Athens is world renowned for its ancient democracy, however with its defeat at the end of the Peloponnesian War this ancestral constitution is threatened with tyranny. But how did Athens lose the war? In this video we'll explore the chaotic times of stasis between oligarchy and democracy that eventually led to their perilous position in 404 BCE.

Great piece of the Peloponnesian War to cover! And very well told in the time that you did. Imagine, an HBO series on the Peloponnesian War. How incredible could that potentially be! Long live Thrasybulus!!

I see that you almost directly quoted the ancient sources on the terms given to the athenians by the spartans and Corinthians, i can tell because i had to learn to translate them by heart

Man your videos are really good and packed full of interesting information. Most of your art and animation is great. Your close up maps are really strong but the larger area one's are slightly confusing.
You have the lands edge marked and the various colours to indicate who's who etc but the mountains that aren't clear and look a bit like funny blobs of colour under the main map makes seeing which area is which and separating what's land and what isn't confusing. Look at 9:53 for an example. I'm sure on a big enough screen they're fine but on a phone as I was using it got difficult at times to know what was the edge of the islands and what was signifying which city had dominance or not.

Please consider making a video on prevailing myths, legends, and fables about Alexander the Great? Not to debunk or confirm them, but just a video filled with stories for a good popcorn session.

So odd to me that not only did both sides either attempt to or actually receive Persian aid but they fought mostly on opposite side of the Aegean.
Why did more of the conflict not take place in Greece? And why did the league and sparta or Athens not march on each others city states but fought what might essentially for many of the battles be a proxy war of sorts. It seemed more a persian proxy war than anything, the objectives don’t make sense.
Then again I’m not in ancient greece with first hand knowledge of what occurred.

Im not even going to watch this becauae i dont have time but id like everyone who views this to consider the possibility that it was actually the democracy that killed Athens and that any strength and vitality it had came from the times when it was a monarchy and aristocracy.

"Either demolish the walls or welcome oligarchy."
"Okay I guess we will beat around the bush and eventually welcome oligarchy."
"Okay now you are an oligarchy, and we are demolishing those walls."
    "Huh?"
