This song is an Australian great, it was co writted by Icehouse lead singer Iva Davies and John Oates from Hall and Oates, you will also hear John Oates's voice on the backing vocals too.
Iva's Electric Blue mullet is the most epically luxurious mullet to ever mullet, it almost makes me forgive mullets for existing lol Icehouse are amazing live, I was only a kid in their day, but I got to see them a few times in the 2010s and Iva is magical, especially on Man of Colours with the oboe, as you've discovered already. I've collected a heap of Icehouse reissue vinyls, they're my favourite Aussie band.
Awesome, love this song, other fav's from them, Hey, little girl ( 1982 ) and Great Southern Land ( 1982 ), hard to call the best between Electric blue ( 1987 ) and Great Southern Land.
Showing my age a bit but remember when this came out in 1987, One of the greatest bands to come out of Australia that is still going strong today (currently touring Australia at the moment) Iva always had the most glorious mullet!
Great reaction. In the 80’s we had Icehouse, Farnsy, and Barnsey smashing out so many awesome songs. Icehouse don’t seem to get the accolades despite having more success internationally than a lot of other Aussie bands and singers. This song charted in the top 10 in the U.S. Crazy, Great Southern Land, No Promises and My Obsession are great songs as well.
Although this is one of their most popular songs and was their breakthrough hit in the USA, it’s a collaboration with John Oates of Hall and Oates. I always hear a lot of the Hall and Oates influence in this track and I never really considered it a “typical” Icehouse song (which isn’t to knock it, it just doesn’t really sound like the rest of their stuff). So in some ways it’s not the best introduction to the band’s sound- some other song choices that are more typical of Icehouse as a whole would be Great Southern Land, Hey Little Girl, Street Café, Don’t Believe Anymore, Dusty Pages, No Promises, Baby You’re So Strange and Crazy. They have a pretty deep catalogue and the album tracks are usually pretty good as well.
It's Icehouse through and Through. Let's get this straight you can't bring back time. This is a Ice house song. Only ever got Ussie recognition and remains intrinsically an Aussie song. Say what you will.
Crazy by Icehouse A MUST SEE Favorite singing part for me is when he says... So if I'm dreaming don't wake me tonight. Also when they first started out as a band they were called FLOWERS, but they had to change it as another band had the name. They changed their name to ICEHOUSE and Icehouse is the first track on their 1st album called ICEHOUSE, that they released under the band name FLOWERS. So that song title Icehouse, is what they changed their name to. And by the way, that song called Icehouse by them is so bloody amazing vocally, a very haunting sounding song and still my all time one i love the most and listen to😁 Still have the original FLOWERS...ICEHOUSE vinyl too😃 🙏💜💜💜
Love this tune. One of my favourites as a kid. Great album too. “Man of colours “ heartbreak kid and crazy were another couple top tunes from that album.
Glenn Reither is the saxophonist, still performing with Icehouse from time to time and over the years he has worked with lots of artists including Jon Stevens, Daryl Braithwaite, Jack Jones, Guy Sebastian, Russell Morris, and a whole lot you haven’t heard of yet - don’t worry there is heaps more Aussie talent to uncover. Glenn has worked internationally as well, he also plays keyboards.
They’re still together and still touring. Lead singer is Iva Davies. When they first formed they were called Flowers. They changed their name to Icehouse.
You gotta hear Great Southern Land by Icehouse , Aussie anthem , he wrote it while flying over Australia on tour . Great Southern Land, This is Australia on UA-cam
Yahh! I had a poster of Icehouse on the back of my bedroom door as a teenager! Haha. "Crazy" is also a good one and of course "Great Southern Land" is basically an Australian anthem. 🇦🇺
lilcazza, I had a full length poster of Iva Davies on the inside my wardrobe door, until my now exhusband made me take it down. Loved all of their music.
Definitely second Crazy as one to check out. I like that one much better Electric Blue, which is no shade on the latter but Crazy is without a doubt the better song.
I have been lucky enough to have had a few encounters with the lead singer Iva Davies….. I’ve been part of his backing choir for more than one event, particularly singing Great southern land, AND when I graduated my music course at TAFE (college), Iva was the guest key note speaker, as the head of music at the TAFE was the bass player for icehouse (but not when this song was done I believe)
Classic Aussie rock just rules! Icehouse, Noiseworks, 1927, Cold Chisel and many many more. Just damn good music that never gets old. We know all the words lol
I remember when Iva was on Spicks and Specks (a Australian tv music quiz show - name comes from the Beegee's song) - John told Iva if Icehouse did not end up recording it Hall and Oats would!
Icehouse are still together touring Australia... ive seen them live like 4 times and they are just phenomenal to experience live... all time Great Australian band.
Another brilliant Aussie rock band that did the hard yards in the 80s and 90s all over the country playing in pubs and clubs nightly with crowds of like 200 people. They were brilliant live.
Saw them perform in Hobart just last night! Iva Davies is 65 now - his voice was still pretty good. They had lots of hits to play and it was so nice to support some music acts after all the covid dramas. The highlight of the concert for me, was actually James Reyne - formerly of the band Australian Crawl. He sounded better yesterday than he did in the 80s!
Electric Blue has been recently covered by the Killers. Check it out. Iva Davies is an Aussie Legend. He loves performing live and is very entertaining.
I saw Icehouse live with Foreigner back in the day. Fantastic concert! Electric Blue was written by Iva Davies and co written by John Oates (of Hall & Oates fame) Simon Lloyd is the saxophonist.
