I guess I have been watching Runny-san since 2011 or 2012. When he cooked based on foreigner request in a video.
But now in 2021 i still love his channel. It is not a fancy or a high quality one. But it feels like eating a home cooking dish. So comforting and easy to enjoy.

So wonderful to see you again.
I commend you on your bravery. I appreciate your genteel acceptance of a taste you did not prefer, and your willingness to keep eating, until you saw it was just something very different, and not really something that you wanted to finish, or eat again. I agree, the combination was marketed as a novelty/for silliness, that can be eaten, but is more for the uniqueness or the humor than serious food.... sort of like popping cooking sushi or hamburger candy (but, that's supposed to be fun to eat, not unusual or offputting).
I'm guessing that you already know:
Historically, apples have been used in savory dishes: stews, sauces, sausage, meat pies, etc. They add texture and bulk, and some sweetness to the food. But, that was centuries ago. Now, it's less common, I suppose. Or, maybe it's regional? (Where apples are inexpensive, they're often in a variety of dishes. )
I am familiar with the taste of apple in savory things; often with pork (applesauce)
or chicken (chicken apple sausage or dumplings)
And in things like crab or tuna salad.
But, the seasoning is usually savory (European herbs, like basil, oregano, thyme or rosemary)
Apple pie seasoning (sweet spice) would make it taste more like Morocco, or India, or something like that, I would guess. That taste combination, plus the apple, when you're used to soy sauce & spice by themselves, or with complimentary flavors (Im trying to describe the sauce/broth of the fry noodle dish taste) does sound like a joke. [A joke like chocolate covered bacon. But, different tastes of course. And, I like chocolate covered bacon...sometimes. ]

Dessert yakisoba... no... I'm from Poland (live in Sweden) and there are old polish recipes of fruit soups (which are really good on their own, no pasta) with pasta added sometimes. My mom made this years ago and all I can say is: no thanks. The pasta flavor does not go well with fruit.
