I lived & worked in a major Asian capital city for 4 years. My kids went to school there. I experienced the power & influence of the saving face culture first-hand literally hundreds of times, from the seemingly innocuous (albeit obnoxious) to being dragged into labour court to defend two pages of 100% fabricated, unprovable lies by an employee & I walked away from that having to pay the guy two of the three months' salary he sued for. Corruption was epidemic & intrinsic to every aspect of life there, foreigner or national - from traffic police bribes to having to literally budget for the inevitable bribe to get building plans approved to a large institution being unable to fire a thief because their family was connected & sooo much more. The cultural differences became more pronounced as the years went by & the incompatibilities more obvious. Western values meant little to nothing. Ultimately, I was a guest in that country & they had no responsibility to cater to my beliefs so I packed up & returned to my own country. Was it a good experience for me & my kids? Yes & no. Would I do it again? Nope.
I'm VERY Disappointed that this appeal from Law Enforcement didn't include any mention of what "hard evidence" existed against these 3 men. If eyewitness testimony is all they had, then it certainly doesn't inspire any confidence in me that they are actually guilty because eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable. I HOPE that the police do have some "hard evidence" against these men, but in any case I myself wouldn't respond to this appeal even if I knew that the guy lived next door. WHY ??? Just ask one of the 1000's of wrongfully convicted murderers that Innocence Projects have exonerated in the last 30 years. Any one of them would happily tell you WHY. There is NO Way that I would ever turn in a fugitive just on the word of the police.

No, it does not happen anywhere, anytime. Do not generalize it and make it a social normalcy. I lived right there on Tyler st in 2002 and had no idea of this before which is surprising as I read a lot on Boston true crime as before I moved into Chinatown I lived in Dorchester right near Whitey Bulgers personal grave yard under the highway. Chinatown was an odd area, during the day it was all Chinese but as soon as it got dark all the Chinese disappeared and prostitutes and crack dealers filled the streets. At the time it was clear there was some sort of understanding with the cops that it was allowed to happen. The Asian gangs had nothing to do with non asians but there were a lot of shops that operated in gray areas of weapons and bootlegging dvds and a lot of unmarked doors next to the Chinese restaurants that served alcohol after hours that people shuffled into quickly and you wouldn't want to have a group pour out of if you caused trouble.

At least, in this episode, not everyone is "bubbly" nor "picture perfect" or living in an "upscale neighbourhood". Nor were the victims killed by their own spoiled brat-offspring. So that is positive. Like a famous 1940's singer songwriter sang: you've got to ac-cen-tu-ate the positive....
Im so glad I got out of Boston before this. I loved Chinatown and ate my breakfast there and shopping too. Boston should be safe.
"Big Trouble in Little Chinatown" ! R.I.P. ALL ❤🙏
I'm sorry for what happened to the people but this is a really good an interesting film
I was Working 2 blocks away as a bartender that night, it was a chaotic night downtown. Whenever the chinatown gang members would come in the bar after that night, everyone would get so nervous that you could cut the tension with a knife. A year or so before that night I was walking through the little park in Chinatown and I stepped over a guy I thought was passed out drunk, later on I found out he was dead. He was killed by some gang because he would not pay protection money, he had $5000 in his pocket that was untouched. He was a Chinese business man.
Wow.
Boston used to be quite dangerous in that era.
The suspects fled?? You mean you actually let them leave it was days and days after you knew their names, so why were they not put on a border watch list?
Let's be honest no one at the border is looking at who is fleeing. They only care who is trying to get in.
Seems like the detective was newly posted in this area and the day he joined the office this interview was done. So please pardon him for not knowing the surrounding, because his tongue slip and he said "we don't witness massacre in Boston area". This gunshot and killing was first in the history of Boston, Massachusetts.
Why are people so surprised, there are ethnic Vietnamese people that were raised/born in China just as there are ethnic Chinese people raised/born in Viet Nam. They're neighbours lol
I believe most people understand but its the first time that ever thought of Vietnamese person going up in China or vise versa
The Vietnamese in China called Jing people.
Imagine a place called the Combat Zone without a massacre or 2. I mean Boston was built on Massacres
It’s a trip hearing those Viet guys speak Chinese. It’s always Chinese guys speaking Vietnamese in Cali.
Those 2 Vietnamese suspects are most likely Hoa (ethnic Chinese). Many of the Vietnamese boat people are ethnic Chinese.
There were many Vietnamese who speak cantonese.
Here in Cali, it's always been normal hearing Viets speak Chinese as most are Ethnic Chinese who speak multiple dialects in one sentence.
I wonder where you live that it doesn't seem normal to you.
@@msbrownbeast Bro, there's so many different dialects that are similar to Cantonese like Nai or Hai Namese or many of the others from Vietnam
@@josephgee2515 weird, I am in SD and frequent OC and LA often.
They " Don't encounter massacres in Boston". Except for this one. And blackfriars. And the 99 diner. And The Boston massacre
Yeah the guy can’t even call himself a Bostonian saying that honestly because what are you talking about 😂
Did he say that massacres don’t happen in Boston?
Nor tea parties
Stephen The Sky Dragon Tse was convicted of two counts of attempted murder in the mid 90's, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and then, POOF, he disappeared.
I remember America's Most Wanted did a piece about this tragedy.
I can't believe I'm just seeing and hearing this for the first time. I live just a few miles away but have been to China town so many times. They got great massage parlors.
Chinatown is a very small section of Boston but it's a nice little spot and it's definitely like its own separate community.
That is an understatement! BPD are 'corrupt' from the top down!
I'm from Boston and you can't pay me to live there
My family sold our triple decker in 1964, we could see it coming to Dorchester, our tenants came from Boston, they thought it was safe in Dorchester. $60.00 a month water and heat included😅 " Boston Strangler made everyone terrified! Sold it for $2,700! Now worth over a million.
Dude, that's a long time ago...might as well talk about the British atrocities of the Chinese when it comes to forced opium addiction
I was jump in middle school by an Asian gang in Charlestown, but I never had hate for the Asian community’s or people that come to this country for freedom. The culture is a staple of Boston and appreciate the history knowledge
30:28 you can see 3 of the younger victims are also Vietnamese while the other 2 Chinese victims are in their 50's. It looks like the 3 gunmen went in to kill those 3 younger Vietnamese?
Dear God, when it comes to gangs, bullys, worthless, violent human beings,, can yu give good ppl the courage to speak up and NOT BE COWARDS. Thank you. Amen.
23:56 - horrible crime scene...
Damnn don't watch this when you're hungry, that Chinese food looks soo good right now! 🤤😍
I remember this like it was yesterday I was only 10
It won't surprise me if they had made meatballs of the unarrested shooter years ago.
Thank you for this video. I remember a similar case in WA State years ago, but I don't remember this case.
The Wah-Mee Massacre.
@@patmccormick9972 Thank you.