That was the Aussie music scene in 80's .Great band still to today .I actually heard an interview with him only day ago saying how they are set to do some concerts very soon ,first ones since covid .... and how he is coming down here to Tasmania which is further south of Australia ...to drive across Tassie in his new car ... exciting !
Oh, wow, flashback to my childhood! I have always loved this song; it instantly transports me to my 10-year-old self. This is such a happy, melodic pop song.
Oh yeah it was the 80's, and thank you for the 'mullet' appreciation, lol. Billy Ray Cyrus, eat your heart out, Iva Davies had the most iconic mullet of the 80's, I'll fight anyone who says otherwise. : ) He is a great singer and they had some amazing tracks, love this reaction as always.
🔥🤘 Another One of My Most Favourite Aussie Bands from the 80's, 90's ! ☄💥 Iva Davies and the Band have some awesome tracks - Crazy , Hey little Girl, Great Southern Land , Can't Help Myself, My Obsession ( Fav ) ,My Promises etc .. Awesome⏰ Times and Memories ❣ Thanks Nic ! 🤜🏼🤛🏾
co-written by Iva Davies and John Oates (of Hall & Oates). John Oates contacted Iva as he was a huge fan. If Icehouse had not released the song it would have been a Hall & Oates song.
The first song you watched was Man of Colors live. Icehouse played in my hometown during a local festival back in the day and there was a fairly high ticket price to get in so most of the crowd just partied and danced outside. They had some great songs.
Released on 31 August 1987 from the Man of Colours album and was the first Australian album to have five singles charting in the top 30. The sax is Simon Lloyd. The actress is Paris Jefferson.
He doesn't have the mullet anymore, but still has the voice! One of my favourite songs of all time. I saved my pocket money as a 9yo to buy Man Of Colours on cassette and played it over and over. Album still holds up. The Electric Blue sax solo is perfect, so too in Don't Believe Anymore - highly recommend you check out all the songs others are suggesting... thanks for this Reaction 😀
As a long-time fan of Icehouse, it's brilliant to hear such positive reactions to a band I've loved since 1987. Lead singer Iva Davies, Simon Lloyd on sax. Guitarist Bob Kretschmer, bass Stephen Morgan and Paul Wheeler on drums.
Inspired my love for the saxophone 🎷 in pop music , Great southern land, taking me back to my late teens Disco dancing days...1977 Crowned Disco Queen👸💅 💃
Thank you buddy for finding another very talented Australian band Ice House. This song takes me back to my teenage years in the 80’s. If you get a chance please go checkout another Australian band called Crowed House please watch there live performance at the Sydney Opera House. Any mate again thanks for cheering me up with your great personality.
A very young Ivor Davies here, this was 80’s music and has definitely stood the test time. Also thank you for loving our music. We kind of get looked over here. However the amount of talent we have is enormous. 🎼❤️🇦🇺❤️🇺🇸🕺🏻💃🎸☘️
One of the most underrated songs of the 80s. It's absolutely fantastic and deserves to be way more known today than it is. But that could also be a good thing being a hidden gem to the general public as to avoid overexposure
I remember dancing to this many years ago at a school disco lmao….. so many memories come from music. Thanks mate for giving us a channel not only with great reactions to great music, but reminding us these songs exist. Since finding your channel my playlist has doubled!!!!!!!
One of my high school teachers dated Iva Davies. Flowers (Icehouses original name) used to play concerts at Cumberland High School sometimes. How lucky were we.
The keyboard player/vocalist Andy Quunta is one of 4 writers for Your The Voice!.... Along with Chris Thompson (Kiwi-NZ) from Manfred Mann's Earth Band.
Fun fact:the woman is Australian singer/actress Cassandra Delaney, who was married to US folk singer legend John Denver(author of Country Roads and you did a reaction to his song 'Calypso') in the 90s. She is also in the Crazy video, which is also a banger. She & Denver had a very acrimonious divorce.
I was around 12 years old when this song came out. I remember I wore an Icehouse t-shirt to Dreamworld and a creepy middle aged guy told me he thought I was wearing a Penthouse t-shirt.
80s for sure. They have a few iconic Aussie songs from that era as well. I saw Icehouse in concert in Mount Isa mid/late 80s. Everyone was out of their seat dancing or standing on the tables. Great show.
Thatsingerreactions, I’m an Aussie through and through, live in Australia, bro, we had some of the best music in the world. So many great bands to choose from. Take your pick! 😁 I love this song, one of my favorites. You are listening to the short version of this song, there is an extended version of this song which is awesome!
When it's ur Weds it's our Thurs. Icehouse Great Southern land & Miss Divine are great songs esp Great Southern Land which is a story of our country & is so iconic that 30+ years later the Aussie cricket team has this song blaring as they take the field for each session of the days play for the whole 5 days no matter if we are going out to bat or bowl. It's also used for the shorter version games, day/nighters & T/20's where there's only 2 sessions of play, one batting then bowling or vice versa. It's extremely patriotic, it sends chills down my spine & i also have tears in my eyes. If u liked The Seekers I am Australian then you'll love Great Southern Land also & another song about our gorgeous, unique, mysterious island continent is called "Sounds of Then" ("This is Australia") by Gangajang
Great video! This was a favourite of mine in like 5th grade lol. There was another band “1927” that had a song called “If” around the same time .. I think you would like it 🌺
Classic Aussie song. Still hear this on the radio, especially in certain department stores or supermarkets. I saw them in 2020 as part of firefight Australia fundraiser concert. And once before that, several years ago, with Michael paynter. Fantastic music. Iva Davies is great. "Crazy" and "great southern land" are some other classics from Icehouse.

