The most lightweight pure Peugeot rally car and front wheel drive you will ever see driven by the most characteristic and seriously quick drivers you will ever see....legends
The WRC teams and drivers were completely stunned when these guys came at the start. Being even faster on tarmac, quickly changing the rules to make sure the kitcars couldn’t compete throughout the whole season. Looks and sounds the best!

The ultimate front-wheel drive car in rally racing! "The killer of Giants" who looked the WRC 4WD in the eye! He won even in the icy specials in Monte Carlo for those who remember. Maybe it would spoil the soup, that's why they withdrew it.
306 Maxi was very fast and competitive on tarmac, especially on dry tarmac, no doubt about that. But it didn't win at Monte Carlo. It was 2nd in 1996 Monte Carlo rally with Delecour, but it wasn't a WRC event (due to the rotation system). Winner of that event was Patrick Bernardini with Escort Cosworth Gr.A, by a big margin (3+ minutes). In Monte Carlo 1998 Panizzi managed to win one stage though, but in the end of the event he was 9th and 11+ min behind the winner (C.Sainz).
Casual reminder that these cars ran parallel helical gear limited-slip differentials, which means their engagement force (how much or little the diff allows the wheels to spin at more similar rates (locked) or allow them to spin at less similar rates (open) is a function of the input torque. Now to say that in plainer English, the more you press the gas/brake pedal, the more closed the diff becomes which results in more grip. Great for the straighter bits, but can make cornering a real hassle - but that's just me, these two guys squeezed and strained every last bit of performance from those cars and MAN what a sweet sound; as long as you didn't go deaf, anyway.
Its incredibly weird to me but this car framed what is my ideal for a mean cool car. The white rims, the tail lights, the boxyness, the side flares. Even tho I think the impreza sound was even better., my idea of a perfect rallycar it this one flying down a hill on corsica screeching tires on the tarmac. perfection.

I never understood how they were faster than the wrc cars. I mean ok the weight...
@@ruxal9782 They were purposely built for tarmac, They were light, powerful and agile. The perfect weapon on the hands of a fast driver.
I remember someone describing them as basically being rally-spec Super Touring (FIA Class II) cars, which makes too much sense not to be true.

Peugeot's lethal one-two punch, Delecour & Panizzi. Didn't matter whether it was the 3- or 206, these frenchies flew as fast as lightning on tarmac.
