I agree with your review of the GD3WH head, I have been using one since it was released. One additional point that frustrates me greatly is that whilst the clamp works very well on L-brackets and long Arca-Swiss plates. If you want to use a short plate, such as the popular Peak Design Capture Clip plate, the GD3WH's Arca-Swiss rail has an unnecessary cut-out, in the centre opposite the clamp jaw, that prevents secure clamping of short plates. Why cripple a great product for those that hike to landscape locations using the popular PD Capture Clip, or any other short Arca-Swiss plate for that matter.
I agree with you on the odd AS clamp design - it is better than the Manfrotto alternative (no AS compatibility), but the Benro clamp limits AS compatibility to some degree...there are a few of my favorite plates and one L-bracket (due to another oddity of the Benro clamp along one edge) which do not work on my GD3WH head. Oh, well...
Great review. Thank you. I was thinking of getting one but it looks like the uppermost knob may interfere with the base of a view camera.
I think a chunky three-way Gitzo is the order of the day for you. I wouldn’t use this for a view.
Thank you for an extremely helpful review.