The model in the video was John Denver's wife and John Oates (from Hall and Oates) cowrote this song. Neat facts.
That's Paris Jefferson. John Denver's wife was Cassandra Delaney.

Great Southern Land over Electric Blue every time

I like Trogan Blue
Thanks! I never knew why, now I do. Its the only Icehouse song I don't like!
It’s very, very Hall & Oates sounding!
It's Icehouse through and Through. Let's get this straight you can't bring back time. This is a Ice house song. Only ever got Ussie recognition and remains intrinsically an Aussie song. Say what you will.
Definitely one of the best mullets of the 80s Bono from U2 had a great one then too. Love Icehouse this is the music of my teenage years . ❤
Crazy by Icehouse A MUST SEE

Yep, Man of Colors is an awesome album - one of my all-time favourites. :)

Listen to "We can get together". They had a hit with it twice, once as the Flowers, and then as Icehouse. Definitely my favorite of theirs.

I’m glad they changed their name from Flowers to Icehouse
First album was
Icehouse by The flowers but they reversed it
Flowers by Icehouse
That was because there was an American group called Flowers and they had the copyright.
@@originalpottsy I believe it was a Scottish group called The Flowers that was the reason for the change of name.

Roller skating rinks across Australia played this relentlessly. My childhood memory right here 😂✌

Yes they are still together and still tour :) I am going to see them on Saturday night and cannot wait !!!!