I just had a great day in Chinatown the other day!
Some of these interviews seem a bit of a stretch for being relevant to the case. 🤷🏾♂️
Any word on the people that died maybe a name or picture a family member interviewed 😮
Why is this not a Mark Wahlberg movie ..
No, it does not happen anywhere, anytime. Do not generalize it and make it a social normalcy. This happened because of gangs ties and of the criminal underworld where illegal environment and plenty of money provide the opportunities for criminals to commit their crimes. It includes gambling, smuggling, drugs, prostitution, money laundering, and all other illegal stuff.
Never knew Boston had a Chinatown. I guess Chinatown is in every state.
Hell yea Chinatown used to shake back then

@@gij123Absolutely!😊
not to state the obvious- but wasn't that area of Boston also known affectionally as the "Combat Zone"...???
You cannot co-exist with the devil!

The people from Chinatown who were interviewed came across really shady and knowing.

I feel so sorry for all the family members.🙏.
to compare a grievously injured person to a 'guppy' is one of the most ignorant things i've heard in a while. who is that goon
I was in Boston in the late 80s early 90s it was a nice place they saying it was crazy it wasn't crazy it was the most laid-back City I ever saw I'm from the New York area
You must of not lived in Roxbury back then

We're you in Boston or were you a student in Boston?
The students were pretty segregated from the townies back then.
People thinking they're minding their own business is causing the most trouble.those gains need to think everybody's watching them and they're not going to put up with this s*** that's just spineless crap.
Why wait 30 years to put it out there, why not back in 1991?
This was a huge news story when it happened. Just because you are just now hearing about it yourself doesn’t mean it wasn’t “put out” when it happened. j/s
was there a movie made about this?
Not that I am aware of
There’s hardly anyone in this entire documentary with any relation to China whatsoever.
Is the lady still afraid to call the godfather/sky dragon a mobster or is she in denial?
This hits close to home. Im chinese, also born in 1991, used to go to these type of gambling dens in chinatown NYC with my parents as a kid to watch them play Maj Jong instead of cards. We got robbed gunpoint at one of these dens by masked men once, wasnt gang related so they didnt shoot anybody but took everyones money. Scarred me as a kid seeing that.
That must've been so scary! I'm sorry that happened to you as a kid.
Enough movies made in Hong Kong depict all these horrors in extreme graphic details.
I love my community , no snitch we mind our business.
The whole “stop snitching” movement actually started in Boston.
They will never find that guy......if he went into hiding back to Vietnam and lived to be an old man.....he died as a old man. He will answer in his next life, there is no escape for that. As far as the chinese community talking, that will never happen. They may talk about the case among each other in gatherings, but to go on record or talk to authorities.....that will never ever happen. As horrible as people being killed execution style.....they chinese community will rather move on with their lives. And that 's not just the chinese community in Boston but will chinese people everywhere. I was taught at a very young age, even if we saw everything, and it happened if front of us....we are to look down and keep our mouth shut unless you want problems arise to you and everyone you know. I know thats wrong but this how it was instilled in us.
So a community used to covering up crimes en masse? Interesting indeed.
@@PrinceCezar27 I agree with Rob Tam- it's not covering up a crime. It's not getting involved because there is fear of repercussion/revenge/being a rat- similar to the Mafia.

“this doesn’t happen in Boston” sent me to the moon 😂
Right I guess they forgot about a guy named whitey bulger over in southie. This whole thing was them continually just repeating that, like how hard is it to fathom a gunfight in a underground card game with a lot of cash floating around in an area ride with gangs. Doesn't even seem like they had evidence other than the guy half alive who still had a bullet in his head, so he just said it was them and that's that nothing on their trial or anything
12:34 David Hasselhoff also came to help with the mess
Gotta appreciate how stylish Phams Phro is
That aged photo looks very familiar.
No matter how serious something is on you tube all you find is people who think they are stand up comedians

This case is overrated and is the only china town case they ever talk about. The suspect that got away was living here in South Philly under a different name and have his own business.
Agreed over the top. However Chinese do love gambling.
All the names appear to be Vietnamese so the FBI should focus on the Vietnamese community rather than the Chinese community.
The names are Korean!

This made me hungry for Chinese food
Me too 🍚🍜🍤🥠🥡
I lived right there on Tyler st in 2002 and had no idea of this before which is surprising as I read a lot on Boston true crime as before I moved into Chinatown I lived in Dorchester right near Whitey Bulgers personal grave yard under the highway.
I still hope, you know, they find him you know.
Chinatown is a nasty place. i used to work down there. Grime city smfh
