Lesson 4 | Students of Imam Malik + The narrators of Muwaṭṭa

In this video, we delve into the key narrators and transmission chains found in Imām Mālik's Al-Muwaṭṭa’, one of the earliest and most important collections of Hadith and Islamic jurisprudence. We focus on the prominent companions of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) whose narrations are featured in the text, along with their associated chains of transmission. For example:
Ibn Umar’s narrations are primarily transmitted through Nāfi’.
Ā'ishah’s (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا) narrations often come via Al-Zuhrī from 'Urwah and Al-Qāsim ibn Muhammad.
Abū Hurayrah’s (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) narrations are frequently relayed through Abū Zīnād from Al-A'araj.
Anas’s (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) narrations are commonly traced back through Al-Zuhrī and Ḥumayd.
Imām Mālik meticulously compiled Al-Muwaṭṭa’ over 40 years, with approximately 1,400 individuals worldwide narrating from him. However, only about 20 to 30 of these narrators are well-documented today. From them the most notable is Yaḥyá ibn Yaḥyá al-Laythī.
