It depends on the size of the canvas + it's a matter of taste. On a small canvas, my smallest round brush may be 00, but that's only if I really feel like painting detailed. Most of the times I prefer to indicate details rather than to paint them, especially if it's background stuff. But on a larger canvas, it may be 1 or even 3 or bigger. A larger painting is usually viewed from a larger distance, therefore it's not necessary to paint very tiny small details. However, all of this is a matter of personal taste and style, if you want to paint hyperrealistic, than feel free to do so and use small brushes. With a more loose painting style, you hardly need to use very small brushes. 👍
