I thought the Greek mythology piece would be a cool touch because it’s such a brief moment that still captures the movie’s meaning so well! I’m really glad you enjoyed! Thank you for watching!!

      @@lucasblue20 this myth is quite unique as in greek mythology often people can't fight fate and every passion is seen as an external locus (devine will) but Héraclès is a kind of a modern hero : he chooses to seek redemption and therefore exercice his free will. I don't know the film (btw, Toni Colette is a favorite of mine too😀) but wonder if the reference to Héraclès in particular is insignificant : our heritage mould us and can make it quite difficult to build properly one's ego (self-consiousness/awareness) but in fine, it's all about choice or quite of it

    • @lucasblue20
      @lucasblue20  3 роки тому +1

      It’s super interesting to hear that Greek mythology has so much to do with fate and determinism. So yeah, I guess Heracles is a unique and fascinating figure in Greek mythology because he is trying his best to exercise his free will even though there may be no point in it at all. This conversation really clarifies for me how dark the ending of this movie is. It really isn’t optimistic at all haha but it’s certainly thought provoking about what we can and can’t control and the influence of our bloodline. I guess I just gotta love my family, believe in myself, and try my best to be virtuous if that’s all I can do haha

    Watched this a few days ago. Amazing and scary horror film that doesn't rely on lazy jump scares. Great video as always, you explained the film thoroughly in a short enough time. Btw I watched Possession (1981) and would really love to hear your take on it.

      Thank you so much! And yeah haha I agree, modern horror can be pretty forgettable a lot of the time. This one is so thoughtful with its direction, and the themes covered in this film fit perfectly to balance horror and drama. I can’t wait for Ari Aster’s third feature-length film. I’m so happy you enjoyed this one! Thank you so much for watching!!

    Toni Collette, Lupita Nyong’o, and Florence Pugh were all robbed of Oscars for their remarkable performances in classic horror films. The Academy’s contempt for the genre is criminal.

    i just watched this the other day and i must say it is amazing my boy ZOSO who got me on to A24 in general said people compare this and MIDSOMMER to the LIGHTHOUSE and the WITCH as in a director battle but they are all outstanding but nothing compares to *THE WITCH*

    Your videos are thoughtful, and interesting, BUT your delivery is distracting. Your cadence. The way you say a few words PAUSE then a few more words PAUSE. Don't know why but it's irritating. Constructive criticism so don't hate me.
