- How I change the final drive oil in my 2005 BMW K1200R.
Note: The original fluid capacity was 230ml from factory however a service update for my bike reduced this to 180ml to reduce seal failure. Check you own service schedule for levels in your bike. - Авто та транспорт
One more item of note is to clean off the wheel to hub connection point before reinstalling the rear wheel. This is an aluminum to SS connection and corrosion bonding happens at this connection point. Use a tooth brush and pick to clean out the corrosion on the wheel. And clean the hub of same. Apply a very light film on marine grease to this contact point between the two.

On the K1300s you also remove the whole shaft and check splines both ends, and there’s an oil bleed valve on the rear.

Just watched the video and found it helpful until hearing you say to torque the rear wheel bolts too 105 Nm , I think this setting is far too tight ,as in the owners manual it states when refitting the rear wheel tighten the bolts to the setting of 60 Nm.
Your owners manual lists specs for the bolts?
Or do you have a workshop manual?
Actually it sounded high to me also. I own a K1300s and my rear wheel is tight at 60nm. I've double checked with my manual and it's confirmed at 60nm
What about greasing the front of the drive shaft???
The only issue is that you did not inspect the U-Joint for play. If you go that far, you should pull the shaft, lube the other end and inspect the u-joint for pay.
Hi, I just purchased a K1200R. It did not come with the center stand. How can I take the rear tire out? Thanks
Do the same as I had to when I brought my k1200r without a centre stand, buy one and fit it before attempting to do any work on the final drive..
I’m gonna try replacing the final drive oil by vacuuming out the oil instead, any reason that shouldn’t work?
Just do it right... Takes literally 20 minutes. And you can lube your shaft couplings too....
Need to remove the rear caliper. Cover the rear disc with a clean shop rag. Need to measure out 185 ml of gear oil becasue all of it will not make it into the rear drive unit. Some of it will remain in the measuring unit and fill hose. You did not put enough into the unit.
Did this bike have ABS? I heard you need to remove the abs sensor?
If you use the ABS sensor to refill the drive unit yes. Like I commented, you need to pull off the rear caliper so as to not contaminate it and the brake pads as he did in this video. Also place a shop rag over the disc to prevent spillage onto the disc. One more comment is that he did not actually fill it with 180 ml of lube. He spilled some and the measuring container and fill tube will absorb some of the lube, so you need to measure out about 185 ml of lube so all 180 ml makes it into the rear unit.
ABS contact out and clean it. Refill in ABS hole. Watch out fore the small oring. I use Omega 690 GL-7 oil with good experience 180ml
